"Unusually High" Number of People on No-Fly Lists Trying to Fly to US

I heard on the radio a few days ago that the UK had raised their terror alert level. It seems the United Kingdom is finding that an "unusually high" number of people on their no-fly lists are trying to board flights to the US:

Two men were stopped boarding US-bound planes at Heathrow days before Britain's terror threat was raised to "severe".

News of the incidents came hours after Home Secretary Alan Johnson lifted the threat level amid fears that al-Qaeda is planning an attack.

The new level, which means an attack is reckoned "highly likely", is second only to "critical".

Security sources say an Egyptian was stopped last Saturday as he tried to board an American Airlines flight to Miami. A man from Saudi Arabia was banned from boarding a United Airlines flight to Chicago the next day and sent back to Saudi.

The incidents and the raised threat level follow the failed Christmas Day bombing on a plane over Detroit.

Anti-terror officials said the past week had seen an "unusually high" number of people on their no-fly list trying to board US-bound planes.

The Christmas Day bomber Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab said that there are more people like him in Yemen who are ready to strike US planes. Whether these unusually high number of no-fly listed people are those same people, we don't know at this point.

It goes without saying that we'd be in a much better position right now if we interrogated Abdulmutallab for more than just 50 minutes before he was mirandized. If he had been handed over the to the High Value Interrogation Group as was the standard procedure in this kind of situation, we'd know a lot more about these men in Yemen, like who they are, how they were trained, where they were trained, who was in charge of their training, and so on. Unfortunately, we are in the dark and we won't know anything any time soon unless the government gives him a deal in exchange for his information. In the mean time, all we can do is hope that other countries' terror screening protocols are better than ours.

Gee, maybe we should ask Eric Holder if it might be time to WATERBOARD the diaper bomber. As for the no-fly fliers. Are the Brit's making nice and just saying NO! Or are they shaking them down to see what they might have on them or in their luggage? Might this just be a 'see if you can get on a plane' test?

I always wonder how it is that people refuse to learn from history. Each and every time the American people become tired with war and elect doves to take over from the hawks our enemies eventually become emboldened.

Here is an example we can probably relate to in laymans terms.

You have the school bully, who is a general turd and loves his position of creating fear. He will continue to sow that fear among the school populace until someone stands up to him and gives him a smack in the mouth. American bashers, especially those facists in our own populace, will say we are that bully, but if the efforts in Haitai and every disaster that occurs has proven, we are the "good" guy in the world. We are the focus of that hate and jealousy because of our goodness and the example it sets.

When the Utopiost doves take over and start apologizing tours, and denouncing our past actions the only thing it does is send a message to the worlds cowards that now it's ok to start terrorizing the school again.

Your Hawks-Doves-Enemies proposition seems pretty half-assed.

All the American wars I can think of were presaged by a definite period of jingoism, war-drumming, or political battlelines being drawn (example: the dueling Democratic Conventions of 1860), often spanning 3 years or more.

Possible exception: WW1 regarding the USA, but Britain played us well and were already in a pissing match with the German Imperial Navy and implications of widening the Kiel Canal, etc.

As already pointed out, when median home prices in Detroit are less than 4,000 dollars the market damn sure hasn't far to go as compared to any market in Arizona.

FACT, I bought my first house in Detroit in 1971, full basement, two bedrooms with finished attic with fully landscaped front and backyards for the "princely" sum of 19,000 dollars.

That's what 40 years of democrap rule in Michigan has done.

2. obamanomics kicked in in early 2009?

Bryan you seem to have a grasp of history and so I ask, when has the "olive branch" ever been effective foreign policy? In passed times whenever the U.S. employs a policy of placation to foreign powers we always end up having to send in the guns. Jefferson attempted, like the rest of the world, to pay off Tripoli, but in the end it took the newly formed Marine Corp to put a stop to it. We tried to placate the British in order to continue trade, ended up going to war and FIRMLY establishing our status as an independent nation, though the Hawks did over reach a bit on that one going for Canada. If the Whigs and Northern Dem's would have worked harder to isolate Slavery and not cater to big business interests in the North with withering Tarrifs, we possibly could have avoided a Civil War. Lets skip to modern times Carter, very very emboldened, Reagan, enemies scared shitless and fall of Soviet Union, Clinton, again attack after attack culminating in 911, Bush, love or hate him, less. Now under the Messiah? You have to admit they feel more emboldened than ever, especially knowing that they will receive civilian trials and maybe a few years in relative comfort, compared to theirs, of American prison,

Unfort., ppl like you, who sit in the relative, safe comfort of America, really have no friggen clue what it's like out there in the rest of the world. Being here, in America, gives you the opportunity to postulate on Utopia and what it would be like if we lived in a Star Trek Universe. There are a lot of bullies out there Bryan and whether you like it or not, "talking" to bullies does not stop them from their behavior, it's only the threat of a fat lip and black eye that does and America is the only one that is able to deliver it. Now if you want to talk isolationism, well that's an argument, but as long as America is going to be a super power that is the role we have to play.

As far as I can tell those countries are all on one continent, but then again I may be giving you more credit than is due. Also you "lived" there during the good ole days of Communism...perhaps that was your indoctrination period?

Again here you forget that though conditions in these places may be horrible the fault lies squarly on the thugs who run the place and the people who live there. We were blessed that the men who started our country were the most selfless individuals in history, our responsibility is to provide an example that the people of the world can emulate. They are decreasing in percentage because of price increases, you moron.

An example for the circular crowd of right wing trolls:

Las Vegas

In November 08 prices had declined a total -31.6%

In November 09 prices had declined a total of -24.5%

For the price decline to have moved from 31.6% up to 24.5% the housing prices have increased a little over 7% in that one year period.
