The Gospel According to Kennedy.

Ah, the Kennedy's.

America's "royalty". Camelot. John and Jackie's charm and elegance. Robert's youthful ambition. And Ted's, well, uh, thirstiness.

I've never understood the abject adoration that the baby-boomer generation has bestowed upon them, nor the fascination with their Catholicism. For if ever there were a famous family to be held up as faithful members of Catholic tenets, the Kennedy's ain't it.

I present Exhibit, uh, "F": Patrick Kennedy.

In another exercise of Kennedy hauteur, pickled Whore Island Representative Patrick Kennedy has undertaken a war of words with Bishop Thomas J. Tobin of the Providence Diocese over the Catholic Church's stance against possible tax-payer funded abortion in ObamaCare.

He is exasperated at the fact that the Church can possibly be against government-funded abortions, as if this is some kind of explosive new plot that has just been exposed.

From the Boston Globe:

"I can't understand for the life of me how the Catholic Church could be against the biggest social justice issue of our time, where the very dignity of the human person is being respected by the fact that we're caring and giving health care to the human person - that right now we have 50 million people who are uninsured,'' Kennedy said.

He added: "You mean to tell me the Catholic Church is going to be denying those people life-saving health care? I thought they were pro-life? If the church is pro-life, then they ought to be for health care reform, because it's going to provide health care that are going to keep people alive."!

For God's sake: What part of "abortion = murder" can't you understand, Pat? You can't give health care to someone if you've denied them the right to exist!

And what the hell is a "human person"?

The bishop explained the church's stance, saying that while the church supports health care overhaul, "we are adamantly opposed to health care legislation that threatens the life of unborn children, requires taxpayers to pay for abortion, rations health care, or compromises the conscience of individuals.

"Congressman Kennedy continues to be a disappointment to the Catholic Church and to the citizens of the state of Rhode Island,'' the bishop said. "I believe the congressman owes us an apology for his irresponsible comments. It is my fervent hope and prayer that he will find a way to provide morally responsible leadership for our state.''

Bishop: 1/ Kennedy: 0

The Catholic church, as a matter of principle and church teaching, historically and unabashedly opposes abortion. This is not a secret. The Church has just as much of a right to promote their ideals and to speak openly of them then any other individual or organization, including the punks of Club Kennedy.

As much as liberals like Kennedy want to make the Church the boogie-man of "women's rights", abortion is not a religious issue. It is a civil one. The Church may be against abortion, but you don't have to be a Catholic to be pro-life..

Kennedy's breathless rebuke of the Church's stance on government-run abortion serves to highlight this family's complete sense of entitlement and arrogance. His tantrum effuses a belief that his spoiled family status and bratty influence should be accepted as some over-arching social doctrine, with gravitas enough to expect an entire religion to conform to his own ideology.

Just another example of the famous tolerance of liberals.

Stevie Green can be counted on "not to get it". Re-read the Church's stand re: abortion. It ain't going to change Stevie. The Church does not give a rat's ass what Congress makes "legal".

Patches Kennedy says he's "Catholic", but obviously doesn't even understand what the Church teaches. Ditto Nancy Pelosi. The Pope chewed her ass out when she last came to visit.

As for the Kennedy's - nothings changed. Still the spoiled darlings of the liberal set.

Setting aside the fact abortion is legal, what don't you understand about the Church not wanting fed cash to pay for or promote something they find immoral?

Nevermind, you won't answer. At least not directly, you'll go off on some tangent of absurdity.

Words have meanings - Abortion isn't Murder.

Murder, as defined in common law countries, is the unlawful killing of another human being with intent (or malice aforethought), and generally this state of mind distinguishes murder from other forms of unlawful homicide (such as manslaughter).

I know women who have had legal abortions. Labeling them as "Murderers" is offensive.

Please, please please get out of my country and go live someplace where the laws match your moral code.

Steve,

It may not be defined as such in a dictionary or law book ( or Wikipedia), but many people personally view and define abortion in that way, whether you are offended by it or not.

That's the reality of it.

If quibbling semantics is your addition to the running commentary, then slither into a closet and hang your head. It is intellectually lazy and you know it.

Not all Kennedy's supported abortion rights. Eunice was a tireless defender of the unborn. Patrick is an idiot. His father didn't leave him much of an example to follow except to be arrogant as hell...he is following Ted to the letter on that one. Abortion is a human right? What about being allowed to live in the first place? Joan Kennedy suffered several miscarriages. PK should thank his lucky charms he wasn't thrown into the outbox. BTW...anyone, not just a Kennedy, needs to find another religion that supports abortion if that is their belief. Miserable example of a good Catholic. I am mystified as to why the Kennedys regarded as such or at all and respected in any way.

Jvette:

Joe Kennedy was a ghetto rat who hit it big during prohibition. His greatest ambition was to be one of the elite and to have political power. He hoped to gain that power through his children.

Joe Jr. died in military service to this country during WWI. John and Bobby killed by assassins.
They all seemed, though their potential was never realized, to be men dedicated to this country and to those less fortunate.

Ted, the only brother to survive to old age was the weakest link in that family's chain.
Though initially, he seemed to want to carry on in the honorable fashion of his brothers, his own weaknesses and lack of spine led him to sacrifice any principled stand to the altar of political power.

It is unfortunate that Ted was the role model for all the Kennedy grandchildren. The Kennedy family may have stood once on the brink of greatness, but the last standing brother led it off a cliff.
