DesperadObama

This a day or two old, but it's no less pathetic.

Barack Obama's "Organizing For America" website has launched a new campaign to help his followers counter the success of Conservative talk radio.

Seems they don't particularly like the fact that people actually listen and pay attention to what they hear on these programs, especially when it has to do with the issue of health care reform.

Clicking on the link provides Comrade John Q. Liberal with helpful hints as how to respond to the host when discussing health care.

Here is just a taste of what is on the site:

    CALLING TIPS

  • Be polite, respectful, and clear. Remember, you represent Organizing for America.

  • How radio stations will connect you will depend on the show. Some radio shows may connect you right away, but most will take your name and basic info and put you on hold. You may or may not be able to hear the broadcast on the show while you're waiting. You may hear the radio host say something like, "Hello, we have your name on the line with us."
  • Some hosts may challenge your views. Stay calm and firm. Sharing a personal story about how health reform affects you and your family is a great way to show the importance and urgency of health reform.
  • If you can't get through, don't worry! If the show you call is busy or not accepting calls at the moment you call in, simply click "Give me another show" to find another.

DISCUSSION POINTS

  • These points are only to provide extra information and suggestions. Your personal story will make the most compelling message.
  • For most Americans, their health care plan covers too little and costs too much. Far too many people delay or even skip the care they need because they simply can't afford it.
  • The plan the President laid out includes the largest health care tax cut for middle class families in history and makes coverage more affordable for tens of millions of families and small business owners and expands coverage to over 31 million Americans who are currently uninsured.
  • This plan will give millions of Americans new choices in health insurance by making coverage more affordable, ending the denial of coverage for pre-existing conditions, putting power in the hands of consumers instead of insurance companies and providing one of the largest tax cuts in history while also reducing our national deficit.
  • Reform couldn't be more urgent - just this month consumers in California were told their premiums could go up as much as 39 percent.
  • Too many in Washington are now saying that we should delay or give up on reform entirely, but Americans understand the stakes for our economy and our lives, and we want action.

Note the "Your personal story will make the most compelling message."

You know, like the one during the Health Care Summit, where Representative Louise Slaughter told the story about one woman who had this harrowing, heart-tugging story: "Her sister died. This poor woman had no dentures. She wore her dead sister's teeth."

Sheesh.

Now, this entire exercise is a complete act of desperation on the part of what is supposed to be a continuation of Obama's media-savvy campaign. And, "let me be clear," this is still a campaign to them.

They may, in fact, get some of these brain-washed nerds to actually attempt this stunt. What they don't realize, since none have ever bothered to actually listen to these shows, is that the likes of Rush, Hannity, Beck, and Levin relish these types of callers. It's like leading sheep to the slaughter house, with no disrespect to sheep.

These are professional talk radio hosts. They have attained positions of success in their industry because they are adept at analyzing issues, conveying them in an informed, insightful way that is amenable to others, while thinking quickly on their feet.

And the brain trust behind "OFA" thinks coaching some faceless oafs to walk into an intellectual buzz-saw will produce results favorable to their cause?

Perhaps this is their way of instituting the "Fairness Doctrine."

NOBODY wants to hear what they have to say.

Proof? Air America.

More proof? MSNBC.

For corn's sake, Nancy Grace from Headline News beat Keith Olbermann's "Countdown" in the ratings for January. (I know. Keith who?)

The only possible explanation that Obama and his PR gurus could have for doing this is they are hoping that when one of these drones gets through, they will elicit from the host some sort of unflattering sound bite for them to disseminate to their buddies in the leftist blogosphere.

Which is pretty silly, considering they already do this by taking statements out of context and putting them forward as some off-the-wall proof that the host is just a big meanie.

Even The Daily Kos and The Huffington Post haven't touched this one.

I swear if this was almost any other politician (especially a Republican) the media would be utterly outraged at this web page OFA has put up. Can you imagine if GWB had put up a website with ready-made talking points for his supporters as to why our intelligence agencies need to be allowed to use enhanced interrogation techniques on captured terrorists and a detailed synopsis of all the UN resolutions Saddam Hussein violated since the end of the Gulf War along with quotes from liberal politicians who made the exact same claims that he had WMD and was an imminent threat? But seriously, the microphone with the Obama campaign logo on it is such a nice touch...

And liberals have the unmitigated gall to call the Tea Party movement an elaborate astroturf campaign. This new OFA initiative defines what astroturfing actually is all about - I am surprised they aren't offering cheesy Obama-branded merchandise (they can hardly give the stuff away anymore in stores as it is so this could be a way to get rid of all this stuff that is embarrassingly clogging all those bargain shelves in stores all over the country) for people who are willing to call in to these talk radio programs with these pre-canned talking points. Is it me or do others find it disturbing that Obama's supporters cannot be trusted to call in and defend ObamaCare and the alleged benefits it offers without being held by the hand? I mean, just wait for one of these morons gets on the air with somebody like Rush Limbaugh or Laura Ingraham. It won't be pretty because unless these callers have anything else to add to what has been provided for them the intellectual beatings will be brutal to listen to - entertaining but ultimately gruesome. Once their political hackery gets exposed the ugly name-calling and personal attacks will begin in earnest as it always does because in the end all that is all they have to offer.

To be honest, this could be a very risky strategy for Obama. If his supporters are that intellectually challenged that they need help formulating an argument is it beyond the realm of possibility that if they listened to some of these shows that they might begin to realize that The One and his fellow liberals have been lying to them all this time? They seem to be flailing quite a bit when it comes to strategy because wasn't it just the other day that Obama was chiding people for watching too much television news and reading too many online blogs? The damned truth keeps getting in his way as he tries to destroy (I mean, transform) the country...

Well, now, I wouldn't say that. In fact, listening to Limbaugh or Hannity deal with a liberal caller is a painful experience for me, precisely because they don't do any of that stuff. They resort to stereotyping, crude mockery, irrelevant blather, moving the goalposts -- any logical fallacy at all that will let them change the script to their standard schtick of "liberals are stupid, malignant, and the source of all evil."

Which is why this 'initiative' by Barry Lackwit is a complete waste of time. Conservatives don't listen to conservative talk radio to hear the liberal side of the argument, no matter how well it's presented. Most conservatives listen to conservative talk radio for one (or both) of two reasons:

1) to hear conservative principles vigorously defended; and

2) to hear liberals get verbally beaten to a bloody pulp.

After the caller gets by the required personal sob story and moves on to the discussion points, Rush, Glenn, Sean are not going to just sit there and not debate any of these points. I am willing to bet that at that point any liberal caller's challenge will collapse just like Democrat arguments did at the healthcare summit. Just a guess.

By soliciting people to make these calls the administration is essentially acknowledging that they are losing the battle of public opinion. For if they really were winning hat battle they wouldn't have to ask people to call up talk shows. They wouldn't have to provide talking points for discussion.

If this plan really were popular people would be calling of their own accord. People would be engaged sufficiently to come up with their own reasons why health care is important and this bill will work.

But they aren't. Tea Party protests still draw 100's if not 1000's. Opposition is wary, ready for the next attempt to ram through the bill in the dead of night.

There is a reason that talk radio is dominated by conservatives.
Conservatives own the facts.
Liberals can talk about their personal experience and feelings all that they want but at the end of the day the facts are always going to win out.

Obama supporters are either going to help highlight the deficiencies of the Democrat public healthcare plan or they are going to be converted through actually listening to the facts.

The number one Democrat falsehood about healthcare reform is that the Republicans don't want reform.

Republicans do want reform.

But Republicans want incremental economically sustainable reform that preserves the freedom and choice of the American people.

That goes against the Democrat aim of total control, which is inefficient, cost prohibitive, and bereft of any choices on the part of individual Americans.

BryanD - Off the meds again I see.

Take a look at the link above. What you will find if you bother to look at the graph is that Spending has remained relatively flat with the notable exceptions of the two most socialist presidents in history, Carter and Obama.

For all the grief that libs have given Reagan for his defense spending you will note that it only increased by 1% of GDP.

So who has spent like drunken sailors? Carter and Obama. (my apologies o sailors who in reality spend their own money and not that of others)

As for shredding the constitution, I might remind you that libs ranted and raved about the Patriot act and Obama campaigned on the "Fierce moral urgency" of repealing it, yet the dems just renewed it and they also stripped the sections barring humiliation of terrorists.

So your heroes are all frauds. Obama is just another socialist who believes in doing whatever it takes to get his way. He is not interested in right and wrong he is only interested in power and using it to gather more power and to enrich his friends.

Obama is spending money faster than any president in history. He wants to spend even more money by taking over health care. He says that it will reduce costs, but he can only do that by using 10 years of tax revenue to pay for 6 years of health care.

Dems are the one's shredding the constitution by trying to pass health care via reconciliation, an act that when W was in the white house they decried as being subversive to our democracy.

once again we see that morality and the law are only tools to be used at the convenience of the dems and discarded when they get in the way.

*For most Americans, their health care plan covers too little and costs too much. Far too many people delay or even skip the care they need because they simply can't afford it.

Rubbish.
If this were true then the Democrat healthcare reform plan would have support from most Americans.

*The plan the President laid out includes the largest health care tax cut for middle class families in history and makes coverage more affordable for tens of millions of families and small business owners and expands coverage to over 31 million Americans who are currently uninsured.

As of last week, not even the representatives at the C-SPAN summit had seen the "President's Plan".
To claim that it has "laid out" anything when nothing has been seen of it is a flat out lie.

*This plan will give millions of Americans new choices in health insurance by making coverage more affordable, ending the denial of coverage for pre-existing conditions, putting power in the hands of consumers instead of insurance companies and providing one of the largest tax cuts in history while also reducing our national deficit.

The plan, if anybody ever gets to see it, may give people new choices.
I think the choice between paying for a plan or going to jail is truly a new choice.
But new choices are not the same as having more choice or good choices.
The idea that receivers of a government program are consumers is ludicrous.
Just try telling the government you don't like what they're serving up and see how far you get.
The tax cut claim and reducing of the deficit is another flat out lie as we saw Paul Ryan point out at the C-SPAN summit last week.

*Reform couldn't be more urgent - just this month consumers in California were told their premiums could go up as much as 39 percent.

Everything is going up in California.
That's because California is imploding from bad socialist economic decisions.
Creating another socialist economic doondoggle isn't the answer to past socialist bad decisions.
California's wrong choices do not equal an emergency on the part of the entire American nation.

*Too many in Washington are now saying that we should delay or give up on reform entirely, but Americans understand the stakes for our economy and our lives, and we want action.

The only people that want to give up on reform entirely are the Democrats.
They are engaging in the polemic of total reform or no reform at all.
(and they want the reform bill to be secret from the public)
If the Democrats wanted careful incremental reform, starting with tort reform and the ability for insurance carriers to compete across state lines to increase market competition and lower costs, they could have had it when George W. Bush was President.

You can say whatever you want about Reagan, but the truth is that when Reagan was elected in 1980, inflation was running at 13.5 percent, the prime lending rate stood at 21.5 percent, unemployment and poverty were rising, real income and productivity were falling, and real economic growth had ceased.

So what did Regan do? He cut taxes to get the economy moving. Liberals howled in outrage. Yes, the democratic controlled congress and senate spent like there was no tomorrow.

So the deficit reached a peak of 6.3 percent of GDP not in 1986, but in 1983, when the "stagflation" of the Carter era finally broke. Six years later, in 1989, Reagan had cut the deficit by more than half, to 2.9 percent of GDP.

In dollar figures: From 1986's $221.2 billion high, the deficit fell to $152.5 billion by Reagan's final year in office, even as the economy grew at an average rate of 3.5%.

The Heritage Foundation estimates that had Reagan's policies been left in place after he left office, the deficit would have been wiped out by the mid-1990s. So there would have been no bankruptcy as you suggest. You are woefully ignorant of the facts. You have bought into liberal bs that exchanges historical fact for ideological bias.

So what happened? Why did the deficit not get erased? Bush 41 raised taxes, which lead quickly to a recession, erasing the economic growth the country saw under Reagan and opening the door for Bill Clinton to take office. Clinton reduced taxes and the economy took off again. We actually saw a budget surplus under Clinton.

I see that your response to the factual data I provided a link to was a nonsequitor about realID. So what? I don't agree with that either but it isn't relevant to the current discussion.

jim m:

Yes... and My graph was on the deficit, which is more relevant to economic growth.

I'll note that the site you link to claims that the debt policies of FDR got us out of the depression. That is something which the vast majority of economists today flatly deny. FDR's policies are viewed today as having prolonged he depression unnecessarily.

Regardless, my point was that Reagan's policies resulted in significant economic growth and had they been followed the country would be cutting debt and running a surplus.

A more serious issue is how much of the GDP is being consumed by government. While the federal government spent a lot under Reagan the percentage of GDP was relatively flat. Government spending is not productive spending. Government spending detracts from economic growth and as it becomes a larger part of the economy it becomes more and more difficult to create real economic growth.

Reagan may have spent a lot, but his policies resulted in economic growth that would have canceled out the debt.

The article you site states that FDR should have spent more. That's false. He had to stop spending because the economy continued to tank despite his failed economics. The economy got going because the war created actual productive use of resources and took millions of people out of the labor pool and shipped them overseas to fight. Nothing of what FDR did would have ever put that many people to work. His programs were all failures in that regard.

This is substantiated by the many fact that one of the reasons which drove passage of he GI Bill was a concern that the demobilization of the military would throw the country back into the depression. As it was 3 million became unemployed. Truman's popularity crashed.

I guess my secondary point is that you are unable to distinguish debt from deficit. You are unable to understand that government spending as a % of GDP is more important to economic health. Debt IS important to the extent that service on that debt reduces economic output. Service on Obama's debt will become a problem, but again, that will be reflected in the fraction of the GDP taken by federal spending.

You are taking information from sources that have a clear and obvious misunderstanding of how the economy works and lack historical grounding.

I can see the seminar callers now. They call in with their little sheet of talking points and their fake stories and when presented with a wall of facts (Hannidy, Rush, etc do this all day every day, They live for politics. it is their job and their life interest. ). It is like some smoe reading an article in popular mechanics and trying to have an intelligent conversation with a master mechanic about engines. In short the caller will be made to look like the fake fool they are and will probably do more to hurt their cause then help it. Anyone who is listening with an open mind will be presented with a professional on one hand and babbling buffoon with a sheet of talking points on the other.

Most likely their personal antedote will be either full of holes or else will show just how stupid the caller is and anyone with half a brain listening will be saying things like "Why should I pay for this idiot to have health care when his lungs were destroyed from his own crack use?"

In addition, if the lines were open then you get 10 callers saying basically the same thing. An open minded listener will be saying
"Gee this is like listening to the nightly news where EVERY broadcaster says something like "the increase in unemployment was unexpected today" WORD FOR WORD. Think back when Bush chose CHeney for his running mate and every other word out of the "News reporters" was gravitas. People dont fall for those games any more if they ever did.

"you can't get away with saying "Spending has been relatively flat with the exceptions of....Carter and Obama." Spending most assuredly was NOT flat during the Reagan or Bush2 years, and everyone knows it.

If you bother to read what I was posting you would have recognized that I was talking about spending as a percentage of GDP. If you bothered to click on the link and look at the graph you would have understood that.

I have not denied that spending went up. In fact I pointed out that it was a democratic congress that passed all that spending under Reagan.

I'm sorry that was Bruce Henry not BryanD (hard to tell the difference between the brain dead).

So Bruce if you would bother to follow along the fact is that the deficit was coming down dramatically at the end of the Reagan presidency. I did not claim that the debt went down. I actually understand the difference between the two.

Again my argument has been about the significance of federal spending as a fraction of GDP, that Obama has dramatically increased that ratio and that it has not gone up like this under anyone else in the last 50 years and that only Carter comes anywhere close.

The liberal posters are in a quandry on what to say.

Obama has not closed GITMO, He has extended the patriot act, he has built up Afghanistan, He is monitoring folks who use Cell phones without a court order, he cant get Healthcare passed.

I mean these are 5 things that liberals DID Not expect to be happening. They wanted no monitoring of US citizens, GITMO Closed, the US out of Iraq and Afghanistan a LONG time, the patriot act repealed and health care passed already. Yet Obama cant close the deal with super majorities in the House and Senate and a friendly press. Yet Bush was able to not only stay in office 8 years but get most of his agenda done with the dems in control of Congress for 2 years, control of half of congress for 2 more, a very very biased and a very very hostile press. Kinda tells you about Obama when he doesnt even come close to stacking up against Bush who was hated by the left and mocked as the epitome of incompetence.

Didn't see allies dumping out of commitments either, i.e. like the the Danish are doing by pulling the plug on their Afgan ops.

Yeah your right, the misery malaise of Carter and now Obama were and continue to be non-productive as well as downright stupefying.
