Sarah Palin Will Join Fox News

Today we learned that Sarah Palin signed a multi-year deal with Fox News. She will be a political analyst and have the opportunity to host periodic Fox News specials. The Washington Post reports:

Sarah Palin, who regularly rips the media, is becoming a television pundit at a place where she's likely to feel at home.

A Fox News executive says the network will shortly announce that the former vice-presidential nominee is signing on as a contributor.

Palin, who resigned as governor of Alaska last summer, will appear as a commentator on various Fox shows. She will also host an occasional program that will examine inspirational tales involving ordinary Americans.

Palin will join Mike Huckabee as a Fox contributor who was also involved in the 2008 campaign. The exposure can only help Palin if she decides to pursue a 2012 presidential bid.

I don't see her running for elected office any time soon. She resigned as governor of Alaska because she couldn't govern due to all the nuisance and bogus ethics law suits from her hateful critics. If she runs for any office again she will just be targeted, again, by those same people. She made it clear the best way for her to affect change throughout the country is from outside elected office. Her deal with Fox News will help her do just this by giving her a significantly larger audience. At this point we don't know when she will begin appearing on Fox.

The bogus ethics complaints tactic only works in Alaska due to what many consider a poorly crafted law that required Palin to defend at her own cost. In all other states and in the Federal government an elected official's legal defense under similar circumstances is paid for by taxpayers.

Anyway, I look forward to seeing Palin on Fox. If liberals go bananas when Palin tweets they'll go berserk when she cuts loose on them in front of millions of viewers. Like her dad said, Sarah didn't quite, she's just reloading.

The Democrats will regret their continued attacks on her once she returned to Alaska. If they had called off the dogs, she would have finished her first term and probably would have run for a second term. Instead, they chose to make it financially impossible for her to stay. I don't know that the politically motivated legal attacks would be a factor, Kim, although you may be right. The problem she had was the overly permissive state laws of Alaska, which permitted any and all ethics complaints, no matter how trivial, to be filed, anonymously, at no cost to the complainant.

Federal law is a different set of rules, and our legislators have spent years insulating themselves from such legal potshots. Otherwise half our noble politicians would spend their entire careers in court.

I thought she was better insulated as a private citizen, because she had libel and slander as valid defenses.

All that said, Fox will give her the bully pulpit she needs to help us clean house next November. I hope she kicks butt.

Paul Hooson:

This sort of contract arrangement has some real pitfalls for Sarah Palin that can't be overlooked. It locks her into a contract that she can be sued for once she decides to quit. Further, it doesn't offer near the pay that hosting her own regular show could provide. And it probably effectively prevents her from building an effective campaign organization to run for president in 2012 as well. Further, it doesn't give Palin any opportunity to build a base of political support outside the core of mostly conservative FOX News viewers.

My best guess is that at least some of the ethics allegations against Palin might have had enough legs that by quitting as governor, it effectively ended any stronger case. It would be difficult to imagine someone who is entirely innocent of any valid allegations to freely give up their office. But regardless, Palin remains an erratic if not unfocused entity, and not someone who sticks with anything for very long. I only hope that Palin has some sort of an opt-out clause in her FOX contract once she quits that job to prevent a serious breach of contract suit.

I never really disliked Palin. But, I just found her to be a lightweight political entity compared to so many more serious politicians. I just don't quite understand her appeal myself. So someone explain it to me, please?

Jlawson:

She generates a whole lot of hate from the left for someone they're trying hard to portray as 'insignificant' politically. And as much as they try to justify themselves, it's pretty clear that it's hatred.

Take a look at some of the hysterics over in the Amazon forums for her book.

Amazon Customer Discussion over "Going Rogue".

There's people that'd give Andrew Sullivan a run for his money. Especially on her birth of Trig.

So, I was given a copy of Sarah's dopey book over the holidays (thanx for the xmas gift Aunt Marie *sigh*) and some friends and I read through it, laughing at the obvious lies and trying to count them all. It's a big job, I'm still not finished!

But anyway, IMO the biggest lie she has ever told - apart from the death panel one - is the birth of Trig. From the moment I first heard Sarah describe the "Wild Ride" home to Alaska to give birth to her son Trig, I knew it was a load of bull. No woman in her right mind would do something so breathtakingly stupid. Especially if they'd had a history of miscarriages - as she now tells us she did in her book. So, 44 year old Sarah got on a plane while 8 months pregnant (no good doctor would advise this) with a child she knew would need special care at birth to give some speech in Texas, and then ignored leaking amniotic fluid and labor pains in order to give the speech (while having contractions no less) and then flew home over 12 hours so that she could give birth in a small hospital with no neonatal care unit by a doctor who is not a trained OB? What? Give me a break! And Republicans praise this person as having good common sense?

I just don't believe it. I don't. No sane woman - never mind an obviously vain woman like Sarah Palin, the sitting governor of a state - would risk the chance that she might have to spread her legs and spill afterbirth, placenta , and everything else in public on a crowded airplane! Even I know better and I don't even have kids. I do know though, that birth is a messy business and once you are in labor there is no telling how things could go even if you've had previous pregnancies. That's why sane women go to the hospital the minute their water breaks.
There's folks over there posting practically non-stop anything they can to slam or discredit her, and you see the same people day after day after day.

If it ain't hate, it's something pretty obsessive.
