Psalm 10
Why Do You Hide Yourself?
1Why, O LORD, do you stand afar off?
Why do you hide yourself in times of trouble?
2In arrogance the wicked hotly pursue the poor;
let them be caught in the schemes that they have devised.
3For the wicked boasts of the desires of his soul,
and the one greedy for gain curses and renounces the LORD.
4In the pride of his face the wicked does not seek him;
all his thoughts are, "There is no God."
5His ways prosper at all times;
your judgments are on high, out of his sight;
as for all his foes, he puffs at them.
6He says in his heart, "I shall not be moved;
throughout all generations I shall not meet adversity."
7His mouth is filled with cursing and deceit and oppression;
under his tongue are mischief and iniquity.
8He sits in ambush in the villages;
in hiding places he murders the innocent.
His eyes stealthily watch for the helpless;
9he lurks in ambush like a lion in his thicket;
he lurks that he may seize the poor;
he seizes the poor when he draws him into his net.
10The helpless are crushed, sink down,
and fall by his might.
11He says in his heart, "God has forgotten,
he has hidden his face, he will never see it."
12Arise, O LORD; O God, lift up your hand;
forget not the afflicted.
13Why does the wicked renounce God
and say in his heart, "You will not call to account"?
14But you do see, for you note mischief and vexation,
that you may take it into your hands;
to you the helpless commits himself;
you have been the helper of the fatherless.
15Break the arm of the wicked and evildoer;
call his wickedness to account till you find none.
16The LORD is king forever and ever;
the nations perish from his land.
17O LORD, you hear the desire of the afflicted;
you will strengthen their heart; you will incline your ear
18to do justice to the fatherless and the oppressed,
so that man who is of the earth may strike terror no more.
(Psalm 10 quoted in the English Standard Version.)

It's not a 9/11 psalm. Here's the story: David (the alledged author) was being sheltered at the time of its writing by elements of his own nation's enemies; namely, the Philistines. He expresses his fear of the court of the Kingdom of Israel and its designs to assasinate him, the adopted heir (after the death of Jonathan, his best friend, King Saul's son).
In fact, David volunteered to ride against Israel and Saul with the Philistine cavalry, but was put off due to Philistine suspicions.
Not exactly Homeland Security-approved!
BTW, stick with the KJV. It's the only direct translation fron the original tongues in the English language (except for the rare old "Authorized" Geneva version). Strong's Concordance is unusable with any other. The English Standard Version is a translation of a translation in the cause of "readability".
That's how the Jehovah's Witnesses got started!

Wow, bryanD ... who'd have thought that the one area where you're far more conservative than I am would turn out to be the Bible.
With regard to the Psalm, I think that vs. 2-11 are a pretty accurate description of the kind of barbarism that drives the members of Al Qaeda, Hezbollah, or any other terrorist organization. They may convince themselves that they are honoring "God", but the Bible (and in particular its prophetic and Gospel writings) teaches that God's will is never accomplished through acts of evil.
I also believe that vs. 16-18 accurately conveys the prophetic vision that inspires those of us who have the desire to see God's ultimate plan fulfilled -- a world whose human inhabitants have been regenerated in His image and are no longer inclined to violence and injustice.
The evil perpetrated on 9/11 only strengthens that desire.

"The evil perpetrated on 9/11 only strengthens that desire."
And the views you've expressed only strengthen the chances that it will never happen.
"I also believe that vs. 16-18 accurately conveys the prophetic vision that inspires those of us who have the desire to see God's ultimate plan fulfilled -- a world whose human inhabitants have been regenerated in His image and are no longer inclined to violence and injustice."
Having "a world full of Christians" necessitates eliminating non-Christians -- and that kind of religious extremism was a principal motivator the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
Your views -- your desire to rid the world of non-Christians -- is extreme... just as extreme as the 9/11 attackers. Instead of using planes against buildings, Republicans used our army against Muslims in Iraq.

It's over your head. No question.
But I say forgive you, for you know not what you do. It's incumbent upon those of us who do know the danger that your extreme views present to prevent your religious tenents and doctrine from becoming public policy again.
We succeeded in the 2006 and 2008 elections and I think we'll prevail in coming elections as well.
It's clear that the line between church and state must be held. Never again will the President of the United States launch a holy war in our name. Never again.
