Cheney v. Obama

Not even close to a fair fight. Too many good quotes in the Cheney speech to excerpt. Read it all - posted at Weekly Standard.

Mary Katharine tweeted the speeches.

Another TOTUS moment.

Update: The more Dick Cheney talks, the more people like him. He's starting from basement numbers, having been vilified for eight years, but what he is saying makes sense, especially in comparison to the current administration's flipping and flopping on issues of national security.

Obama has been in office for FOUR MONTHS! I think it will be nothing short of a miracle if we are not attacked before the end of his four year term. We will be lucky if we don't get hit before the end of the year. I am sure you are one of these misguided souls who feels that Clinton had NOTHING to do with 9/11 when the planning for that operation was mostly completed when he was still in office. The difference between Obama and Bush was that Bush chose to be an adult after 9/11 by getting on with the job and not point fingers of blame at Clinton. All Obama does is look backwards all the while claiming to be wanting to look forward instead. WE DID NOT GET ATTACKED after 9/11 and Obama has no credibility when he refuses to credit the Bush Administration for anything even as he keeps many of the core policies he ridicules in place. I just cannot take Obama seriously on national security. He has maligned Guantanamo for years and he STILL has no concrete plan as to what to do with the detainees! For soemthing that was so bad it astounds me that he cannot think of another plan that would be better. Obviously governing is much harder than campaigning - which is why he continues to campaign because he certainly has no clue on how to lead this nation. We are so screwed...

Dumb Obama quote:

"Nobody has ever escaped from one of our federal 'supermax' prisons, which hold hundreds of convicted terrorists."

Um, no, Anointed One, we have ONE "super-max" prison, and it holds several, not hundreds (hell, prison capacity is only 490) well-known terrorists: The Blind Sheik, Moussaoui, Ramsey Yousef and Mahmud Abouhalima, three of whom were involved in the 1993 WTC bombing. And that prison currently has a sign hanging out in front that reads, "No Vacancy".

Unless he plans on building one really quickly, where Mr. Genius In Chief plans to house the at least 50 Gitmo detainees who are a clear and present danger to the security of the United States when and if they are convicted in misguided "civil" trials (what a joke), is an absolute frikkin' mystery....

Sounds like malicious Murtha's wet dream, he proudly proclaimed he'd take them. Of course he has no facility to house them, that would be built after getting hundreds on millions to build one. ("a little bit for you, a little bit for me and mine")

What would the end result of housing gitmo jihadis-cut-throats in a super-max or any other U.S. prison?

A clue can be found in the story of the four that were arrested in the last 24 hours.

Three of the four wouldbe jihadis converted to Islam after recent stints in jail.

marc,

Spot on there with jihadist peddling influence former Gitmo detainees could possibly have in a less-than-supermax facility--probably even more so for the lower-level detainees who would have greater access to general prison populations.

I would hope the detainees would be segregated from general populations, but given the Obama Administration's penchant to make sure every one is happy and where they should be, I wouldn't put it past them to let a few into less secure facilities.

Nothing like a Cheney speech to bring out the hate.

Watching the speech, I couldn't help but notice the pure pride that Cheney seems to have for his part in torture.

Let's pretend for a second that I supported the idea of disappearing, torturing, and holding indefinitely anyone the President, any President, wishes. I would at least hope that PRIDE wasn't the adjective used to describe the actions. Sometimes we may have to dip into things we don't like, but do we have to be so damn proud of such vile acts?

To make a comparison this crowd should understand:

If a burglar breaks into your house and you have to shoot him in self-defense, should you feel pride in having killed a man? Should you go on TV talking all about how death is a wonderful solution to your problems? Should you gleefully make a case for more death?

Oh wait, maybe this is the wrong crowd to make that comparison after all.

We still have rules. And while I don't know what you wrote in your 4:44 comment that just you in trouble, you have not been trying to advance the discussion, you've been trying to be a smartass and a rude jerk.

Kind of like President O-boy, but that's for another place.

Whatever you said was over the line, and one of the editors devowelled your comment. That's kind of a warning shot, if you keep it up you can be deleted or in extreme cases banned.

So you have a choice, mister. You can whine like a little boy or you can make an effort to make your case w/o the venom. The first course will be futile, and end up with you getting known as a petty troll who can't make his case on the facts, or you can step back from the insults and sneering and make your point like an adult.

Your call, but choose wisely. Up to now you have not exactly shown wisdom or maturity, son.

And before you ask no, I did not devowel your comment. I just was passing by and caught the smell of juvenile piss and realized we have a newcomer from the Left.

I suspect if a jihadi were within reach of the general prison population they would get the same treatment as imprisoned police officers and pedophiles - SHANKED.

What I want to know is how well are the federal 'supermax' prisons designed to repel an armed attack from the outside that starts with a truck bomb blowing a big hole in the perimeter defenses? What about the warden and several guards having their homes invaded at night and their families held hostage while they are taken to the prison to facilitate a takeover. There's a difference between common criminals and terrorists who are part of a group willing to kill and be killed for their cause.

Along the same lines... how long would it be before the jihadis started crying because the treatment received in a state-side prison is much less "kindly" than what they had in gitmo?

And after the nutcakes from the ACLU intervened and got better treatment for them the remaining and "normal" prisoners all filed suit to get the same special treatment?

Actually, he's not like Adolf Hitler at all. Hitler psychotically murdered, tortured (the real "torture", the kind where you want to die) and conducted barbaric genetic experts on at least 7 million+ Jews because of some deep-seeded Mommy issues, plus he tried to spread his sick and twisted Third Reich to the rest of the world.

But you probably know all that, seeing as how you're so very adept at making relevant historical comparisons and all.

Obama once again resorted to a teleprompter campaign style speech without substance.
I am surprised how fast Americans have forgotten 9/11 and if they are being reminded they call it fear mongering and scare tacticts.
I am not a Republican but one should give credit where it's due , the Bush administration kept the country safe for 8 long years.
