IRS hit in Austin ...

... by kamikaze attack:

A plane crashed into a Northwest Austin building that houses federal offices about 9:30 this morning, sending plumes of smoke into the air that could be seen for miles.

Paramedics have set up a triage center at the scene, though it is unclear how many people are injured. EMS officials said one person was unaccounted for.

"We have no idea right now if there are any patients, or how many," Austin-Travis County EMS Assistant Director James Shamard said.

Mathilda Sanchez, a spokeswoman for the Seton Family of Hospitals, said University Medical Center Brackenridge received two patients, and that no other hospitals had received any.

The Internal Revenue Service has offices in the building, including its civil enforcement and criminal investigations divisions, said Special Agent Michael Lemoine, a spokesman for the criminal investigations division.

He said that some IRS offices are on the first floor, which Lemoine said was hit by the plane.

...

According to an FBI agent who asked not to be identified because he isn't authorized to release information, the incident is being investigated as an accident, although eyewitnesses said the plane seemed to come in at full throttle. He said the plane was out of Waco and that Federal Aviation Administration officials are en route to the scene.

FBI sources said that the eyewitness accounts saying that the plane did not slow down is making some authorities wonder if it was an intentional act.

Other reports are saying that the pilot's house was set on fire before the flight:

An NTSB official told Fox News that they are investigating this as an intentional act, and said it appears the pilot set his own house on fire and then got in his plane and flew it into the building. An NTSB spokesman, however, told FoxNews.com that "we can't confirm any of that."

Rush Limbaugh moments ago wondered if perhaps it was yet another liberal Obama supporting professor upset about being denied tenure.

My guess is that no matter who it turns out to be, this'll be blamed on a Tea Party activist and we'll be lectured by collectivist thinking members of the MSM on the perils involved with forcefully opposing Obama policies .

Any bettors?

At this point it seems likely the pilot had some problem with the IRS. Based on that I wouldn't hazzard a guess as to any political motivation. IRS problems are not confined to any one political party.

Before flying off the handle and making a whole series of assumptions about "what really happened," it might be a good idea to actually wait and see what the investigations turn up.

Just an idea, for Steve and anyone else who is prone to jumping to conclusions around here (and he surely isn't the only one around these parts who does that).

Blaming large groups of people for the actions of individuals like this is not only sloppy, it also removes any actual responsibility for the person who commits such acts. Yes, people do things based upon ideology, but they also make decisions that they should be held accountable for. We can't just assume that people who do these kinds of things are brainwashed automatons who acted in the name of some larger ideology or political motive.

Was he linked to the Tea Party? Was he some radical conservative? Did he live in the mountains and collect AK-47s and write sequels to the uni-bomber manifesto? Was he a filthy liberal? Was he a commie? Or a terrorist? Was he some crazy Marxist-anarchist with a room full of Che Guevara posters? Who the hell knows? Maybe he was just some guy who went off the deep end. Or maybe he really was part of the New World Order [gasp].

There's also evidence that the tea party folk clean up after themselves.

Getting rid of the IRS is not a viable option. Are you in favor of eliminating taxes all together or just the IRS?
