White House fires back at Rush Limbaugh
White House press secretary Robert Gibbs, who last month blasted CNBC host Rick Santelli from the podium in the briefing room, challenged reporters on Monday to ask Republicans if they agree with Limbaugh's desire.

"Do they want to see the president's economic agenda fail? You know, I bet there are a number of guests on television throughout the day and maybe into tomorrow who could let America know whether they agree with what Rush Limbaugh said this weekend." - Apparently the White House believes Rush is like those who, while openly rooting for US failure in Iraq because they opposed Bush's Iraq War, claimed to have their patriotism questioned...except Rush opposing Obama's quasi-socialism doesn't require the death of US troops at the hands of jihadis and Rush is actually being called out publicly by an apparently very insecure holder of the most powerful office in the world.

Obama 'ready to drop shield plans for Russian help on Iran'
MOSCOW, March 2 (RIA Novosti) - Washington has told Moscow that Russian help in resolving Iran's nuclear program would make its missile shield plans for Europe unnecessary, a Russian daily said on Monday, citing White House sources.

U.S. President Barack Obama made the proposal on Iran in a letter to his Russian counterpart, Dmitry Medvedev, Kommersant said, referring to unidentified U.S. officials. - Well, there's lightyears of difference between "We'll drop the shield if you help with Iran" and "If we eliminate the threat at the source the shield would not be needed."...No doubt the Ruskies will be quite happy to play nice while we kowtow and keep US attention focused elsewhere. Lord help us if they don't because it's not like the US could amass sufficient battle-tested military forces near Iran to stop them unilaterally.

Out With A Shiver: Global Warming Protest Frozen Out by Massive Snowfall
Global warming activists stormed Washington Monday for what was billed as the nation's largest act of civil disobedience to fight climate change -- only to see the nation's capital virtually shut down by a major winter storm.

Schools and businesses were shuttered, lawmakers cancelled numerous appearances and the city came to a virtual standstill as Washington was blasted with its heaviest snowfall of the winter. - Before the first Congressional hearing on global warming one balmy DC day back in 1994, they turned off the air conditioning and opened the windows to let in the summer heat. Much brow mopping of sweat ensued...Mother Nature sure has a quirky sense of humor. If only there were some vernacular that captured the irony of record-setting blizzards paralyzing cities concurrent climate change conventions.

Obama sees 'tougher times' for African-Americans
The new administration had done "more in these past 30 days to bring about progressive change than we have in the past many years," the president said in prepared remarks, pointing to his 787-billion-dollar economic stimulus plan to revive the battered US economy.

Obama also highlighted his audacious 3.55-trillion-dollar budget plan for 2010, which bristles with economic reforms and spending on healthcare, climate change and education in a bid to end America's worst economic crisis since the 1930s. - Nothing says things are tough all over like upping spending by $2 trillion a year. Tougher times for Americans just about covers it...has Obama's "worst economic crisis since the 1930s" slogan become common wisdom in the press or are they editorializing?

Guard to pull out of New Orleans after 3 1/2 years
The National Guardsmen were welcomed as liberators when they arrived in force in a big convoy more than four days after Katrina struck New Orleans in August 2005 and plunged the city into anarchy. The force was eventually 15,000 strong.

Their numbers dwindled as civil authority returned in the months after the storm. But then, after a surge of bloodshed, 360 troops were dispatched in June 2006 to help the depleted police department patrol the streets. In recent months, only a few dozen troops were still patrolling. - On the plus side, New Orleans doesn't sit equidistant to Iran and Syria...and if it works in New Orleans maybe it can work in Baghdad. We shall see.

Obama kicks up White House entertaining
The flurry of entertaining is in keeping with the Obamas' promise to make the White House a more open place for everyone.

The governors' dinner was "a great kickoff of what we hope will be an atmosphere here in the White House that is welcoming and that reminds everybody that this is the people's house," Obama told the state chief executives after they had dined on Maryland crab, Wagyu beef, Nantucket scallops and citrus salad.

"We are just temporary occupants. This is a place that belongs to the American people and we want to make sure that everybody understands it's open," he said. - Is he planning to open a drive-thru? A Wagyu cheese steak sounds pretty tasty..."The White House is open for business" sounds about right coming from an Illinois politician.

So we drop missile defense,... (Below threshold)
JLawson:

So we drop missile defense, designed to stop the random stretch SCUD-equivalent from Iran, for Russia's help in dealing with Iran...

What does Russia get from the deal, aside from the ability to nuke Europe? ("Oopsie, Comrades! Don't know the button was live! Sorry about Paris!")

And is it just me, or does Obama seem pretty thin-skinned? I don't recall Bush blasting pundits on a regular basis...

I don't recall Bush blasting pundits on a regular basis...

If fact, it seemed Bush reserved his biggest attacks for members on his side; Harriet Miers opponents, conservatives against amnesty, etc. It would have been nice to see Bush respond against the vicious attacks from the Left at some point during his terms.

Ron Kirk was nominated as a U.S. Trade Representative and owes $10,000 in taxes.

Yes, Obama sure can pick em! They don't pay taxes, he wants them to help shape policy we have to abide by, and yet he wants to raise taxes! What an asshole...
