Rush Limbaugh at CPAC 2009

Rush was the keynote speaker at CPAC yesterday and gave a speech that was nothing short of brilliant. He spoke without a teleprompter and sprinkled his prepared remarks with humorous stories without wandering away from his main point, which was that conservative principles are best for America:

Now, seriously, for those of you watching on C-SPAN as well, and on Fox, I want to tell you who we all are in this room. I want to tell you who conservatives are. We conservatives have not done a good enough job of just laying out basically who we are because we make the mistake of assuming people know. What they know is largely incorrect based on the way we are portrayed in pop culture, in the Drive-By Media, by the Democrat Party.

Let me tell you who we conservatives are: We love people. When we look out over the United States of America, when we are anywhere, when we see a group of people, such as this or anywhere, we see Americans. We see human beings. We don't see groups. We don't see victims. We don't see people we want to exploit. What we see -- what we see is potential. We do not look out across the country and see the average American, the person that makes this country work. We do not see that person with contempt. We don't think that person doesn't have what it takes. We believe that person can be the best he or she wants to be if certain things are just removed from their path like onerous taxes, regulations and too much government.

I still haven't seen the video but I listened live on Fox's XM station. Both Fox and CNN broadcast his speech in its entirety without any breaks or cut-aways. That was remarkable if you ask me. Rush posted his entire speech in two parts, making it much more enjoyable to watch than the 10 or 11 parts that are floating around YouTube.

Part One

Part Two

Read the transcript at Rush's site.

Added: Keep an eye on the comments. We know when a conservative like Rush has a liberal scared. It's obvious to us when that liberal is reduced to acting like a carnival barker trying to distract people from that conservative and his message. Why? When people hear what conservatism is, they recognize it. They recognize it because it is what they truly believe but have never heard expressed in a way that was so compelling.

I dunno. I checked in as the kids were giggling at the party elephant. Rush might as well have been performing a one-man Rocky Horror Picture Show. There was no resonance. It was all: Rushbo, wearing a "thinning" black ensemble, imitating himself, dodging verbal peanuts here and there, wires in his head. Perhaps I missed the good part, conservatively speaking.

A few days ago, conservatives were positive our country was headed into the crapper because of Obama's economic policies. Now, they "don't know"? Why don't they know? I thought everything they were saying about the results of Obama's plans were bad things, and now, what, they think it's possible it just might work? It might work, but they hope it doesn't? Well, if it might work, then what possible reason could they have to hope it doesn't work?

The GOP is stuck now with the fact that they have to blame the last 8 years on either a) bad governing philosophy, or b) poor adherence to it. Are they wrong, or were they hypocrites? If Obama does well, GOP is seen as inherently wrong and can't recover as easily. But if he does poorly, Conservationism itself can be vindicated while most Bush and some other individual GOP politicians can take the blame.

America needs good schools; our education standard all the way to college is way behind other countries. We have an infant mortality rate like a third world country.
So, your republican policies haven't done much, now have they? But I totally get, a republican's mindset, all for me and to heck with my neighbor.

Now, when we try to point out that the conservative policies of the past eight years are what led us into this mess, they quickly shoot back that Bush wasn't "conservative". (Then why did they all vote for him?) They are convinced, without any evidence that conservative policies will work better. They "hope" that what they are calling "Socialist" policies don't work, but they claim that conservative policies have never really been implemented in this country. So how can they be so sure that their policies will work?

Kim, you say Rush Limbaugh ... (Below threshold)
Dave:

Kim, you say Rush Limbaugh scares no one? Then why has he been mentioned by name by Obama, and Bill Clinton, Harry Reid, et al? Why is Bill Maher working so hard to become like Rush? You people can huff and puff all you like, but deep down you know Rush is the fly in the ointment, the monkey in the wrench. Rush represents something that you all cannot tolerate- an intelligent, conservative force who you cannot shriek into silence. And Rush's ideas and philosophy are gaining ground every day. You people on the left spent every day of the last 8 years screaming invectives at George Bush, and undermining him every chance you got; it sucks when the shoes on the other foot, doesnt it?

If ONLY they would listen to a true conservative who is THE best at articulating what conservatism is, there might be a chance.

And those libtards harping on Rush's physical appearance, age and former drug use and other "substantive" criticisms....He may be fat, he may be older than 30, and he may have been addicted to oxycontin, but I reckon he is more successful, more respected, and more effective on this planet than the losers who criticize him at this blog.

Also, there is audience coughing and burping on the 11 part soundtrack. I'll admit that my dog kept barking at the teevee screen, thinking a pink rabbit got in there somehow, but I listened through.
A highlight was when Rush had to invent theoretical children for himself in order to force home some "family values" point or another. He actually seemed embarrassed when "mom" slipped out at first, so he conjured up virtual kids. I don't know why. Oh, right! The syllabus of politically correct imitation virtue requires that idealized children (their's, of course) be offered up as reason not to slap the parents in the face, or as handy talismans to the gods of shoulda-coulda-woulda.

"You will see alot of the liberals 3 D's. Demean, defame and dismiss. That is there only play book. They do not argue the points, because they will lose. ww"

I address Rush's shortcomings from the Right. It was Rush who deemed opponents of NAFTA, GATT, and the WTO as "kooks", "crazies", "wackos", and members of the "black helicopter" set. Meanwhile, "liberals" should be "kept around as handy opposition". "We NEED liberals", Rush said many a time.

I'm sure you will recall, as a dittohead, that whenever the political kitchen gets uncomfortable, or when concrete steps (by Rush's own estimation) are called for, Rush pleads the "entertainer" card, ie. "I'm just an entertainer!", i.e "Shag Off, you gullible wankers".

So does CPAC hire Rush as an MC/comic? No. They give him the "keynote" spot and then shift that spot from 1st to last so the conventioneers don't get bored and leave early.

Conclusion: Rush symbolizes, in his corpulent form, the modern strain of easy chair "conservatism" which runs interference for the modern corporate-socialist state that the USA has unfortunately become. It's all stagecraft to mask interparty collaboration. Obama couldn't BUY the sympathy that draft-dodging old "patriots" like Rush, Boehner, etc. bring him.

johnnyoutpost:

Lots of people are blinded by Rush Limbaugh. Even when he's right, his arguments depend almost exclusively on one-sidedness; he is often so dismissive he's left with no credibility. He's one of those commentators who believes that he always knows the other's point of view, but often he doesn't...and doesn't care - that's why his whole shtick is bunk.

Glenn Beck on the other hand is not intentionally abrasive, and Beck is way more skilled at making reasoned arguments. I like Mr. Beck because he comes across more human and understanding than hyperbolic bubble heads such as Limbaugh, O'Reilly, and Coulter.

And locally, here in Baltimore, there is a fantastic conservative talk show host named Ron Smith. Smith, through his ability to build arguments in a sane, non-antagonistic manner, has converted many once-liberals like me. He speaks to all human-to-human without dismissing them with generalizations. Limbaugh does not poses Smith's intellect, nor his conservative reasoning ability, which is sad because Rush reaches so many markets...Limbaugh is the freakin Britney Spears of conservative talk shows...he's always around and in the news, but when you look closely, you understand that the talent is suspect and the overexposure is a complete mystery.

I'm proud to be a conservative American, but make no mistake, Rush Limbaugh has never spoken for me. Mr. Steele was right on in calling out Rush the other day; he and other working conservatives should grow a pair and stop kissing Limbaugh's considerable butt...its embarrassing.
