An Exercise In Comparing And Contrasting

When the Fort Hood massacre happened, President Obama called it a "tragedy" and said we must not jump to conclusions why some Muslim would shoot a bunch of Americans while yelling "Allahu Ackbar." Then he sent out his minions to denounce any possible backlash against Muslims and talk up the value of "diversity" in the military, and took the weekend off to go to Camp David, And even when he attended the memorial service, he went out of his way to discourage even speculation as to why someone who had actively sought out militant radical Muslims and tried to contact Al Qaeda would do such a heinous thing.

Meanwhile, former president George W. Bush and his wife visited with the wounded of Fort Hood, asking the base's commander to keep the visit quiet.

On the other hand, a few weeks ago President Obama visited Delaware to greet the returning bodies of American servicemen who had fallen in his service overseas -- bringing along a full camera crew to make certain it was fully documented.

I find myself wondering if, once Officer Kimberly Munley and Major Nidal Malik Hasan are medically cleared, they will be invited to the White House to discuss their differences over a beer or two.

Nah. That'll never happen.

Hasan, being a dedicated Muslim, would never drink alcohol or freely associate with a woman.

I miss "W" too.

I had huge issues with his policies over the last 4 years...and cringed at his lack of "style" in speaking.

But he CARES about America, the troops, the people.

Obama cares about OBAMA! And it shows.

SillyPuddy:

Bush may not have been the best speaker or had the best policies, but he respected the office he held, loved America, and he and Laura far out classed both his predecessor and the man child that superseded him.

The stark contrast is not lost on those with open eyes.

The news crew was there(Dover) for the family requesting/releasing the pictures(please note none of the other Hero's caskets are featured). He had a right and responsibility to be there. He obviously got some training to perform as well as he did. We should be happy that he cared that much. He also staid up until close to 5AM talking/meeting with those there. My opinion only, this was a very appropriate appearance.

That said, I sure do miss W. It's great to have him in Dallas.

You're wrong about the beer. He was known to bring a 6 pack into the strip club right around the corner from the base. Similar to Atta visiting shoe modeling clubs in fla before 9-11. I think he'd have a beer with Clinton before Obama.

If you are seriously suggesting that Obama was wrong to say all Muslims shouldn't be blamed for one man's horrible actions....I just don't know what to say.

Yes I do: that is freaking crazy.

And it is currently Obama's JOB to speak to the pulic in front of cameras. And to call for calm. Bush, as an ex-president, at least has an obligation of politness not to jump on the mic when he's around.

Well put, jim x. Dubya has been a pretty good job of avoiding mics since he left office.

Could you pass that along to Misters Clinton and Carter?

I don't believe that Clinton and Carter ever went to Bush's own appearances while he was President, and grabbed the mic. Please, correct me if I'm wrong.

I'm not saying ex-Presidents should just be quiet and retire. I'm simply explaining why it was actually good and praiseworthy of ex-President Bush to meet somewhat quietly with Ft. Hood personnel, while now-President Obama was publicly addressing the country and the world.

There's nothing anywhere that says we have to *like* what Presidents do as private citizens once they're out of office. I'm sure I won't like what ex-President Bush will do to fundraise, for example. But that's his right, just as it's Clinton's and Carter's. Don't you agree?

Well, Carter's tried conducting his own foreign policy, and Clinton's the gift that keeps on giving. And as you just now noted, Bush did NOT make any public appearances or statements about Fort Hood, so I'm left wondering just where the fuck your "Bush, as an ex-president, at least has an obligation of politness not to jump on the mic when he's around" bullshit came from.

I guess that it was such an incompetent straw man, I missed it entirely.

The obvious difference between republican ex presidents and democrat ex presidents is simply: class. Carter and Clinton, it is all about them, not the country.

Obama was busy having fun at Camp David shooting hoops to fly to Ft. Hood to meet with the grieving military and their families. Someone should have told him there was a microphone and teleprompter there for him. What an empty suit. Faux class. Faux brevity. Faux wisom. ww

OK, jim, that makes sense. You fumbled your praise for Bush because you're not used to it. Makes a bit of sense now.

And I appreciate the effort you made. Kinda reminds me of the few times I've said something good about Obama. Bet you felt like you needed a shower after, too...
