So out of touch that they claimed no knowledge of the Tea Party movement?
So out of touch that President Obama had no interest in watching Tuesday evening's election results?
So out of touch that they let President Obama ramble on lightheartedly for nearly three minutes before addressing the tragic mass-murder at Fort Hood, even though the cable news networks JIP'd the President's speech because they expected him to open it with a statement expressing his condolences?
And now we have this absolute gem, courtesy of White House press secretary Robert Gibbs, who was asked about the handful of distasteful signs that appeared at Thursday's impromptu "Tea Party" gathering in DC to protest the Democrat health care reform bill :
"I will continue to say what I've said before. You hear in this debate, you hear analogies, you hear references to, you see pictures about and depictions of individuals that are truly stunning, and you hear it all the time. People -- imagine five years ago somebody comparing health care reform to 9/11. Imagine just a few years ago had somebody walked around with images of Hitler.
Yes, imagine! Just imagine!!

Allahpundit notes,
Two possible explanations: (1) Gibbsy was trying to say something else and it came out very wrong; (2) Gibbsy was in a deep, deep coma for much of the past decade. Either way, maybe "White House press secretary" isn't the optimal line of work for him. I'm stammering at the moment myself from sheer frustration at deciding where to begin to answer him, but thankfully [Mary Katherine Ham] has pulled the necessary links together to do the job.
The only question I have is, what will they screw up next?
(By the way, I'm not sure if anyone else in the blogosphere has explicitly called this, but as far as I am concerned President Obama's dreadful speech in the wake of the Fort Hood massacre absolutely qualifies as his personal "Pet Goat" moment.)

What do you expect from an administration run by a president who doesn't know how many states there are? (57? More?)
What do you expect from a president who can't tell the difference between the Congressional Medal of Honor and the Presidential Order of Freedom (when he awarded the recipient of the latter himself)?
We have a White House run by a bunch of kids who flunked High School civics and whose thinking hasn't ever progressed from the Utopian idealism of that age group either. They don't know this nation's history and they don't know the constitution.

1 second Google search:
"Bush=Hitler"
number of hits: 9,640,000
Of course, there are many variations...and adding just a couple more send the number of hits into the HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS!!
MSNBC practically had "Bush=Hitler" as their LOGO! Keith Olberman delighted in "covering" news stories showing picture like those abouve EVERY NIGHT!
I live in the SF Bay Area. Every 3rd car had a bumper sticker comparing Bush to Hitler!

We have plenty of despicable men in our own American history who have promulgated genocide, murder, and larceny of the public for personal gain.
It seems very disturbing that we are afraid to find a negative icon from our past to label those we dislike - and instead compare our own perceived villains to foreigners.

Based on my observation at Thursday's rally and at the 912 rally, I think that the more distasteful and loony/paranoid signs were the handiwork of the LaRouchers. They were probably also responsible for some of the more outrageous anti-Bush posters back in the day.

Mr. Green,
I believe that "Justrand" was using a literary device known as "Hyperbole." In any event, your response does show Mr. Gibbs to be clueless - You do recall seeing such bumper stickers.

and if Stevie Green doesn't recall seeing more than "one a month" he must spend all his time in his parent's basement.
The day DID NOT GO BY when I failed to see at least one. And that is NOT hyperbole. I drive about 45 miles each way to work, and thus see more cars than Stevie can see from his parent's basement, granted.
p.s. three cars on my street USED TO sport: "Dissent is the highest form of Patriotism" bumper stickers. Oddly, since Obama was elected the bumper stickers have been taken off. hmmmm.....

Gibbs isn't concerned with historical accuracy. He's focused on the idea that "perception is reality". If he can convince his acolytes in the MSM to pass along the idea that the evil racist tea-baggers are attacking this President like no one in history, then they will try to rewrite history in the minds of a docile public.
