Bill Maher is a waste of oxygen; smears our troops yet again

I don't know why Bill Maher still has a platform. Well, no, I take that back. I know why he does; it's because he's a liberal and he spews liberal shit out of his mouth on a regular basis, and the liberals at HBO love it. But he's sunk to yet another despicable low slandering our troops. It's not like it's the first time -- remember when he called our troops "cowards" right after 9-11?

Maher replied: "We have been the cowards. Lobbing cruise missiles from two thousand miles away. That's cowardly. Staying in the airplane when it hits the building. Say what you want about it. Not cowardly. You're right."

Of course, those comments were "misinterpreted". He wasn't called our pilots cowardly, it's just that us idiot hicks in Flyover Country are not sophisticated enough to understand it.

And perhaps that will explain his next little joke that had the members of his audience laughing. Maybe I'm just not enlightened enough to find it funny. Check out this video and see if you're laughing:

Are you laughing? Wasn't that just hilarious? Isn't sophisticated, enlightened liberal humor just great??

You know, I'd like for Bill Maher to go to, say, Camp Lejeune and say that. Maybe he could go to Norfolk. If you want to talk about someone who is a flaming coward, then look no further than the shitbag on HBO. In front of his adoring liberal audience who laughs at his libelous troop-smearing jokes, he's perfectly comfortable saying such vile things. He'd never have the courage to say something so disgusting to a soldier though, would he?

You can e-mail HBO here. Contact their Consumer Affairs office at 212-512-1208 between 9:00am and 5:00pm Eastern. Make your voices heard. It's unlikely that Bill Maher will get kicked off -- although hey, it couldn't hurt to try -- but maybe we can force the assclown to at least make a public apology. He owes much more than that, but I'll take what I can get.

By the way, make sure you're showing your support for our troops. Adopt a soldier from Soldiers Angels or a unit from Any Soldier.

On his point about troops and rape - completely and utterly despicable.

However, pulling all our troops out of Germany should be done. In fact a partial pullout was done by Bush/Rumsfeld, currently there's about 35k in Germany from what was about 70k in 2001.

All the EU based troops should be pulled as they have done nothing but allow EU countries the luxury of not spending enough for their own defense.

In effect their presence have aided/perpetuated the EU's steady and expensive decline into a nanny-state, and allowed NATO to be a shadow force that is incapable of honoring their commitments.

As a veteran I obviously take offense at what Maher says. And notice in the video that he does it for a cheap "gotcha" moment. What he fails to realize is that soldiers overseas already face a difficult time in the localities and among the citizenry because of a few idiots. But going on TV and blasting the entire group as rapists only shores up the opinion overseas that Americans are nothing but troublemakers. I'm not sure what Maher hoped to accomplish other than cheap ratings.

Anyone can bring themselves to do anything once, if they have to. One element of courage is going back and doing that same task over and over again, after you've learned what it's really like.

I saw the show and, for some reason I can't really understand, continue to visit this website from time to time. Did you actually watch the show or are you just doing your part in the inbred conservative echo chamber as one of Michelle Malkin's little acolytes?

I don't always agree with everything Maher says and once in a while he makes me a little uncomfortable, but I'm OK with that and I support his freedom to say it, unlike some/most of your fellow Wizbangers. Give him a call and send him some of your published work on this site; maybe he'll invite you on the show and you can personally "force the assclown to make a public apology".

It's easy to post your secondhand vitriol on a site populated by the 25 or less percent that thought we were on the right track with Bush, those who refuse to accept the fact the world has left them behind. Bill Maher has earned a serious forum, like it or not, and has the right to use it as he chooses. That's how it is where we live.

note to WorldCitizen...YOU are the enemy, of everything this country stands for, anyway. Read some American history. Pick a dictatorship and move there, you'll be much happier.

"It's easy to post your secondhand vitriol on a site populated by the 25 or less percent that thought we were on the right track with Bush,"

It's just as easy for you to post your commentary behind a pseudonym. So this site's population is comprised of the 25% who like Bush. No dissent. Everyone agrees. Have I got that right?

Is there or is there not an opportunity for you and many others to respond here? (And let's not pretend here that one is wrong simply by virtue of being part of a smaller percentage who believe something totally unrelated to the issue) Tell me, what opportunity do people have to respond to Bill Maher? Letters? Phone calls to recording machines?

So tell us, groucho, do you think what Maher said was "funny"? I don't. I think it was a callow remark. And I think you think so too. But to say so might give the appearance that you agree with some of us on something - and we can't have that, can we?

Bill Maher is just plan stupid. He confuses differences in technological ability with differences in courage. The terrorists fly plans into buildings because that's the only technology they have. The U.S. doesn't need to sacrifice pilots because we have the technology to strike any target from thousands of miles away. The test of courage comes in urban fighting where it's man on man combat. In such encounters terrorists flee from much smaller numbers of U.S troops and hid behind women and children when cornered. That leaves no doubt about who the cowards are nor about the stupidity of Bill Maher.

There is a difference between the 'right to free speech' and the 'abuse of free speech'. He has the right to say it. But HBO has the right to tell him to say it somewhere else.

You are right free speech is not the issue. I wasn't offended either, but I do find Bill Maher humorous, but not in the way he intends. What I find humorous is that such stupidity passes for "intellect" in liberal circles. See post #21 for an example.

Bill Maher is even more stupidly funny in his movie "religion". I like the part where he asks some guy who's talking about religion the question "what if you're wrong?" Well the obvious answer is that we'll never know because that means death is just oblivious non-existence. The counter question for Bill Maher is "what if you're wrong?" Well the obvious answer is that Bill will find out to his everlasting regret (Pascal's Wager). What Bill Maher doesn't grasp is that atheism is based on faith just like any other religion.

Who says there's a lack of evidence? An omnipotent "god" can frustrate any experiment you can devise if He doesn't want the intellectually proud to find Him. Atheism is the assertion that there is no "god" and such an assertion can only be based on faith. Therefore, Atheism is a religion just like any other. The null hypothesis is agnostic, not atheist.

I don't "assert" that there is no god. I do not believe in god.

I know what you're saying Mac, but it depends on redefining the word "faith." Obviously no one knows whether or not god exists, but belief requires faith, non-belief requires nothing. I don't believe because I have not been given any good reason to believe.

Agnostics are pussies and I have no use for them. I can at least respect a believer.

It's called logic

I don't "assert" that there is no god. I do no believe in god.

Whether you "assert" it or not your belief is based on the assertion that there is no god.

I know what you're saying Mac, but it depends on redefining the word "faith." Obviously no one knows whether or not god exists, but belief requires faith, non-belief requires nothing. I don't believe because I have not been given any good reason to believe.

I'm not redefining the word "faith" just showing you that what you believe is by faith and faith alone. By the proper use of intellect we discover that intellect can't answer the question does God exist or not. You belive that he does not. I belive that He does. I respect your faith and ask for the same.

Unlike you, people like Bill Maher think they know something that can't be known. Their position is not from a superior intellect, education, courage, or insight, but from human pride. Two thousand years ago the Apostle Paul wrote about such people and why God hides the greatest treasure from them, yet reveals it to anyone who will humble themselves.

You can call it lots of things. Logic is not one of them.

"I'm not redefining the word "faith"

Yeah, actually you are, but it's semantic anyway. Faith, with respect to the supernatural, is not two-sided. You either believe or you don't. In a very narrow sense you are correct. I don't profess to know that god doesn't exist, but I believe that to be true. But, unlike believers, my theory is falsifiable. Your belief in god is "faith" because it can never be disproven. So the two beliefs are not two sides of the same coin. They're two totally different coins.

Regardless, we are not going to solve this question here. I do appreciate the lack of invective.

You can call it lots of things. Logic is not one of them.

It's logical that an omnipotent God can thwart any experiment you can design to reveal him. The only question is one of will not ability.

Yeah, actually you are, but it's semantic anyway. Faith, with respect to the supernatural, is not two-sided. You either believe or you don't. In a very narrow sense you are correct. I don't profess to know that god doesn't exist, but I believe that to be true.

In the broadest sense anything you believe that is not knowable you believe by faith. To claim otherwise is to say you can know what you admitted you cannot know.

But, unlike believers, my theory is falsifiable.

No it isn't. To falsify your theory is to prove god exists. Darwin included the means to falsify his theory, which in two words is irreducible complexity. But as some evolutionists have pointed out, there's no means to prove something is irreducibly complex. Thus, evolution is not falsifiable and therefore it fails the test of being a scientific theory.

Your belief in god is "faith" because it can never be disproven.

My belief in God is a religion and not a science because it's not falsifiable. A belief in Evolution is also a religion because it's not falsifiable either. Does god exist or not is a single question that has two answers. Prove one and you disprove the other. The problem is that God can thwart any experiment humankind can design to answer the question.

Regardless, we are not going to solve this question here. I do appreciate the lack of invective.

My point is that the answer is unknowable in this age. All a person can do is pick one side or the other on the basis of faith. That understanding leads to humility in discussing such things, something Bill Maher lacks.
