Governor Sarah Palin to make an Announcement at 3pm Eastern

The Politico reports Governor Palin will make an announcement from her home in Wasilla, which some are speculating means that she will announce she won't run for reelection as governor. Who knows. Maybe the hateful, bigoted, and just plain insane accusations (Sullivan still insists Trig is not her baby) made about her and her family may have just become too much. I hope that's not the case because it would mean that the haters can succeed in driving out those they fear from public office.

Update: Mark Halperin offers 10 reasons why Governor Palin won't run for reelection as governor.

Here are some predictions from friends on Twitter:

The Anchoress thinks Palin will announce she is ill and won't run for reelection. She makes this prediction based upon the fact she has become quite thin lately.

Jim Geraghty says his wife thinks Palin will announce she and Todd are expecting again.

Update II: CNN reports that according to GOP sources Palin won't run for reelection. \

Update III: Palin says she can better affect positive change for Alaska and the country from outside the governor's office. In the video of her speech announcing she would not run for reelection she referenced all she did to help Alaska's energy production, but she also said she and her staff spent too much time and public money to fight the frivolous ethics complaints. It cost the state $2 million and her family $500,000 to as she said "set the record straight."

My gut tells me she will not run for president in 2012.

Update IV: Andrea Mitchell at MSNBC says sources tell her Palin is out of politics for good:

Some have speculated in the past that Palin may be interested in running for president in 2012, but she did not mention running for another office at her press conference. Sources told NBC's Andrea Mitchell that Palin is out of politics for good.

Update V: The Anchoress is sticking by her prediction that there's something else going on that she wants to keep secret, like maybe she or one of her kids is ill and has no interest in giving the leftist haters something else to rip apart with their fangs.

Update VI: Jim Geraghty touches on what has me upset and that is how Palin's kids were treated by sickos like Andrew Sullivan, David Letterman and others on the left who said such evil, nasty things that I have begun to accept that they have no souls but are the human equivalent of Orcs:

The lesson that the ruthless corners of the political world will take from the rise, fall, and departure of Sarah Palin that if you attack a politician's children nastily enough and relentlessly enough, you can get anybody to quit.

No, Peter. I fully expect that Palin wants to spend full time putting together a 2012 presidential run organization and her Alaska duties are taking too much of her time.

But I have to admit that she's so comical that she makes a real easy target for funny features over at Wizbang Blue. She really has a near zero chance of winning the 2012 GOP nomination, let alone the election. Palin hasn't yet caught on that she's like another Dan Quayle or Joe Biden.

Big money won't bankroll a candidate that silly like Palin. Few big corporations consider her their best bet for the White House. But more power to her to at least run for president if she really wants to. But a far more serious GOP candidate, likely a respected old guard figure, should probably arise as the standard bearer for the party in 2012(much like Nixon, Reagan, Dole or McCain once did).

What I learned from the lefts treatment of Palin (and Joe the Plumber) is that any candidate for anything the dems put forth, we conservatives have to immediately deminish, degame and dismiss them as quacks. Again, the left made the rules, we will comply.

For someone who started her political career going door to door with a red wagon and a baby to have found herself running for VP - can't fault that. So to hear her resign in such a flurry with her term ending so relatively shortly makes me wonder if there's not a health problem or personal scandal she's trying to get in front of.

I'm sick to death of all the hysterical negativity from the libs. If you hate her that much, it's the best recommendation I can think of. You'll accept any cock and bull story that Obama and the mainstream media dish out, which doesn't say much about your critical thinking skills. You buy into all that "Sarah Palin is stoopid" crap without ever defining why you think that. Neither can any other liberal I know. She's just...stupid, somehow. So it is written in the NY Times, so shall it be. If you don't question it, what's that make you? You'll fall for anything.

Putin calls Obama "uninformed" about Russia, just before his visit. That doesn't make the Golden Child sound very smart, does it? He's becoming a laughingstock in global affairs. In Russia, in Europe, in the middle east, in China, Korea, South America. The Great Apology Tour flat out didn't work. They consider him a naive freshman in word affairs. And I think they're right.

He's in the middle of an economic meltdown, and he wants to spend a couple more trillion on socialized health care, cap and trade, trillions in pork to his allies as a "stimulus", while unemployment is approaching 10%? How smart does that make him, anyway?

Not to be redundant, but screw you guys. Take your "Sarah Palin is the antichrist" over to Huffington, where people all think the same.

Unlike Obama, she actually has leadership experience. And she's survived every nasty story and innuendo the media and the entertainment business can throw at her. That tells you something in itself.

The attacks on her family, for one.
Also, she was running for VP not Prez, the election was over 8 months ago...and we're STILL hearing late night comedians take swipes at her family ever since then? Why don't we hear as much chatter about Obama's admitted cocaine use or Biden's daughter's cocaine problem? (Frankly, I'm glad we don't. But why only go after one side and not the other?)

I'm thinking Tim Pawlenty might be in the running. Pawlenty also thinks fast on his feet and doesn't need a teleprompter. He must have something going for him to have been elected to his second term in 2008 in the loon state that gave use the first Muslim congressman and now the first professional comedian senator.

Pawlenty also tricked the democratic controlled legislature into sending him all the spending bills before they passed a budget, which they never did during their regular session. Rather than call a special session, Pawlenty is using his executive powers to deallocate parts of the spending bills to balance the budget without raising taxes. That's the kind of fiscal conservatism and out of the box thinking the public will be chomping at the bit for by 2012.

Disingenuous as usual, Jake. Oddly enough, I'm going through the comments here and I see a wide variety of thought. I see them in every post. Now go to Kos or HuffPo or any number of those "other" blogs and tell them the same thing, then come back and let us know how long your comment lasted.

And if you're not getting a favorable response here from some people, Jake, remember you poisoned that well a while ago.

Governor, that is Ex-Governor-To-Be and Ex-Oil and Gas Commissioner-That-Was and Ex-Student-That-Was-Times 3 (0r was it 4?) seems to be a serial quitter. It brings to mind that famous ad from Hillary Clinton about the 3:00 a.m phone call. Do Americans want as their leader a person who cuts and runs on a whim?

I have to say that her rambling and sometimes incoherent announcement leads me to say Hell NO!

Kerry wasn't smeared, it was proven he imbelished his war record.

I don't think this matters at all. Obama has lost the independents already. You can run Quayle and beat him. ww

jmc,
Considering stocking cans on a grocery shelf
as loathsome is how you as a well educated man
look down your nose on such work?
It's honest, and it's a job that some one is
willing to do, so you can walk conveniently
through the store and take said same cans from
the shelves stocked by lowly stock boys.
How ironic.

Blew your cover there pal. All now know that you are way too full of self. I think there's a term for that. Hmmm, oh yeah, it's, NARCISSISTIC.

@71 A whole paragraph devoted to self-promotion is definitely straying from the topic when the commenter proclaims his greatness is the "real issue" here. And we better watch out, this is a "techie" we're dealing with who is also a self-proclaimed elitist.

Meanwhile, back at the actual topic, the msm coverage of Palin's resignation is late to the party while deals have already been made behind everyone's backs.

jmc: "I frankly wonder about cognative dissonance, when I read something like this DJ. I mean, Barack Obama, was accused of being a muslim, he is not. It was said he isn't a U.S. citizen, he is. It was said he "Pals around with terrorist" but somehow pointing out Palin pals around with gun toting guys who think seceding from the U.S. is patriotic, is an off limits attack.

You side accused Kerry's war heroism of being a fraud, Your side had no problem posing questions such as, ""Why is Chelsea Clinton so ugly? Because her father is Janet Reno." Yet it is "disgusting" that someone goes after Palin's family... And I'd actually agree. However, you seem willfilly blind to your own side."

Considering that I never made even one of those allegations but you tried to connect me anyway (and leaving aside the quesiton of whether your claims are truthful in context or fact - the big lie did not end with Hitler I see), I'd have to say you are well out of line, jmc. I try to answer every issue to the best of my ability and klnowledge, and I have more than once supported the right to strong opinions different from my own. That said sir, you really need to find a dictionary and look up the meaning of 'fascist' before tossing it around as blindly and casually as you do - but I must warn you now that once you realize how much of a fascist Obama really is, you will be very unhappy. I am more careful than you with what I claim about people, for instance I try to make sure I am not making false accusations, something your own comment here proves you don't worry about.

Wow jmc, did you put on your Kreskin hat to divine what you can't possibly know for fact?

How typical of some of you lefturds, you're shown to be utterly clueless and behind the news cycle with respect to what obama is actually doing and all you can do is lash out with guesswork and wild accusations.

Nitwit.

Ha ha ha - riiight. People say "I think something you don't like" and then people call them idiots. That's not a "bastion of free thought". Sorry.

I've commented on HP before and have been totally disappointed in the exact foolishness I see here, just with a Left rather than Right spin. I don't bother reading comments on either site anymore ... it's just not worth the time.

Oyster:

I'm just trying to get this straight. Jake isn't really concerned with whether or not Wizbang is a "bastion of independent thought". Because plainly there are many thoughts here in regard to any number of issues. And it can't be that Jake is concerned that those thoughts are regularly censored here because, well, we still see them and read them every day.

What Jake is concerned about is criticism.

The fact is, the criticism sometimes goes over the top and Jake has been just as guilty of that as anyone else. Somehow - and I'm saying this out of past experience - I don't think Jake's chagrin is over any of the lefties who pop in regularly to verbally abuse others because I've yet to see his ire directed toward any of them.

He says he sees the "exact foolishness" here that he sees in Kos and HuffPo and doesn't read the comments there anymore because of that. But he's still reading the comments here. I'm inclined to think it's not the "exact foolishness" at all.

AIM HIGH, DAUGHTERS!:

Recently saw a videotape of Sarah Palin at home, making dinner (or something) in the kitchen, talking with her youngest daugher, who looked about 7 or 8 years old. She asked "Piper, what do you want to be when you grow up?" The poor INDOCTRINATED young thing promptly PIPED: "A BABYSITTER"!!!!!

SAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAADDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD! Especially when you consider that she appears to be BABYSITTING LITTLE TRIG, BEFORE SHE'S EVEN HAD THE CHANCE TO GROW UP!!!!!!

REAL SAAAAAAAAAAAAAAADDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD!
