Wish I could believe all the polls, but the good people I know who voted for him still seem to be holding firm. Wonder what it would take to change their minds? I really thought I had more intelligent family/friends. (Maybe they just can't admit they voted wrong.)

Was there ever any doubt that it would fall?
Obama's initial approval rating was higher than the vote percentages he received in the election -- meaning that people who didn't vote for him in November were approving of his job performance in the following spring, after he'd taken office.
Now we see it settling in to the point where some far lefties are unhappy with his inability to end the war in Afghanistan, and some moderates are unhappy with kowtowing Obama has done towards progressives in other policy areas, and everybody is unhappy with the slow rate of the economic recovery.
Are you surprised when the sun rises in the east each morning? Obama's fall in approval rating was just as predictable.

the ABC News/Washington Post poll only polls Obama's immediate family and close personal friends. So 56% isn't that good a score.

That was my perception just a couple months back. Now there's an unspoken reticence when discussing jobs, public debt, housing, business climate, economics in general, that Obama is out of his depth.
Mark me, they still believe he's on America's side, just he's an idealist ill-suited to managing executive office.
Needless to say, I do mention Dear Leader or respond to their regard.

I read 914's as an attempt at deflection -- "that actually sounds pretty good; I'll give it a try on myself!"
I could be wrong -- tone is infamously hard to pick up from a comment. Another plausible reading is 914 being sarcastic about Bailey's assholery.
For the record, those comments were, indeed, made by "Eneils Bailey," and not an impersonator. I checked the site logs, and it's the same person who's been commenting for over a year.

Mr. Obama really needs to show some real economic improvement in the next few months in order to up his job approval numbers. Still in polls, Mr. Obama leads possible GOP contenders by a margin slightly larger than his 2008 win over John McCain. For example, he runs 8 points ahead of Sarah Palin, but a good 5 points ahead of Mitt Romney and Mike Huckabee. George Bush lost much popular support in 2004, yet managed a win over John Kerry better than his 2000 performance.

Obama is tanking only because he is an inexperienced empty suit who has not business to be in office. He reads a teleprompter well with the aid of professional speech writers. The left and independents fell for it but conservatives did not. Now the independents have awakened. Thanks God. I don't think the left will ever awaken. ww

Paul, the best way for Obama to up his job performance perception would be to actually do his job. You know -- help the economy in an actual, substantive way; make a goddamned decision on Afghanistan (he's dithered longer than it was from 9/11 until we overthrew the Taliban); and so on.
It might have helped if he'd found some Cabinet officers who had experience in the private sector, where you actually have to do shit every now and then, but too many of them were unqualified -- they had actually paid their taxes, not signed up for insane conspiracy theories, or weren't commie groupies.
