The System Worked Again; 2nd Man Taken into Custody

Janet Napolitano will be pleased to know that the system worked again when a second Nigerian man was taken into custody after locking himself in the bathroom of a plane in Detroit. This was the same flight that was almost blown up on Christmas Day.

According to reports, the Christmas Day bomber locked himself in the bathroom for about 20 minutes before he came back to his seat and ignited the explosive.

Janet Napolitano said that there was no indication that the Christmas Day terrorist attack was part of a larger plot. She would be wise to wait and find out if this second man had any connections to Abdulmutallab before she repeats that line.

Update: More from Fox News:

Police have arrested a Nigerian man who reportedly became verbally disruptive and barricaded himself in the bathroom of a Detroit-bound Northwest Airlines flight on Sunday.

Several police vehicles and a police command unit have surrounded a plane at Detroit's Metro Airport, after the pilot of a Detroit-bound Northwest Airlines flight requested emergency help.

Two sources tell Fox News that the suspect boarded a plan in Lagos with no baggage, and said the FBI has already sent an email alert to other federal agencies notifying them of the incident.

The source said the man taken into custody at the Detroit airport was a Nigerian man in his 30s. Federal officials know who the suspect is, but won't provide any more details. He allegedly barricaded himself in the plane's bathroom for an hour.

The man said he was sick. I'm not inclined to believe him. He didn't have any luggage, just like Abdulmutallab. He was on Northwest flight 253 from Amsterdam to Detroit, just like Abdulmutallab. What a coincidence.

So what was the the big whine-fest about being arrested for being a Nigerian?

Sabre - In #20 you... (Below threshold)
jim m:

Sabre -

In #20 you said that he was arrested solely because of his race.

You asserted that anyone who thought he should be arrested was therefore a racist.

In #28 you again asserted that it was racism that got him arrested and then turned around and said that you weren't suggesting that he shouldn't have been arrested.

You cannot have it both ways. Either the ONLY reason for arresting him was a bigoted attitude by law enforcement, or he actually behaved in a way that warranted being arrested.

YOU are the one who said the only reason to arrest him was race.

YOU are the one who said that if he were white he would not have been arrested implying that his actions did not rise to the point of deserving arrest.

YOU are the one who then suggested that maybe he should have been arrested.

Your facade of moral superiority is slipping.

What is being suggested here is that his actions warranted his detention.

What is also being suggested here is that based on a legitimate profile of islamic terrorists he probably should have been subjected to additional security screening that, had it been in place, may have meant that he would not have been arrested for having what appears to have been a case of food poisoning.

"In #20 you said that he was arrested solely because of his race.

Yes, I did.

You asserted that anyone who thought he should be arrested was therefore a racist.

No, I didn't. Anything you think I asserted along those lines was your own fabrication.

I asserted that the fact that he was arrested solely because of his race showed that political correctness was not getting in the way of our nation's security when I said "You folks who keep talking about "political correctness" are talking out of your asses."

There's no sign that political correctness prevented him from being arrested.

"You cannot have it both ways. Either the ONLY reason for arresting him was a bigoted attitude by law enforcement, or he actually behaved in a way that warranted being arrested."

You're proving your a moron again, Jim.

He was arrested because he was Nigerian. He should have been arrested, given the circumstances.

All of which proves that political correctness isn't a factor.

Why you are so bleeping stupid is another matter.

"In #28 you again asserted that it was racism that got him arrested and then turned around and said that you weren't suggesting that he shouldn't have been arrested."

I didn't say racism got him elected you moron, I said the fact that his race got him arrested showed political correctness was not a factor.

How is this not suggesting that his arrest was not racially motivated? If that is not what you were saying then retract it and explain yourself. But you just keep doubling down like an idiot.

You clearly attributed his arrest to his race. You discounted anything else as a reason for his arrest.

"If he'd been white he wouldn't have been arrested."

Yes you did say that this was evidence that political correctness was not impeding his arrest, but the main point of other people was that political correctness prevented the terrorist on Dec 25 from being properly screened and it is preventing authorities in general from focusing their energies on people who are most likely to commit these sort of acts.

However, my point was that you claimed that the individual today was arrested solely because of his race and for no other reason. You claimed that if he were white he would not have been arrested. I claimed that following the 25th he would have been arrested based on his actions regardless. I have also stated that better profiling and scrutiny of people who fit that profile may have actually prevented his arrest by actually doing something to exclude the possibility of his being a terrorist. The fact that people conclude that his actions were those of a terrorist is sufficient proof that the public does not have any confidence in the measures that authorities are taking regarding airline safety.

You have to be one of the dumbest clucks around.
