"We'll be the victims of irrational ideology"

Czech President Vaclav Klaus:

Vaclav_Klaus.jpg
"I'm convinced that after years of studying the phenomenon, global warming is not the real issue of temperature," said Klaus, an economist by training. "That is the issue of a new ideology or a new religion. A religion of climate change or a religion of global warming. This is a religion which tells us that the people are responsible for the current, very small increase in temperatures. And they should be punished."

Klaus, the second president of the Czech Republic since the fall of communism, is often called the Margaret Thatcher of Central Europe. In the interview, he sounded more like Winston Churchill, vowing to defend liberty and freedom from those who would restrain global economic growth.

"I'm absolutely convinced that the very small global warming we are experiencing is the result of natural causes," Klaus told FoxNews.com. "It's a cyclical phenomenon in the history of the Earth. The role of man is very small, almost negligible."

...

Klaus says that many interested parties get "a lot of money and influence" by backing the idea of global warming and organizing the Copenhagen conference, as well as its predecessor the Kyoto conference. "Some of them are really just rent seekers who hope to get some money either for their businesses or for their countries," says Klaus. "Some of them are really true believers."

The president reckons that environmentalism, executed on the scale suggested by global warming adherents, is a "real way to stop progress, industrial progress...and this is something unfair."

Klaus fears that turning global warming into binding law would impede civilization as we know it.

"We'll be the victims of irrational ideology. They will try to dictate to us how to live, what to do, how to behave," Klaus said. "What to eat, travel, and what my children should have. This is something that we who lived in the communist era for most of our lives -- we still feel very strongly about. We are very sensitive in this respect. And we feel various similarities in their way of arguing or not arguing. In the way of pushing ahead ideas regardless of rational counter-arguments."

Klaus thinks that the world's "silent majority" would agree with his position on global warming. "I'm so sorry that Al Gore and others around the IPCC succeeded in influencing so many people," he said.

...

He worries that schoolchildren around the world are being fed global warming ideology, and that this will give the ideology more power in the future.

"We need to bring new arguments. The real problem isn't the arguments. The real problem is to motivate people to listen to other arguments against this. This is the missing link in the current debate."

Klaus says that he is in favor of "green" technology, but cautions that he is not in favor of the government dictating the development of the technology.

"I lived in a communist world where politicians told us what to do," Klaus said. "I don't think politicians or presidents should suggest to firms what to do. That has always been a mistake."

Let those who have ears, hear.

I am a proud citizen of the United States. I am angered by the apparent all too easy ability of the current political elite to pirate our domestic policies in the direction of collectivism based on the distain for the common man. If not in this country at the moment, I am glad to see there are reasoned voices in governments elsewhere willing to challenge this philosophy. I have a feeling that if Mr Klaus' opinion is shared by the Czech government in general, the country will develop a vibrant economy of interest to investors.

Mac Lorry:

Just as religion was hijacked by those who gained power and wealth from it, science has likewise been hijacked by those who gain power and wealth from it. It took the upheaval of the Reformation to free us from the hijacking of religion and it's possible that a similar upheaval will be needed to free us from the hijacking of science.

The difference is that in science the facts ultimately carry more weight than the credentials, positions, and authority of those who oppose the facts. Also, we have the internet by which information spreads fast and wide so that even those who control the schools can't control all that the young see, hear, and read.

Yes, CO2 forcing is a real, but so is the shifting emissivity of the Earth and its atmosphere and the two physical phenomena negate each other to a large degree. So what's the main causes the climate change? Well the answer to that question can be seen is this professionally produced six part youtube video titled The Cloud Mystery. Don't worry it changes to English after a minute or two. Until then, read the subtitles. You'll also discover why it's so important for the hijackers to control the peer review process.

Question - suppose the earth is warming? Who's to say what our ideal temperature should be? Maybe we've been too cold for a long time, and we're getting back to a normal temp. Maybe too much coastal land has been exposed because of seawater locked up in the polar ice caps, and fools overbuilt on land that is normally under water. Why is CO2 immediately branded as the sole cause of said warming? There are several other far more plausible causes, if indeed we are warming. Why is the reduction of man-made CO2, which represents a small fraction of all CO2 emmitted per year, singled out as the sole thing to "save" us? Perhaps because it is something that can be controlled, regulated, taxed, to the detriment of everyone except those in charge of wielding the power, and collecting the money.

A liar, not a climatologist.

Science has less and less to do with the AGW battle, Alfonso. And raw data behind the underlying "science" has collapsed and has been exposed as the product of manipulation. The scientific method requires that conclusions must be able to withstand the scrutiny of impartial and independent verification to be valid.

This is no longer the case, but politicians, political zealots and self-important climate scientists are still eager to turn the world economy upside down without regard to sustainable scientific evidence and without any serious proof that the solutions they demand will produce any meaningful result.

What's wrong with this picture? Are you so certain of your conclusions that you are not willing to have them examined by non-believers? If you're so sure that you're right, welcome the scrutiny. Otherwise, it's reasonable to conclude that Klaus may be right.

Jim Addison:

The term "denier" is pejorative. Fonzie isn't ready to listen to anything the Party hasn't approved in advance.

The entire defense of the fraud by "peer review" journals is a joke. These journals have repeatedly been fooled by frauds, including Science and Nature on multiple occasions, even within the last decade. You could pass the Piltdown Man off today at least as easily as a century or so ago.

Riddle me this, Batman ~ IF the science is so awfully "settled," WHY must the protagonists lobby behind the scenes to keep opposing views from publication, alter the data to suit their narrative, favorably discuss breaking the law to trash public records, discard all the raw data, and generally act as if they were criminals in the night avoiding apprehension? How does this make any sense if the "science is settled?"

Lurking Observer:

Riddle me this, bobdog:

Why is it necessary to be a climatologist?

In particular, when one-third of the data is supposedly coming from China since 1949, why is it necessary to be a climatologist to know that that data is worthless?

After all, China in the period between 1949 and 1979 went through almost twenty years of internal upheaval. This was a period when anyone who was considered an "intellectual" (i.e., had a high school education) was sent to the countryside as rural labor, and schools from kindergarten through college were shut down.

You had the mass, nation-wide starvation of the Great Leap Forward (1957-1960), you had the Cultural Revolution (1966-1976), you had the disruptions associated with various anti-Rightist campaigns and the like in-between.

Yet, there is supposed to be an unbroken, consistent record of temperatures, recorded scrupulously, taken daily at the same time throughout all this? Really?

Do climatologists know something about Chinese data that the rest of us don't?

Although Dr Pachauri is often presented as a scientist (he was even once described by the BBC as "the world's top climate scientist"), as a former railway engineer with a PhD in economics he has no qualifications in climate science at all." -via U.K. Telegraph
