A spectacular crash in President Obama's approval ratings has occurred in the days following the defeat of a Republican filibuster against the health care reform bill in the Senate according to Rasmussen Reports:
For the second straight day, the update shows the highest level of Strong Disapproval yet recorded for this President. The negative rating had never topped 42% before yesterday. However, it has risen dramatically since the Senate found 60 votes to move forward with the proposed health care reform legislation. Twenty-five percent (25%) of the nation's voters Strongly Approve of the way that Barack Obama is performing his role as President. Forty-six percent (46%) Strongly Disapprove giving Obama a Presidential Approval Index rating of -21. That's the lowest Approval Index rating yet recorded for this President.
These numbers are particularly foreboding for Obama because Rasmussen focuses on likely voters, not just the average person on the street. Furthermore, this assessment of strong support or disapproval has shown to be more reliable over long periods of time because such opinions tend not to change much once established. The level of strong disapproval for this President at this point in time is truly staggering.

Staggering? Not to me.
There is a reason Democrats are jamming this Obamacare thing through. Obama still thinks Americans, deep down, really WANT "free healthcare", principally because he only listens to people who agree with him.
He thinks there's something wrong with the polls. It's the racists, the damnrepublicans, the special interests, Wall Street bankers, the Aryans and militias, Fox News and them Teabaggers who are all out to get him. It never dawns on him that even Democrats are giving him the angry finger. It never occurs to him that he might be wrong. He never considers that he won't be able to deliver another Golden Speech and change the harsh reality that he has squandered his political capital faster than any president in history.
When this monstrosity passes in the middle of the night before Christmas, oozing payoffs and special deals, he will proudly and disingenuously declare "Victory is OURS!"
I still remember Nixon declaring "victory" in Vietnam, right before he pulled the rug out from under our troops.
Nobody was fooled then, and nobody will be fooled now.

My understanding is that they will begin to collect taxes on this monstrosity before the actual bureaucracy is in place. Correct me if I'm wrong. However, if that is indeed the case, it appears to me that Barry can look like a deficit hawk while he collects all these funds early to pad the deficit. Alternatively, he's simply a liar and will use these taxes to feed some other program before the healthcare program is in full implementation.

Justrand and DaveD hit the nail on the head.
Since the taxes from this bill take affect now but the service (&cost) won't start for several years, Obama's plan is to start talking about deficits next year then... magically.. as the receipts for the new healthcare tax come in, he announces how he's reducing the budget shortfall just in time for Nov'10.
It's a good scam.
