They Live.

I watched a movie the other day called "They Live", starring Rowdy Roddy Piper. It has attained a bit of a cult status through the years. I have seen it before, but, this time it seemed different, in an appropriate way, given the recent election and the dangerous direction this country has taken.

The premise of the movie is as follows (Forgive me, I am not a good movie reviewer):

Aliens have secretly been living among us. So much so, they have taken over the world government, including the US, but no one knows. They all look like humans due to a device that controls our senses, so that we see them as humans.

Rowdy goes on a crusade against them. He finds special glasses, obtained from a rebel group aware of the alien dominance, which allow him to see things as they really are. Subliminal messages abound throughout society: billboards, magazines, newspapers, money, all have hidden messages in them, as a means of controlling the thought processes of the human population.

The controlling mechanism is a device which broadcasts a signal through television. There is only one channel, which serves as a distributor of the signal and acts as a propaganda tool for the aliens, urging us to "trust your leaders", and that it's going to be a "new day for America".

Anyway, Roddy saves the day, destroying the device, allowing people to see who is really in control of things.

It's a goofy movie, 2 stars at best, but, surprisingly, I found myself drawing some simple comparisons to the current situation with our country.

With the Democrats in control, it is as if aliens have taken over. They are successfully enacting a perverted way of controlling us, wanting us to rely solely on the government for our needs.

We really don't know what is going on. Behind the scenes, people who have had long time visions of socialism have been planning this kind of takeover for years, waiting for the right moment to implement their plans.

They desire for us to be submissive to the government, making it easier for them to control our decisions, taking away our innovative spirit, our individual dreams, and will to work for what we want.

It may take a political crusade on our part to undo what is being done in this short period of time. It is not, however, something that can be done by one person.

We better wake up. Put on our glasses and and realize what the hell is going on in this country.

'Cause, you know, They Live.

(I really just wrote this so I could talk about this movie and insert a couple of funny clips. The first one has to be one of the greatest lines ever spoken on film, ad-libbed by Roddy himself. The second is one of the best, funniest hand to hand fight scenes I've seen. It's a little long, but it's worth it. If you've ever seen this movie, let us know in the comments section. I can't be the only one here who has watched this flick.)

John:

Definitely a classic movie. You are correct in the parellels it draws, but on society as a whole. The scene where he sees money, and the message is "This is your God", the various subliminal messages you can read while wearing the glasses people can actually relate to.

Unfortunately though, there are those who will never put those glasses on or,and sorry for adding a spoiler, those who would betray us in a heartbeat.

The other message that should not be forgotten is that while you may be subjugated, the 2nd amendment allows you to fight for your freedom.

What happened to John Carpenter? This movie was so great and his ones of late have been beyond lousy. I love the fight scene in the ally to where Roddy tries to have his friend put on the glasses. Must have been 10 or 15 minute!

That view was helped along by John Carpenter who said he wrote the movie to be an attack on the Reagan Administration.

Thanks Eric, I can't recall reading that. That was the decade when I stopped being a fan of the movie industry. I stopped regular television watching the decade after that. The hate filled left deserves no respect, and it's hard to find haters who hates more eloquently than the haters in Hollywood.

Seen that movie several times. Nearly as fun as The Omega Man - or something like that. Will Smith did a version of that not too long ago. Sorry I can't remember the name.

Longest fight scene ever. A clever movie, though, and it resonates years later as the dominant media turn into propaganda mouthpieces for the left.

I like how Roddy truly "wakes up" to the evil in the world as he gazes around with the sunglasses on. I have hopes lots of Americans are going to do the same thing here in the next six months.

Umm, hello! This post is about Shawn, unaware of the movie's history, equating the alien takeover to Democrats! So according to tyree, we can now say:

"Hatred of Democrats has ever been a fixture of the looney side of the right wing. The hate filled right deserves no respect, and it's hard to find haters who hates more eloquently than the haters in Wizbang."

It's fun when you guys stumble over your own feet.

Yep, my husband and I watched because we were waiting for "Taking Chance" to come on Showtime, so we had some time to kill. It was hard to turn away. The movies have come a long way in the special effects area since then, but we hated to turn the channel when it was time to leave. Those were much simpler times then we live in today. PS: "Taking Chance" was amazing.

The problem with liberals is they forget that Republicans know the right wing better than they do. I've been part of the right wing since I was a child, and I would have left a long time ago if they were as full of hatred as the Bushitler crowd.

My father left the Democratic party in part because of their support for "Jim Crow" segregation. The left was against civil rights before they were for it. Way to go Democrats, it only took you a hundred years or so. Now if we could just get the left to stop hating Catholics and Jews.
