The Maryland political blogosphere has gone berserk in the last 24 hours with the rumor that Sen. Barbara Mikulski (D) is planning to retire, adding to the Democrats' headaches about keeping control of the Senate.
Part of the problem is that so many Dems have been on the job for 30+ years and were'nt being replaced by younger guys, that they all come up for retirement at once. The Private sector knows of this problem, sometimes referring to it as a 'brain drain'.
I know that all of the Dems leaving aren't that old, but just saying.

If the TEA party continues to swell, and republicans get their head out, isn't it possible the NEW CONGRESS might go back and find out JUST HOW CROOKED the good ol' boys and girls really were?? Do I hear cell doors banging? They say new brooms sweep clean and there certainly is a lot of trash and dirt in the hallowed halls.

Almost the entire political establishment and party ladder system is designed to make sure you don't get to the point of actually holding office without having been compromised to the point that you can't actually blow whistles or pull plugs without destroying yourself, too.
In other words, "Here's the new broom, the same as (made from) the old broom!"
Can you think of any exceptions to that rule? How long did they last?
