"I am afraid -- actually, certain -- we are losing the heart and soul that made America unique"

Michael Goodwin, once an Obama supporter:

I am afraid for my country.

I am afraid -- actually, certain -- we are losing the heart and soul that made America unique in human history. Yes, we have enemies, but the greatest danger comes from within.

Watching the freak show in Copenhagen last week, I was alternately furious and filled with dread. The world has gone absolutely bonkers and lunatics are in charge.

Mugabe and Chavez are treated with respect and the United Nations is serious about wanting to regulate our industry and transfer our wealth to kleptocrats and genocidal maniacs.

Even more frightening, our own leaders joined the circus. Marching to the beat of international drummers, they uncoupled themselves from the will of the people they were elected to serve.

President Obama, for whom I voted because I believed he was the best choice available, is a profound disappointment. I now regard his campaign as a sly bait-and-switch operation, promising one thing and delivering another. Shame on me.

Equally surprising, he has become an insufferable bore. The grace notes and charm have vanished, with peevishness and petty spite his default emotions. His rhetorical gifts now serve his loathsome habit of fear-mongering.

"Time is running out," he says, over and again. He said it on health care, on the stimulus, in Copenhagen, on Iran.

Instead of provoking thought and inspiring ideas, the man hailed for his Ivy League nuance insists we stop thinking and do what he says. Now.

His assertion we will go bankrupt unless Congress immediately adopts the health monstrosity marks a new low. At least it did until he barged into a meeting in Copenhagen to insult the Chinese with the same do-it-now arrogance on carbon emissions.

Don't get me wrong -- it's OK to insult the Chinese, but save it for an urgent life-and-death issue. Iran qualifies, with its plans for a nuclear arsenal, yet Obama has not pushed China on that issue with the fervor of his attacks on their dirty smokestacks.

We need to see more Obama supporters coming to their senses.

Many, many more.

H/T to Bookworm, who opines for many of us:

I hope that Goodwin is not the only one to realize what's going on, and to allow himself to move forward into a future that does not include being a Democratic "yes" man. And I also hope that others who see the light realize that they will be welcomed with open arms into the fold of those who have already marched into the sunshine of political wisdom.

Dear Michael Goodwin:

What you see is your fault. You and the fools who fell for the bait and switch.

If you're truly contrite, in the next election vote against Obama and then have the good sense to never vote again, seeing what a hash you made of this one.

Great, Micheal - just now waking up to reality? Feel like a sucker? If only there was some way to have known what was going to happen before the elections. Oh, yeah, there were all those crazy "wingnut" websites and commentators, you know those lunatics that called Obama a internationalist, socialist, etc.

I usually wouldn't, but- we told you so, you dumb f*ck

Any one who listened to Obama, his actual words, not his sermonizing, his cadence, but his words when he said, "we are 5 days from fundamentally changing America" should now not be surprised. You might have asked what was he really saying? If you looked at his associates, the very Reverend Wright, Bill Ayers, a slew of Palestinian friends who hate America and call us imperialists, the fact that his past has been hidden from anybody who wonders who this man is, need I name more problems with Obama, why now be surprised? Obama is surprised that Chinese leaders put their country first. He is probably surprised that the Iranians still want to build a bomb so they can at long last wipe Israel off the face of the earth. Obama has no concept of country, of the fact that we expect a person at the helm who has an even hand and will stand up for us. The idealists, Obama, has been introduced to the real world of real people, and he is an obsolete failure.

We are going to go from 85% insured to 94% insured, turn the whole system upside down, give special favors to a few, and call it a victory. I think this President is flat out crazy with power, idealism, and ego like we have never see before. We are going to have to elect a very extraordinary person to clean up what he has done to us.

I sorry, but you guys are fools if you think that McCain would have been that much better. On the margins, yeah, but he supports the AGW crap, as well as much of the healthcare overhaul. If you think John "McCain-Feingold" would support Constitutional rights, think again. In other words, we are poorly served by our political class as a whole, and voting for the other guy is not a reasonable way of preserving what it is that makes America unique. We need a systemic overhaul, not a better class of power-hungry crook.

Altruism isn't evil. And it's voluntary by definition. What Marxists, socialists, etc, do is assert altruism, and then force their concept of it on you at the point of a gun. And then steal from everyone. That's about as far from altruism as can be imagined.

And the treatment he received at Copenhagen he will pass off as the world's attitude towards that evil USA - some country he is distantly connected to but not responsible for. And as for goodwins' regrets, bet he voted the rest of the dems into power and is he SURPRISED by how they are "governing"? Kroveechernila:

Okay, let's take a look at this. Just because he sounds like a lying fake fox news "liberal" concern troll doesn't mean he actually is one. Let's do our research lest the fine folks around here call me out on it.

Michael Goodwin in May 2008:
"Middle name Hussein is only one reason terror thugs like Barack Obama"
Michael Goodwin in August 2008:
"Barack Obama blinks in Hillary face-off"

Okay, I say. Maybe he was initially as anti-Obama as the most fire-breathing of conservatives but inexplicably had a chance of heart between August and November. Maybe I should hold off on calling him a lying fake fox news 'liberal' concern troll until I've got something a little closer to Novem- uh oh.

Michael Goodwin two weeks before the election:

Reason No. 1 why McCain still has a chance is the tax issue. Joe the Plumber put a human face on the perennial hot button, and McCain has seized on Obama's glib "spread the wealth around" comment to give himself a second chance on the economic argument. For nearly a month, McCain was stuck in a time warp, going after Obama on his connection to '60s terrorist Bill Ayers while most voters cared only about their dwindling finances. The disconnect gave Obama his first consistent lead over McCain. But taxes are a potentially potent weapon against Obama because he, like nearly every Democratic nominee in the last 40 years, wants to hike them. That he wants to do it in a recession is more than an economic mistake. It's a revelation about Obama's instincts."

Michael Goodwin in March of this year:
"More than a bad day: Worries grow that Barack Obama & Co. have a competence problem"
Michael Goodwin in August:
"President Obama's terror strategy puts America at risk"
Michael Goodwin in September:
"In Obama we trust ...less each day"
Michael Goodwin a few days ago:
"Barack has no deaf-ense for a tin ear"

Yeah, if it looks like a lying fake fox news 'liberal' concern troll, it probably is. This guy claims he voted for Obama? What a lying pos.

Brett, you make the common mistake of confusing altruism with charity. Please correct this misinformation. Altruism is evil, it is not a bastardized version of charity.

You have no notion what the word "altruism" means. All you need is a dictionary.

Altruism (pronounced: /ˈæltruːɪzəm/) is unselfish concern for the welfare of others. It is a traditional virtue in many cultures, and a core aspect of various religious traditions such as Judaism, Christianity, Islam, Hinduism, Jainism, Buddhism, Confucianism, Sikhism, and many others. This idea was often described as the Golden rule of ethics. Altruism is the opposite of selfishness.
