A week ago, in The New York Times:
In a July meeting, Chinese officials asked their American counterparts detailed questions about the health care legislation making its way through Congress. The president's budget director, Peter R. Orszag, answered most of their questions. But the Chinese were not particularly interested in the public option or universal care for all Americans."They wanted to know, in painstaking detail, how the health care plan would affect the deficit," one participant in the conversation recalled. Chinese officials expect that they will help finance whatever Congress and the White House settle on, mostly through buying Treasury debt, and like any banker, they wanted evidence that the United States had a plan to pay them back.
Last night, on Saturday Night Live, the cast brought the point home:
Evidence that Obama's running out of Kool-Aid.

"We have restored America's standing in the world," Barrack Obama.
It is tough for him to live with his ever-expanding ego. He can not face the reality of his mediocrity.

He does not understand that the cult following he assembled in the early part of 2008 is based on an enthusiasm for hatred of Bush, White Guilt, and the adoration of an image that clearly did not match his limited experience and his limited management abilities.
I'll guarantee you, the man still thinks he is in the campaign mode. He would cart his Greek columns around with him like his teleprompter if the Secret Service would let him.
We are stuck with him for three more years, perhaps we can mitigate the damages in the 2010 election.

I'll wager that the Chinese were NOT impressed with the financial machinations of Pelosi and Reid. Matter of fact, they're probably wondering how we managed to kick their asses in Korea, given the current "leadership" in this country. Guess we can look forward to more skits by SNL. They've finally discovered what a gold mine Barry is. Exit question: How many AP/MSNBC "reporters" will be assigned to "Fact Check" the SNL skit?

I can't wait to see what they will be doing with the upcoming terror, oops criminal trials in N.Y. A.G. Holder's performance at the Senate hearings is loaded with material for them. If fact they could use Holder to play himself and lip sync the hearings. Now that is funny.

Can't watch the skit while I'm at work, but I appreciate the sentiment. Seems to me that SNL is trying to get its juice back after Daily Show stole its political satire thunder over the last decade or so.
More substantively, I'm getting more concerned about the national debt by the day. Not so much the deficit spending to stimulate the economy -- I know that's needed -- but more because of potential spending on healthcare reform and who knows what other programs are over the horizon. As the New York Times points out:
Very soon, we won't discuss raising taxes vs. cutting spending. Instead, we'll have to talk about raising taxes AND cutting spending. Just after everybody's wages have taken a hit.
In the alternative, the feds could purposely wreck the economy (and America's standing in the world) through wild inflation. That's a lovely thought.
For 2012, I'm looking for a presidential candidate who's willing to talk turkey about the national debt. Not a candidate who talks vaguely about tax cuts and "letting you keep your money." Not a candidate who promises rainbows and unicorns. Not a candidate who fulminates about cutting spending but takes a butterknife to the budget when we need a chainsaw.
But I don't that candidate today.
