Rats In The White House

(Mike Laprarie has the disgraceful "flag@whitehouse.gov" issue covered in nice detail below. I offer this as a small addendum.)

From the new White House "click 'n snitch" page:

Opponents of health insurance reform may find the truth a little inconvenient, but as our second president famously said, "facts are stubborn things."

This simple, profound quote was spoken by then lawyer John Adams during his defense of the British soldiers involved in the "Boston Massacre". (They were acquitted.)

As John Adams is my favorite historical American figure, I found the use of this quote for this matter to sully the reputation of such an intellectual giant.

Adams is arguably one of our greatest Americans. He was one of the most influential Founding Fathers. One whose ideas formed a large basis for the existence of our unique government. He was a true patriot in the classical American sense of the word.

He did, however, commit one of the most un-American acts ever preformed by a president. One which disturbingly juxtaposes itself with the very essence of this new White House program.

Adams signed into law the Alien and Sedition Acts of 1798. Legislation meant to stifle dissent, root out opposition to the government and its actions, and if necessary, punish those found to be in violation of the law with imprisonment or deportation.

It was perhaps the worst decision of his life as a public figure, one that in his later years, he came to lament making.

While this act was written under vastly different circumstances, with our government still in its infancy, the looming possibility of war with France, and the general population's mental constitution so fragile, one could almost make a case for its inception.

The fact that this White House chose this statement, by John Adams, who reluctantly enacted this unconstitutional law, is not purely coincidence.

Consider this to be the beginning of the Obama administration's unraveling: Its modern day equivalent to the Alien and Sedition Acts. Now enacted by a man and his disturbed minions who are so hell-bent on consolidating power, that they would outwardly flaunt the First Amendment rights of our citizenry by attempting to pit one against another with unspoken intimidation.

The fact that Obama needs to stoop to something this unseemly proves how little faith he has in the worth of his cause.

Encouraging Americans to rat out eachother due to political differences is as desperate, and un-American, as you could get.

Shawn, this is just 'Chicago Style Politics', just ask those who ran against Barry in Illinois.
In the coming weeks, look for more muscle to be applied to those who 'dissent'. Guess Barry and Company plan on real consolidation of power before the 2010 elections. Wonder how much of that "Stimulus Money" is going to ACORN?

Every morning I wake up and wonder "what's next"?

Which private sector will be vilified today? What private business entity will be subsidized and ultimately controlled with my children's and grandchildren's future earnings? Who is the next demon disparaging our ruler's attempts at making things "fair"? What foreign despot is next in line for apologies?

I usually don't have to wait long.

Highlander:

Some enterprising young blogger should set up a link allowing citizens to sign a petition-like statement to the effect that we the people thought we'd save the Administration having to go to all the trouble and expense of developing a snitch list, by volunteering one of our own - and then sending the resultant list of thousands to the head snitch at the White House. I don't have the expertise to do this myself, but I would consider it a badge of honor to sign it.

Interesting quote from an administration that relies on deception and demonization to get its agenda enacted. Is there any other administration that has done more to insult the efforts of the Founders?

When I read White Houses's "fishy" statement, I thought that they were just trying to stay informed so the could counter the next rumor like "The Democrats' health plan would herd all senior citizens into death camps to be euthanized".

I guess I'll have to get my paranoia meter replaced with one that has a dial that goes to 11.
