The actual moonbat defense will be:

"Photoshop! It's a fake! The original photo has been rotated 90 degrees to the left to give the appearance of a 'bow' where none exists! Rotate the fake back to the right, and you will see it is actually a photo of Comrade Obama bending down from Heaven to greet the reclining Japanese in a modern reenactment of the Adam & Eve scene by Michaelangelo, you right-wing Philistines!"

Obama is a pathetic excuse for a disgrace.

Just how much does someone have to hate America and everything for which she stands in order to support this subversive loser?

Marc -You're right... (Below threshold)
JLawson:

Marc -

You're right - in Japan bowing is endemic to the culture. And there's a radical difference in the bow you give to a subordinate, to an equal, and to a superior.

"Let's begin learning how to bow properly in Japan. Bowing seems simple, but there are different ways of bowing. It depends on the social status or age of the person you bow to. If the person is higher status or older than you are, you should bow deeper and longer. It is polite to bow, bending from your waist. Men usually keep their hands in their sides, and women usually put their hands together on their thighs with their fingers touching. If it is a casual situation, you can bow like nodding. The most frequent bow is a bow of about 15 degrees. You might feel strange to do it, but try to bow in Japan. You will be considered very polite.
That ain't no 15 degree bow. That's not a 45 degree bow. That's pretty much a 90 degree bow, the position someone very much inferior would take.

Who the hell is advising him on this shit, anyway?

I'm far more concerned about words spoken while in Asia than his or someone's inability to understand the proper protocol when in Japan.

Of course, I'll be waiting when some of you waste time whining about obama as he meets a dignitary in Bejing and screws up.

Actually, no I won't, the reaction is far too predicable.

Then you should know that the depth and length of time you hold the bow IS VERY VERY IMPORTANT. ESPECIALLY when you bow to the Emperor.

This is not a bow amongst equals. This was a definite inferior-to-superior bow. Furthermore, as equals you ALWAYS keep your head up and looking at the person you bow at...unless you are showing your subservience.

Even Mr Miyagi said about the bow: "Always look eye!"

This is not the equivalent of shaking hands, this was the equivalent of getting down on your knees and kissing the ring on his finger.

He recently apologized to them for having them suffer through the embarrassment of having to surrender at the end of WWII. IN PUBLIC, on a US battleship, no less, and the press actually TOOK PICTURES, horrors, to perpetuate the shame.
When asked recently about the A-bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, he wanted so much to tell the Japs what bad people the Americans have been and still are and he is the only one who can correct this. He also told the Japs our souls will be consigned to wander in the universe in a rudderless spaceship.

I lived in Japan for years. Bowing is a fine art that the conditioned eye can judge to a millimeter. My eye says this is a bow of obedience that a wife would give to her husband. I'm sure this photo caused a lot of laughter in Japan. In the 70s, the Japanese had a TV show where they made fun of western .. American.. husbands who learned to speak Japanese from their wives. The Japanese think it is a hoot when others break the cultural form.

And there is your mistake. The Emperor is an Emperor. Obama is an incompetent affirmative action hack. They are NOT equals.

On the other hand, I think he did this on purpose. Obama gives the right wing something meaningless to whine about to give Congress cover to destroy the medical industry. 15 years from now when your local the death panel denies your plea for insulin, you really won't remember if it was a 15 or 90 degree bow.

So get a grip already.
