The Real Obama Doesn't Measure Up to the Promise

I agree with Mark Tapscott:

But the magnetism of his historic moment began fading once the economic stimulus, the omnibus and the budget were on the table. As people focused more on the details and how they didn't square with what they thought he had promised during the campaign, the soaring rhetoric lost much of its power. It may even now be approaching a net negative because it throws so much more light on the inaequacies of the policies.

And so the ground has shifted and the essential narrative is changing. Before, supporting Obama was an act of personal and national affirmation made all the more pleasant and attractive by the seeming reasonableness of his policy proposals and the winsomeness of his public personality . He succeeded admirably in making himself a comfortable and reassuring choice, thus making it not merely "safe" to vote for him, but positively compelling.

Now, though, the mask is off and the disconnect between rhetoric and reality is emerging as the dominant driver of the Obama narrative. The contrast is no longer between the young, personable, historic candidate Obama and a creaky, cranky old Republican White Guy, it's between what America thought it was getting in a President Obama (cool, reasonable and beyond partisanship) and what it now sees as the reality of a President Obama (government spending out of control, an uncertain hand on foreign policy, broken promises, more bureaucrats, etc. etc.).

Although I am sure Team Obama is not happy that things are going so poorly so quickly, I think it may be a good thing for them in the long run in some ways. The worse things look now, the better things will look with even the smallest hint of improvement. Also, there is time for Obama to learn some lessons and change course. Bill Clinton paid for his lurch to the left in 1994 when Republicans retook Congress. As a result, Clinton turned to more moderate policies and easily won re-election in 1996. I expect something similar will happen with Obama -- that is, if he is not too arrogant to admit his mistakes and not too married to his liberal ideology to make changes. If Republicans are smart they will be able to take advantage of these early mistakes in their 2010 congressional races, but I am not convinced they will all of a sudden get smart and use the ammunition they have been given in an effective way. I am hopeful they will, but will have to wait and see.

He's actually less popular than George W. Bush was at this point of his presidency, and W. had just come through a heavily contested and bitter election. And Obama's numbers keep slipping, much like the stock market every time he speaks.

This is bad news for Obama. All of his programs and policies have polled terribly, he's running on good feelings from the election alone at this point, and those will run out rapidly. He is already losing the support of those who went to bat for him last year, his continual missteps with appointments make him look like (or reveal him to be) utterly incompetent, and his thoroughly-beclowned press secretary has succeeded only in making Obama's administration look entirely unprofessional and incapable of leadership.

There is almost nothing in his history that leads me to think he's got any sort of introspective capability, or an ability to admit when he's wro- wron- mistak- damn those rich people! If they'd just pay their fair share it'd all be unicorns and kittens!!1!

There's only one thing in his history that makes me think he could change course - that's when he abandonded the 'community organizer' gig because he could see he was making no difference. After that? Nothing.

Now he's having a hell of a time staffing his cabinet. People are backing out of appointments - others can't get staffs confirmed. His picks for the administration don't want to be associated with what's going on - and you've got to ask yourself just why it's so hard for him to get the people close to him to fill positions.

On January 2nd, 2009, it has been 50 years since Castro took power, and all of Castro's "promises" - such as Obama's - and "Social Engineering" has been but a catastrophic failure, that turned once multicultural Cuba - the haven of Polish Jews fleeing Nazism, and of many Cantonese Chinese fleeing Chairman Mao's "Paradise of the Proletariat" - once Spain's "Pearl of the Antilles," into nothing more than an impoverished country of uncouth blacks, mulattoes, and half-breeds...all so representative of Obama, Rev. Well, I love your pseudonym "Hyper." I know you chose the "nom de plume" because you fancy yourself a master of hyperbole. However, if you are one of those people that tears-up at the mere sight of Obama, experiences pseudo-religious orgasms at the sound of his voice, and or has fainted in a fit of ecstasy at the touch of his swarthy hands at one of his rallies, then "Hyper" could also be taken to stand for the abnormally heightened, maniacal, hystrionical, deluded, emotional state of mind of such out-of-control "Obamaloonies" as have so blatantly shown such pseudo-religious-psychosis and aberrant behavioral patterns at Obama rallies: "HYPER"... Now, which one is you? :)

Now, your Dutch-Irish-Jewish-Canadian (be more specific about your proud Canadian Heritage! Is it French, English, Scottish, Scandinavian, Iroquois, Mohegan...?) patchwork Heritage is impressive indeed, and something to be proud of. It certainly is more distinguished than that of Venezuelan "Heinz 57 Varieties Mongrel" dictator Hugo Chavez who has Dutch, Spanish, black, mulattoe, Caribe, Amazonian, and some even say "Howler Monkey" simian blood coursing through his veins! What can I say?

Personally, mine is far more boring and less colorful than yours since, even though I was born in Cuba, all of my grandparents, both on my Father's and my Mother's side, hail from Central and Northern Spain and are of Lower-German Visigoth ancestry (you know, those Caucasian, blonde, blue-eyed, "Goths of the West" that invaded Iberia in the 8th Century, four hundred years after the Fall of Rome?).

May I mention that Obama's Mom also had an ancestry as varied and as proud as yours...and then she had to go and screw it up (literally) and "procreate" Obama! Oh, well, at least famed Anthropologist Richard Leakey - discoverer of the fossils of our famed, African, Hominid, ancestor "Lucy" - would argue that it was an "evolutionary leap" that Obama, a hybrid of the "Black Civil Rights Welfare Pimps," has actually mastered language enough to be, to quote Bush: "articulate" (something the moron Bush is not), and able to speak "English" properly and not in "Ebonics"...certainly an evolutionary advance of Homo Negrus Americanus of incalculable proportions by any standard!!!

As to "TROGODOR," I looked it up but could not find it. But, if it stands for being rudely politically incorrect, and to speak one's mind without hindrance, then I take it for a compliment! Thank you!

I do want to apologize to our readers, though, for my "typos." Unfortunately my sight is waning (something I'm sure the "bleeding-heart" Obamamaniacs will cheer upon learning?), and since I never learned to type but use my two index fingers "like a flurry of pecking chickens" when I get really going on my keyboard, I often punch all sorts of wrong keys, LOL!...Unless I proof-read everything. And being passionate in my comments and expressions - as you may have noticed - sometimes I commit the unpardonable sin of hitting the "submit" button without first reading my comments with a "magnifying glass" and or run them through the spell-check to catch any of my wayward pasky fingers. I do apologize for that.

As to "Dogfish Head" beer, I have tried over 1500 different beers from all over the world throughout my life, but have not had the pleasure to trying that particular American brand out. Personally, though, I find most American beers to be bland and lacking in character (perhaps a mirror reflection of the tastes of said "American majority" responsible for electing Obama???) with a few notable exceptions. However, I'd love to try some, even from an Obamaloonie, and would drink it to his or her health...even though, being Althor, I run the risk of winding up poisoned in the end. LOL! :)

Cheers!

Althor :)
