Democrats In Full Scale Panic

A full scale panic such as what is happening in the Democratic Caucus right now has not been seen since the Supreme Court ruled on the 2000 presidential election. The level of intra party violence pits Maxine Waters and Lynn Woolsey against other Democrats in what is beginning to look like the mother of all political mud wrestling contests. Or maybe it's a pig wrestling contest because the objects of all of this effort are a few Blue Dog Democrats, a sub caucus itself fraught with strife and disagreement. Today the Blue Dog negotiators split four to three on the question of extending a final vote on ObamaCare until September.

The Energy and Commerce Committee will resume its markup of healthcare legislation Wednesday afternoon under a deal between Blue Dogs and House leaders, but there will be no floor vote on the legislation before August.

White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel was in the negotiations speaking for President Obama.

"We cut the cost of the bill, delayed a floor vote and ensured that the public option will not be forced on anyone," said Rep. Mike Ross (D-Ark.) who has led the negotiations for the Blue Dogs. "Members will have time to go home to talk to their constituents and actually read the bill."

....The deal split the seven Blue Dogs who had been threatening to block the bill. Waxman struck the deal with only four.

There are several things to take away from today's developments. First, and most important, is that there is a serious effort underway to manage expectations on the outcome of ObamaCare. That the president's Chief of Staff, Rahm Emmanuel, was directly involved in negotiations that produced such a tepid result indicates that the Obama administration is very worried about the fallout from the failure of their signature policy initiative. Make no mistake; Emanuel is trying to stave off a monumental political collapse.

The expectations game being played by Democrats is a tacit admission of failure. It makes no sense for Democratic leaders to hold a vote after Labor Day because by then even a Republican Party in total disarray will have succeeded in exposing the legislation as flawed. The Democrats have forfeited the only potent political weapon they had: momentum. It was momentum that passed the Stimulus Bill and Cap & Trade. Hence the anger of the far Left at today's agreement. It robs them of the urgency they require to cram down bad legislation.

Update: More on the circular firing squad.

The current bill is dead. The question now is what parts of the zombie will rise from the grave in October and be passed and voted on before anyone can even read the new bill.

In my opinion, if Obama had succeeded in ramming the present health care initiative through Congress he would have reaped a short term gain in his eyes for what would have been a long term loss once the public would have become aware of the provisions of the bill after passage. This event following TARP and the Cap and Trade would have been the third strike and you're out for the Democrats in Congress in 2010. The pressure of the Blue Dogs in reworking this legislation (possibly behind the scenes with moderate Republicans) will, I think, in the long run save Obama's ideologic butt. But his ego is so big he will never recognize it. Just my opinion.

If the proposed bill even goes to a vote, the Democrats can kiss their jobs goodbye - they'll all be voted out in the next election (just like the last time they screwed up health care reform). Should legitimate, meaningful, health care reform (like single-payer, for instance) fail to be enacted, the Democrats will be unelectable for the foreseeable future - and deservedly so.

LEAD, FOLLOW, OR GET OUT OF... (Below threshold)
jacksmith:

LEAD, FOLLOW, OR GET OUT OF THE WAY. (Thomas Paine)

We have the 37th worst quality of healthcare in the developed world. Conservative estimates are that over 120,000 of you dies each year in America from treatable illness that people in other developed countries don't die from. Rich, middle class, and poor a like. Insured and uninsured. Men, women, children, and babies. This is what being 37th in quality of healthcare means.

I know that many of you are angry and frustrated that REPUBLICANS! In congress are dragging their feet and trying to block TRUE healthcare reform. What republicans want is just a taxpayer bailout of the DISGRACEFUL GREED DRIVEN PRIVATE FOR PROFIT health insurance industry, and the DISGRACEFUL GREED DRIVEN PRIVATE FOR PROFIT healthcare industry. A trillion dollar taxpayer funded private health insurance bailout is all you really get without a robust government-run public option available on day one. Co-OP's ARE NOT A SUBSTITUTE FOR A GOVERNMENT-RUN PUBLIC OPTION. They are a fraud being pushed by the GREED DRIVEN PRIVATE FOR PROFIT health insurance industry that is KILLING YOU!

YOU CANT HAVE AN INSURANCE MANDATE WITHOUT A ROBUST PUBLIC OPTION. MANDATING PRIVATE FOR PROFIT HEALTH INSURANCE AS YOUR ONLY CHOICE WOULD BE A DISASTER AND UNETHICAL, CORRUPT, AND MORALLY REPUGNANT. AND PROBABLY UNCONSTITUTIONAL AS WELL.

These industries have been slaughtering you and your loved ones like cattle for decades for profit. Including members of congress and their families. These REPUBLICANS are FOOLS!

Republicans and their traitorous allies have been trying to make it look like it's President Obama's fault for the delays, and foot dragging. But I think you all know better than that. President Obama inherited one of the worst government catastrophes in American history from these REPUBLICANS! And President Obama has done a brilliant job of turning things around, and working his heart out for all of us.

But Republicans think you are just a bunch of stupid, idiot, cash cows with short memories. Just like they did under the Bush administration when they helped Bush and Cheney rape America and the rest of the World.

But you don't have to put up with that. And this is what you can do. The Republicans below will be up for reelection on November 2, 2010. Just a little over 13 months from now. And many of you will be able to vote early. So pick some names and tell their voters that their representatives (by name) are obstructing TRUE healthcare reform. And are sellouts to the insurance and medical lobbyist.

Ask them to contact their representatives and tell them that they are going to work to throw them out of office on November 2, 2010, if not before by impeachment, or recall elections. Doing this will give you something more to do to make things better in America. And it will help you feel better too.

There are many resources on the internet that can help you find people to call and contact. For example, many social networking sites can be searched by state, city, or University. Be inventive and creative. I can think of many ways to do this. But be nice. These are your neighbors. And most will want to help.

I know there are a few democrats that have been trying to obstruct TRUE healthcare reform too. But the main problem is the Bush Republicans. Removing them is the best thing tactically to do. On the other hand. If you can easily replace a democrat obstructionist with a supportive democrat, DO IT!

You have been AMAZING!!! my people. Don't loose heart. You knew it wasn't going to be easy saving the World. :-)

God Bless You

2) If we lagged behind it is because America has become the dumping ground for so many lowlives that don't take care of themselves like the should. If you subtracted them out I bet we would be pretty much on top.

BTW - I'm no birther, as you folks know - I think the whole thing's a pretty pointless exercise in semantics regarding 'citizen' vs 'natural born citizen' and the like... but the subject of Obama's birth certificate was brought up (and actually discussed relatively rationally) on a leftist board I occasionally check.

Their take was - "Why the hell hasn't he shown his birth certificate, to shut the wingnuts up? Why is he forcing the issue to the Supreme Court?"

Why, indeed?

One example at ReclusiveLeftist.com ...

Obama is a very smart manipulator, with a great gift for spin control. If he thought for one minute that whatever would be revealed by that document was harmless to his reputation, he would have produced it by now. That he continues to hide it, given the enormous controversy surrounding this mysterious document, indicates that whatever the big secret is, it's juicy as hell and extremely harmful to his reputation.

Of course I want to see it!
