President Promises Promises Previously Promised

lucy-charlie-brown-football.jpg

From The San Francisco Chronicle:

President Barack Obama reaffirmed his campaign pledge to end the ban on homosexuals serving openly in the military in a speech Saturday, but offered no timetable or specifics for acting on that promise.

He acknowledged to a cheering crowd that some policy changes he promised on the campaign trail are not coming as quickly as they expected.

"I will end 'don't ask-don't tell,'" Obama said to a standing ovation from the crowd of about 3,000 at the annual dinner of the Human Rights Campaign, a gay civil rights advocacy group.

Taking a cue from the Nobel Peace Prize committee the crowd wildly applauded Obama for doing nothing...

914, exactly! You guys criticized Obama for offering a time table on closing Gitmo before the details were worked out. Now your criticizing Obama for not providing a time-table before the details are worked out.

What 914 is trying to point out is that Obama gets credit for promises, not accomplishments.

Think of an Olympic runner - would he get a gold medal for promising to beat a world's record time in the 100 meter dash, or actually doing it?

In politics, talk is cheap yet reaps (at least for Obama) endless rewards.

"You guys criticized Obama for offering a time table on closing Gitmo before the details were worked out."

What time table for closing Gitmo? All he did was commit himself to a date for closing it. He didn't offer anything resembling a time table and certainly not a plan. That little moron just thought it would be so easy to deal with all the inmates and refused to listen to the GOP about difficulties that were obvious to anyone paying the slightest bit attention. Fun fact: Bush wanted to close Gitmo, too, but he didn't because he preferred to know where the inmates would be going first. Here's another fun fact: Obama's already released some dangerous terrorists from Gitmo, such as the Cole bombing mastermind.

"Don't Ask, Don't Tell" is actually the complete opposite. It is completely easy for Obama to end it. He doesn't need Congress to vote on it. All he has to do is sign an executive order. He won't do it, though, because he's a political coward. Of course, I should be fair here. Obama might not know he has that power. That's certainly possible since he's demonstrated such overwhelming stupidity in his entire career.

So we find ourselves in this long struggle with Islam where we need the cooperation of the governments and peoples of, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Afghanistan, and Pakistan. Obama claims to be "sensitive" to Muslims and yet he's promising to allow gays to serve openly in the military. Homosexuality is such an affront to Muslims that they don't allow those who practice it to live. What will Obama do when these nations tell him he can't send gays to their country; reinstate don't ask don't tell for those serving in such nations?

What mess are you talking about? If it's the economy that mess is the result of the sub-prime mortgage stampede and that mess can be laid at the feet of Democrats starting with Jimmy Carter. In fact, Bush made many attempts to rein in Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac starting back in April 2001.

If it's the war in Afgainistan you have to remember this is where the 9/11 attack were planed from and Democrats, including Obama, have been touting it as the good war for nearly 8 years. The situation has only gotten out of hand since Obama took control, and now it looks like he'll ignore the advice of the top military experts. Bush fulfilled the mission in Iraq with the signing of the forces agreement under his watch. Obama hasn't had to do anything more.

Liberals like to blame Bush for everything including the 2016 Olympics going south, but the facts show their refusal to take responsibility is just childish diversion unworthy of elected officials. The electorate is going to change that.

SteveP, what role did Congress play in the financial meltdown? Who repeatedly blocked reform of Fannie and Freddie? Who started the CRA? What Congress passed the CRA? Who doubled down on the CRA? Who is currently trying to implement more CRA loans? Who has controlled the House and Senate since Jan 2007? Who passed the Stimulus? Here's a big clue for you, DEMOCRATS is the answer to all of the above. Name a specific example of something Bush did that caused any of your above stated economic meltdown.

"Don't Ask Don't Tell" is a policy that has served our military very well. FACTS:

(1)The military is a FIGHTING firce...NOT a "social experiment"
(2)Our military is best performing military in the world.
(3)The number of cases of abuse of this policy is so small as to represent a rounding error.
(4) Morale, until last November was sky-high...though Obama has done nothing to maintain it

Therefore I predict Obama WILL do away with this policy. Our military is the only thing he HASN'T broken yet. This will help him on that goal.

Your point 4 manages to gloss over 2 minor issues. 9/11 and the housing collapse.

Now I'm sure that you are a truther so there's no point trying to persuade you that Bush didn't make 9/11 happen.

The housing collapse was due more to the CRA and Dem mismanagement (Barney Frank saying in 2005 that there was no problem with Fannie Mae for example).

Let's look at market performance between those two disasters.

OH! The S&P 500 grew 89% between Sept 2001 and Oct 2007 when we started to see the first manifestations of the mortgage bubble.

You can misrepresent anything you want but unemployment was as low as it was under Clinton and the economy was growing as well. Just because you're too stupid to actually look at the data and not just read your talking points is no reason to bother us with your inanity.

Right now the military is still trying to figure out how to successfully handle race and gender issues (don't tell me that there aren't continued flagrant problems with folks dropping the race card or screaming sexual harassment to avoid consequences of their laziness and bad choices). There are a significant number of homosexual folks of both genders in the military, and while don't ask don't tell seems pretty ridiculous, its better than what we had before. It needs to go, but it needs to be replaced carefully. So far with what I see from the Obama Administration, I think the cartoon above is very appropriate.
