The Backlash Begins

Well, it took a little bit of time, but the inevitable anti-Muslim backlash in the wake of the Fort Hood atrocity has begun. A bunch of Christians went on a rampage in a Muslim neighborhood, destroying several Muslim-run businesses.

Whoops, my bad. It was Muslims, "lashing back" against Christians for an ACCUSATION of rape of a single Muslim by a single Christian, and it happened in Egypt.

Gee, projecting much?

Islam is becoming a joke of a religion. It amazes me that the world Islamic leaders do not come out forcefully against violence which leads one to think they encourage it as long it is against Christians and Jews. ww

After 9/11 I thought people would unite against terrorism, terrorists, and their warped religion. Instead it seems like the world is trying to applease them and kowtow to their ever whim. I don't get it. The very people who "defend" Islam etc. (and critize Christianity-that seems to go hand in hand nowadays) would be the first to get their heads chopped off (literally).
I have seen moderate Islam first hand, and they too like the extremist treat their women like shit.

Haven't you heard, Rosie O'Donnell declared Christianity more dangerous than Islam several years ago.
If Rosie said that, it has to be true, her studio audience even gave her a big round of clap.
Yes, political correctness, since 9/11, Islam has moved up on the PC hierarchy.
Makes no sense.

She's got clap alright.

At the absolute least, Islamic leaders should have been front and center, showing some contrition.
Think of it, some looney organization, not connected to Christianity, going around, murdering people shouting...Praise Jesus...Glory to Jesus.
You would see valid Christian leaders front and center trying to explain the situatoion and make Amens.

Allah Akbar, ya'all.

So very true.

The Egyptian semi-blog/semi... (Below threshold)
tas:

The Egyptian semi-blog/semi-news service BikyaMasr, which has been more frank than any other media I've seen out here (typing from outside of Cairo), has a good article about sectarian violence in Egypt, published in lieu of the the attacks in southern/upper Egypt Jay Tea talks about. Take away quote from that article: "He [a Christian Egyptian] does not attribute this to geographical location but to 'the prevalence of ignorance, poverty and illiteracy in southern Egypt. When a Muslim is uneducated, it is very easy for someone to get him angry and incite him to commit violence against a Christian.'"

I haven't been to southern Egypt yet, but I have been 20-30 miles south of Cairo in Memphis and Sakara. Despite being close to a city in American terms, in Egyptian terms people living 30 miles south of Cairo are far removed from technology and modernization. And the way Egyptians in Cairo have described southern Egypt to me, it's basically villages that lack central law from Cairo ... They're very insular, removed from the modernity of Cairo, and if you piss off the wrong person you get killed.

So yes, it is Muslims in southern Egypt who are rioting, but the "ignorance, poverty and illiteracy" should be taken into account as well. Hell, these people can't even read the Qu'ran.

The modern parts of Egypt have their share of ignorance, poverty, and illiteracy too. Mix that in with stupidity, nationalism, and soccer games and you get thousands of Egyptians rioting against Algeria in Cairo. In context of this post, I'll point out that these riots are far larger than what's going on in southern Egypt, and its against fellow Muslims. If Egyptians are willing to riot over soccer, then there's ignorance in spades in those crowds. I'd love to tell you what the city is like when riots take place, but, well, I've been avoiding the big city lately.
