She does not go into the issue of Edwards' paternity of Rielle Hunter's baby and the bizarre attempt to cover it up using a married campaign worker, but she does talk candidly about the revelation of the affair. The story is very sad, but Elizabeth Edwards is definitely a survivor.
After the former presidential hopeful confessed his betrayal, Elizabeth Edwards writes in her new book, "I cried and screamed, I went to the bathroom and threw up."...Edwards denied paternity, and his wife's book doesn't address that issue.
But it does highlight Elizabeth Edwards' anger and sorrow at being duped by a man whose four children she'd borne and whose political ambitions she'd passionately supported for so many years.
Hunter initially seduced Edwards using a worn come-on line, Elizabeth writes:
"You are so hot," Hunter told him outside a swank New York hotel. The campaign ultimately paid Hunter $114,000 to produce a batch of short films on his candidacy.
She lashes out at Hunter, now 45, whose name she never actually uses in the book, as a parasitic groupie who invaded the Edwardses' life.
Her own life may be tragic, she concludes, but Hunter's is "pathetic."
Even when Edwards confessed to his wife, he lied, claiming he had slipped up just once, Elizabeth writes. His original version of the story "left most of the truth out," she writes.

What a horrible situation. Sometimes I wish that things like this wouldn't be reported so widely, though. It's bad enough that he cheated on her, but to have the whole world involved makes things worse.
Yes, I realize that she is publishing a book about this now, but originally the situation was relatively secret until the NE reported about it. Sometimes people need to know about someone's private life because of character issues, but I think that we often go too far, like targeting Palin's daughter, Biden's daughter, etc. I wish people (myself included) would show more decency towards people instead of celebrating their sorrows.
There are very few things I like about Obama, but I remember when he told people to leave Palin's daughter alone, and I appreciated that. I wish that he also would have told people to leave Joe the plumber alone, though.

"left most of the truth out"
Possibly the best, most concise description of John Edwards I've read to date.
What's even more disturbing is that he was almost a heartbeat away from the Presidency.

I feel that probing into the character of one who seeks to be entrusted with great responsibility is entirely appropriate. In fact, it is "due diligence". Probing into that person's family, however, especially children, seems to be wrong, and what the Dems and their agents did with Palin's family was a disgrace.
On Obama, I would be more inclined to share the first poster's views if there was any credible evidence that he had actually called off the Dem dogs. That is, he appeared to say one thing while his acolytes (e.g., Axelrod) kept right on doing the opposite. I have a bit of personal experience with politicians saying one thing in private, and then posturing the opposite in public. I have learned by such bitter experiences to judge folk more by what they do then what they say.

Don't forget that Obama's hands aren't clean regarding the Illinois senate race in 2004 and Jack Ryan. Sure, it's nice he paid lip service to leaving Palin's daughter alone, but he didn't care a whit about Ryan's son (who was only 10 at the time as opposed to Bristol being what, 17, 18?).

Leave Joe the Plumber alone? Joe was no innocent bystander. He was very much a participant and was loving the money and attention he was getting, so no comparison to leaving someone's kids out of the mix. The only reason Bristol Palin was so in the news was due to her mother promoting abstinence as a means of birth control, which obviously didn't and doesn't work. Otherwise, Bristol would not have been an issue.

Oh, boo-hoo-hoo! Come, come, now. This is not rocket science or, in your case, psycho-analysis. It takes two to tango, Betsy baby! Where do you get off proclaiming your inocense? Perhaps you should reflect on yours and Johnny-Boy's sex/love life over the years? Get off the podium, please, and go about the business of getting the situation remedied. You might discover something that never occurred to you!
