Andrea Mitchell is Stuck on Stupid

The title of this post comes from remarks by Lt Gen. Honore at a press conference following hurricane Rita in 2005, when he was admonishing the press work with him cooperatively to communicate accurate information to the public for a change.

It kind of sums up my view of NBC. This morning brought another example, when Andrea Mitchell was on a panel on Meet the Press spouting unfounded opinions about a vast array of issues. Here's one that really got to me.

MR. GREGORY: Just be a little bit more specific, Andrea, whether we're talking about figures like President Obama or Sarah Palin, who you spent a lot of this year covering as well, as kind of this leading edge of conservatism at the moment. What happens?

MS. MITCHELL: What I noticed when I was out covering Sarah Palin when she was out on the book tour, at 4 and 5 and 6 in the morning on freezing days, when people had been out for hours, camped out with their kids because they wanted to see her, they are so hungry for a symbol for anyone who can give them answers. And in this case, she was just signing books.

All accurate so far, and if she had stopped there, all would have been well. But she didn't.
But there's an anger out there, and I have not seen it since my very first campaign, which was 1968 and George Wallace. And that is the angry populism which is not fact-based, it's just furious at everybody; angry at Democrats, at Republicans. The tea party has higher numbers in our last NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll than either of the other traditional parties. And that is what I think this news cycle which you referred to is feeding into, and that is what does frighten me. This spirit of America is so large and embracing, but there is an angry subtext because of economic dislocation that is very, very worrisome.

Tea parties = Ku Klux Klan. Right. Stuck on stupid.

I dunno, Charlie. I kinda agree with Mitchell to a point. I think she's right about the anger about all things Washington. Everybody I know that doesn't have an .edu email address is fighting mad right now, particularly after all the legislative and diplomatic "progress" we've seen this year. I know I'm pissed.

I don't know if the Tea Party Movement is actually going to attempt to field candidates in 2010 as a legitimate 3rd party, but don't think that would be a good idea. I worry it will split the conservative vote and put the Democrats right back into another term for more of the same crap we've seen in the past year. There's an old saw about the Republican party eating their young, and that's what I think will happen if the Tea Party and the Republicans don't join up and get serious pretty damn quick.

It's more important to me that a balance of power be restored so that we can have our country back than it is to end up with one or two legislators in Congress, like Bernie Sanders and the one man Socialist Party. The central problem is a Democrat White House, a Democrat Senate, and a Democrat House - which is a recipe for economic disaster.

I look forward to the start of the campaign season, when Democrats have to start actually worrying about finding new careers.

I must have been watching different news reports than you were watching. I didn't see anyone with a rad face at the Tea Party protests. I saw a lot of people petitioning their government for redress of grievances like those crazed fools who wrote the Constitution said that they could do anytime they wanted. Didn't see any spittle being spewed, either.

Back then? When? When the senate was populated with democratic KKK black haters? I think a few yet remain.

"What do angry, out of control teabaggers have in common with the KKK?"

Nothing! The KKK wanted to enslave and degrade people to the level of livestock or less.

Tea Partiers are trying to avoid being enslaved and degraded to the level of livestock or less by Big Government.

Getting back to Andrea....Is there really anyone who is happy about 3.6 million unemployed? At best we can now say that Obama's policies have done nothing to solve the problem and boost the economy.

At worst we can say hat his policies (like FDR's) have likely prolonged the economic downturn and have set the country up for possible bankruptcy and hyperinflation. We have nearly exhausted the world's financial resources to float our federal bonds. Our ability to borrow is at an end.

Regardless of how much blame one desires to place on GWB, the fact is that the economy is all Obama's now. The fact that it isn't going anywhere is his problem. GDP is stagnant. The market has gone up, but only in proportion to the expanding monetary supply.

People should be pissed. Even if you backed obama he has failed to deliver on this issue.

The only reason Mitchell wasn't forcibly retired 20 years ago was her marriage to the powerful Alan Greenspan. She was never terribly bright nor effective as a reporter.

To equate completely unrelated movements - the Tea Party uprising, the 1968 Wallace campaign, and the cowardly and criminal KKK - relies upon their one commonality: opposition to federal liberalism, which to liberals is the greatest sin of all, equivalent to racism, murder, genocide, and political incorrectness all rolled into one.

The tunnel vision of the leftist cannot draw any further distinction between those who oppose his desire to rule - hence the outrageous references to conservatives groups as "the Taliban of ..." by the left. If you don't agree to go along with the left, you are its enemy, and must be destroyed "by any means necessary."

At least Andrea Mitchell, unlike the liberal trolls here, seems to realize there is a problem. Also she seems to be smart enough not to use the "teabagger" slur, at least in public. When people find out what the term actually means, they are repelled. When they find out that the term is used by MSM "journalists" it helps them realize the extreme bias that exists there.

So there's your new mark to shoot for, liberal trolls. Try to be more like Andrea Mitchell. Or you could keep being your immature selves and keep helping the Tea Party movement.

To those above who keep mentioning the Democratic Party as the party of segregation, dredging up the 1940s, 50s, and even the freaking Woodrow Wilson administration, I have a rejoinder.

With the victory of the civil rights movement in the 1960s, the Democratic Party in the South changed. Former racist politicians either changed their positions (Byrd, Wallace), retired (Long of Louisiana), died (Russell of Georgia), or joined the Republicans. Like Lott, Thurmond, Helms, and countless others. Since Nixon's "Southern Strategy", the party of resistance to racial progress has been the GOP. I know it, you know it, and America knows it.
