Can they please shut up about Bobby Jindal now??

The idiotic left is trying to attack Bobby Jindal over Hurricane Katrina. What they're angry about is this statement from Governor Jindal, back when he was Congressman Jindal:

During Katrina, I visited Sheriff Harry Lee, a Democrat and a good friend of mine. When I walked into his makeshift office I'd never seen him so angry. He was yelling into the phone: 'Well, I'm the Sheriff and if you don't like it you can come and arrest me!' I asked him: 'Sheriff, what's got you so mad?' He told me that he had put out a call for volunteers to come with their boats to rescue people who were trapped on their rooftops by the floodwaters.

The boats were all lined up ready to go -- when some bureaucrat showed up and told them they couldn't go out on the water unless they had proof of insurance and registration. I told him, 'Sheriff, that's ridiculous.' And before I knew it, he was yelling into the phone: 'Congressman Jindal is here, and he says you can come and arrest him too!' Harry just told the boaters to ignore the bureaucrats and start rescuing people.

There is a lesson in this experience: The strength of America is not found in our government. It is found in the compassionate hearts and enterprising spirit of our citizens.

Of course, the liberals are hopping mad about this, led by that bastion of liberal wisdom, Keith Olbermann. Olbermann personally picked up the attack, claiming Jindal was 75 miles away in Baton Rouge and only viewed New Orleans by air:

Oh, but wait, Bobby Jindal wasn't lying.

Whoops.

But then again, since when have liberals ever bothered with getting the facts right? Not only does Jindal have the truth on his side, there's video evidence to prove it:

Not to mention yet another Jefferson Parish Sheriff is backing up Jindal's story:

During Hurricane Katrina, I and former Sheriff Harry Lee were with (then Congressman) Bobby Jindal more than anybody else from the federal government. He didn't wait for cameras or permission -- he was boots on the ground, and anyone that disputes that obviously wasn't in Louisiana. -- Jefferson Parish Sheriff Newell Normand, Democrat

Oh, and wait, there's yet another eyewitness to the FACT that Bobby Jindal was indeed in New Orleans during the Katrina ordeal:

Col. John Fortunato, spokesman for the Sheriff's Office, said Jindal appeared at the sheriff's offices on the east and west banks several times in the days after the storm. The boat rescue holdup by federal response officials did occur initially as citizens brought their watercraft to a staging area in Jefferson Parish, he said. But the problem was resolved and the great majority of boats were deployed to the flooded areas of New Orleans later that day.

Teepell, who after the storm drove with Jindal to visit various sheriffs' offices in his district, said he recalled being in Lee's office in west Jefferson on several occasions in the days after the storm. Teepell said he remembers the phone conversation but did not know who was talking to Lee.

Lee was recounting the boat rescue story to the caller on the line, Teepell said. The phone call was not taking place while the boats were attempting the rescue operation, but some days afterward, Teepell said.

Even one of the Kossacks jumped in to defend him (and of course, was quickly shouted down by the rest of the Krazy Kos Kids).

I'm from New Orleans and Jefferson Parish, I've lived one of the worst nightmares in the country's history, fighting with Repubicans to get aid to our area, fighting the right wingers who hate government, fighting to save my home, my business, and the homes and businesses of my friends and family. That's what I've been doing, as well as staying active politically, chronicling the worst catastrophe, one caused by the Federal government, including trying to set the record straight.

If a politician did good during that time, including Nagin, who called out Bush for his failures (while no one else did), so be it. Jindal did good, call the St. Bernard Sheriff's office, they were left on roof tops without water, without food for days, Jindal got it for them. Not Vitter!

1600 people died, friends committed suicide, this is a local issue, defending that Jindal did the right thing.

I never voted for him, I will never vote for him, because he's a Republican who supports the likes of Bush, and the former governer Foster who cut medical care for the poor.

What else can I tell you? Life's been hell since August 2005 and I'm doing the best I can. We all are. But thanks for questioning my motives. Appreciated.

I think we've established what the facts are. Jindal was indeed in New Orleans, on the ground, helping out during Katrina. But the facts aren't good enough for the liberals, are they? He COULDN'T have been there!!!!

But hey, maybe Rudy Giuliani wasn't really in New York for 9-11, either. These lefties should get some of their crack investigators on that one.

Oh, but wait! Jindal must not have actually done what he said he did because he never gave press conferences about it at the time!! So it CAN'T be true!

While the concept of a politician doing something solely for the opportunity of bragging about it to the country to make themselves look good obviously is one that happens quite often, we aren't talking about President Obama right now. We're talking about Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal, and it apparently never occured to these liberal McCarthys that perhaps he did what he did during Katrina just because it needed to be done -- and not for the publicity. A novel concept in the world of politics, I know, especially for liberals, who only do good deeds for the sole purpose of making themselves look and feel noble and charitable.

This story, I think, just goes to show that liberals really should try to stick to their niche: attacking opponents using inflammatory rhetoric and emotion. Trying to debate using the facts is just something they can't seem to get the hang of.

The liberals icon "Schoolbus" Nagin just sat and scratched his balls while Jindal was out doing what Nagin should have been doing in the first place. Nagin should have been voted out of office in the last election. Now that Jindal is a national player on the Republican side, the libs are going to be trashing him until he is voted out of office or they find something dirty on him.

FACT CHECK:Jindal ... (Below threshold)
Stew:

FACT CHECK:

Jindal admitted he made up key parts of the story:

Jindal had described being in the office of Sheriff Harry Lee "during Katrina," and hearing him yelling into the phone at a government bureaucrat who was refusing to let him send volunteer boats out to rescue stranded storm victims, because they didn't have the necessary permits. Jindal said he told Lee, "that's ridiculous," prompting Lee to tell the bureaucrat that the rescue effort would go ahead and he or she could arrest both Lee and Jindal.

But now, a Jindal spokeswoman has admitted to Politico that in reality, Jindal overheard Lee talking about the episode to someone else by phone "days later." The spokeswoman said she thought Lee, who died in 2007, was being interviewed about the incident at the time.

This is no minor difference. Jindal's presence in Lee's office during the crisis itself was a key element of the story's intended appeal, putting him at the center of the action during the maelstrom. Just as important, Jindal implied that his support for the sheriff helped ensure the rescue went ahead. But it turns out Jindal wasn't there at the key moment, and played no role in making the rescue happen.

There's a larger point here, though. The central anecdote of the GOP's prime-time response to President Obama's speech, intended to illustrate the threat of excessive government regulation, turns out to have been made up.

Uh Justice58, I think that you have things mixed up a bit here. It was not the slow response from the Bush Administration that was slow. It was the State Government and the City of New Orleans that was slow to respond and then outright refusal to do so. Bush offered to send money and supplies to the area a week before Katrina ever hit New Orleans. The Governor and Mayor Nagin both rejected this offer. It was not Bush that kept all of those school buses parked and let them get flooded out. Nope the whole New Orleans debacle can be laid squarely at the feet of those two

The hero of Chappaquiddick perfected the process in the Bork hearings and every prominent Democrat, along with the lapdog media, uses it exclusively as debate. Jindal is not "one of ours", so facts don't matter. The left, through their twin subsidiaries, the Democratic Party and the lapdog media, have no other method of discussion. They will never change. They have nothing else to offer.

JC Hammer:

The young governor is still too green for the national stage. I just find it odd that the GOP seems to have as its savior a guy who has been in Congress for three years and governor for one year. The same criticism that was leveled against Obama for being untested could easily be leveled against Jindal. The point is mental stability and Jindal is a nut job so he fits right in with Rush the Magic Blowhard and Sarah the Stupid Palin. Good luck with that!

Who needs Jindal? I can give the GOP response myself: "Whatever Obama just said, we are against it, we will do everything in our limited power to stop it, and any one from our party who assists with it in any way, shape or form will be excommunicated from the party, so help us god" There, Jindal's job is done.

Bobby, Bobby, Bobby... Get used to it. Your party is the party of economic stupidity and governmental waste. Small government and Big Government do not matter. It's GOOD government that matters. He is just more of the same from the religious right wing of the Republican Party. He also mentions borrowing from our children for the stimulus package, but seems to forget the fact that Bush did just that by borrowing billions for an unjust "war" in Iraq, not to mention the Wall Street bailout. At least the stimulus, which is aimed at creating jobs and building infrastructure, includes important investments in our future, which will offset the initial costs of the package. I'd say Jindal is narrow-minded, something we really don't need right now!!!
