The Democrat with the freezer full of cash finally has to pay up. From The Times-Picayune:
William Jefferson, the former Democratic congressman who served the New Orleans area for nine terms, was found guilty today of 11 of 16 corruption charges. The jury of eight women and four men returned the verdict after five days of deliberation
Jefferson was charged with soliciting bribes and other crimes for a series of schemes in which he helped American businesses broker deals in West African in exchange for payments or financial considerations to companies controlled by members of his family, including his brother Mose, his wife, Andrea, their five daughters and a son-in-law.
Jefferson faces sentencing Oct. 30 by Judge T.S. Ellis III, who earlier meted out stiff sentences for lesser figures in the case. According to the U.S. attorney's office, Jefferson faced 235 years in prison if convicted on all counts. Chief prosecutor Mark Lytle said Jefferson could face more than 20 years in prison under federal sentencing guidelines.
Remember Jefferson also commadeered National Guard troops during Katrina to help him recover his ill-gotten gains.
Have fun in prision Willie...

So Lee, let me get this straight. It's OK for you to have voiced your suspicion of his guilt without question because you are (I presume) a Democrat. However, it is not OK for a Republican to openly voice that same suspicion based upon the same available public information available at the time simply because the individual is, uh, a Republican. You do realize how weird that is don't you?

Holy cow - a dem was FINALLY convicted of a crime. How did that happen? If only we can get the tax evaders out of the white house and into the big house. Their refusal to pay taxes just puts more pressure on the white house to pull it out of our pockets.

Not one commenter has mentioned that he will get his full retirement, same as the GOP Duke Cunningham is. Why aren't you complaining and writing and calling your elected critters that all the elected crooks who get caught and receive the guilty verdict are stripped of all their retirement funds? Doesn't matter what party, we the taxpayers are paying for their SOLICALISED MEDICINE AND Retirement benefits.

JC is of course quite correct.
The SOB will receive ALL the benefits of a 'retired' congressman because the Senate has blocked legislation that would strip convicted felons of their benefits.
"Boyda's original measure, the Pension Forfeiture Act, passed the House in January but never made it through the Senate. The same language was folded into the ethics reform legislation that passed 411-8 on Tuesday."
'Cold Cash' Jefferson deserves none of the benefits of retirement from Congress as a convicted felon because he used the power of office to obtain his ill gotten gains.
Most likely he will go to one of the country club federal retreats too, instead of a prison like Folsom.
