I'm being absolutely serious right now. Listening to his speech on Health Care, he states that the only reform that Republicans have offered are "deregulation" and "starting over." As every single person who has spent any time on the Health Care, that is simply a lie. He is also promoting reconciliation, which he said was tyrannical just five years ago. Also, he clearly believes that people in white lab coats make his case stronger.
With the lies and the unarguable hypocrisy, I truly must ask whether Obama is stupid. What person with a shred of common sense or decency would do these things? Or is he just playing politics (poorly)?
One can argue that, to be elected President, Obama cannot be stupid. Yet, if you look around, the President is constantly being advised. If he makes a speech, he is surrounded by teleprompters. And if he doesn't have advisers or teleprompters around, he sounds like an idiot.
But then again, he did get himself elected to the Illinois Senate and he hasn't always had a large group of advisers. Maybe he's just playing awful, awful politics, aggrandizing himself while squashing resistance and the American people in the process. And he still sounds good with a teleprompter in his face; he clearly knows how to read.
Yet, this could all be a ruse. Maybe he's a diabolical genius out to destroy the United States. I don't personally adhere to such a conspiracy, but hey, with this guy its possible.
So what is he? An idiot, some one who's lost his way, or an evil genius?

he's clearly not stupid, nor is he any sort of genius (does anyone really think we wouldn't have seen his grades if they were all A's?).
what he is is a demagogue ("a leader who makes use of popular prejudices and false claims and promises in order to gain power" -Merriam-Webster) steeped in the arts of (dishonest) persuasion and manipulation from masters of the art to the extent that he was actually tasked with teaching others these techniques - it is the one job that he has experience in, is comfortable doing, and can do without thinking (most of us can handle the everyday duties of our jobs without thinking too hard about them, even when thinking is part of the job, you don't have to think about what you should be thinking about, if that makes sense).
the troubling thing is that he seems unable to learn any new skills, every challenge to the fulfillment of his desire (that would be remaking America into a pseudo-socialist land of equality (not opportunity) as he was taught to desire pretty much from birth by communists, marxists, new-agers, racists, and, ultimately, left-wing terrorists and crooks in Chicago) is a nail and the only solution in his toolbox is a hammer called demagoguery.
look at it from his side - it's gotten him this far - why would he change now? when he has failed at every other job he has had (his own description, not mine) he has moved on to something else...he now finds himself sitting atop the pile without the skills to do the job and has no freaking clue what to do about anything so he does the only thing he can do - attack his 'enemies'. he's like the guy at work that somehow gets attached to jobs but never does anything while managing to take a bunch of the credit, then one day he somehow finds himself in charge, hasn't learned anything about the company because he spent his time working the system and trying to talk himself into his next job instead of learning the business, has no clue what do to when the first crisis comes up and starts attacking the people that said he shouldn't have been put in charge to begin with...face it...Barack Hussein Obama is Tommy Boy, only less successful. They each have only one skill...persuasion. I wonder if Obama is where he is because, what we saw at that GOP forum, is Obama doing the the ONE thing that he is good at!.
As has been noted, Obama had vitually no campaign experience, not to mention executive experience, when he ran. His toughest opponent so far (sure as hell not McCain) was Hillary, and it is worth pointing out that the Dems front-loaded their primaries, thus giving Obama one HUGE day after some early momentum, and then the entire primary story was of Hillary gradually gaining ground until the clock ran out on her. One more month, and she woulda won.
So now he is buffeted daily by questions and demands that he hasn't the slightest clue how to deal with, and boy does it show.
So, my bottom line is that he is between smart and stupid, but has no experience for his job at all, he has none of the flair that makes politics "an art, not a science", he has an appalling political tin-ear to anyone outside the academic left, and so far, I don't even see him growing into the job, like a JFK for example.
His election was for all of us the equivalent of waking up in Vegas next to a showgirl / Chippendale stripper with a cheap wedding ring on our finger, and then further finding out that this person is the last kind of person we would ever want to be married to to start with. I think it was on MSNBC Hard Ball where one of the guests pointed that JFK did not have a good first year either.
Tina, JFK didn't have a good first year, nor a good second year, and of course a really bad third year.
Liberal iconography has made him a latter-day Lincoln. In fact, JFK was a poor President, who nearly got us all killed. At the 1961 Vienna summit he sufficiently underwhelmed Khruschev that the latter concluded he was a weak and inexperienced naif (remind you of anyone?) and decided to put missles into Cuba to put him to the test.
In 1962 we came within an RCH of nuclear war with the Soviets to undo the damage attributable to JFK. JFK got our asses back out of a sling because we had a mole in the Soviet government who informed us that the Soviets would back down if we took a strong stand. But it was a close-run thing. My father, a Marine officer, was on a transport plane with his men, awaiting orders to go to war. (True story.) So that was JFK's second year.
And of course, there was 1963, his third and last year. He was in Dallas to campaign, because he considered his re-election chances to be iffy.
I won't even get into the steel strike, nor Vietnam, nor Laos. Suffice it to say that JFK's reputation lies largely from having failed to duck at the operative moment.

If you believe Obama actually believes the nonsense he spews is the truth, then the inescapable conclusion is yes, he is stupid.
If you believe he doesn't actually believe the nonsense he spews is the truth, then the inescapable conclusion is that he is a liar, but not necessarily stupid. Or smart.
All that said, I think he is a liar with a little bit of cleverness when it comes to manipulating others. Other than that little bit of cleverness I don't think he's very bright.
But then again one of my favorite ways to rile up a prog after he or she comments on how stupid GW Bush is is to say, "Or maybe you are stupid enough to believe his act."

Obama's not stupid, in fact he may be one of our smartest Presidents. Right up there with Herbert Hoover and Jimmy Carter.
Look, I applied to Law School and, while I'm white and din't enjoy an affirmative action bump even if I was I wouldn't have made it into Harvard. And my grades were nowhere good enough to make Law Review, let alone serve as Editor in Chief. So if you're just judging raw intellect, Obama probably usually is the smartest man in the room.
Obama's problem (and, with respect, where the "Obama is stupid" people are so off base) is he confuses knowledge with wisdom. Obama's smart, but he isn't the least bit wise, and he frankly doesn't even know what wise looks or sounds like, which leaves him rejecting a lot of bad advice to turn course until its pretty much too late. Kinda like Carter and Hoover, come to think of it.

Obamination is relatively intelligent but uneducated and uninformed, e.g., his mispronunciations of words like "Orion" the bright adolescent male knows unfailingly.
He's cunning enough to keep the military from alarm, ignoring Iraq, reluctantly pursuing Afghanistan(a campaign promise).
He is congenitally duplicitous, a fraud, a pretender by defect of nature. An emotionally abandoned child, his rejection by every one of his caretakers has resulted in a compensatory unbridled resort to self-esteem as his fundamental actuality, core truth.
He uses true description of outside reality to setup his listeners for the big lie, a description of his intent and behavior in diametric opposition to reality.
Obviously, this doesn't work when the scammed return, day in day out, to be played with the same tired game. Idiot savant.

Agree, Obama's problem is ignorance. As an undergrad, he attended Occidental College and Columbia, graduating WITHOUT HONORS with a degree in political science. And he won't release his transcripts, which means that he took gut classes and got bad grades in them. So he therefore knows nothing of economics, mathematics, statistics, physical sciences and the other things that would help him to run a modern technologically advanced country. For that matter, his grasp of softer subjects, such as history, is pretty tenuous too.
All of this said, I think Obama is bright, probably with an IQ of 125 to 130. What he does not realize -- because of his ignorance -- is that there are millions of people in the U.S. with a higher IQ than his, and far greater knowledge to boot.

I imagine he figures, just because half the people in the nation were dumb enough to elect him that he can go on with even dumber ideas because the simpletons will buy into them. Not so. When people get hit in the wallet, it makes those simpletons' freebies dry up and then they wake up and say, "What happened?!" That's when they convert from being dummies to well-informed citizens. They come to realize that NOTHING is free.
Obama's stupid in that he believes his own hype. One can't expect much more from a person who never learned from history what doesn't work.
