Obama and his pro-abortion supporters:
National Organization for Women President Terry O'Neill issued a statement Sunday afternoon slamming President Obama, saying that he had broken his faith with women by agreeing to issue an executive order that prohibits federal funding for abortions.
"The National Organization for Women is incensed that President Barack Obama agreed today to issue an executive order designed to appease a handful of anti-choice Democrats who have held up health care reform in an effort to restrict women's access to abortion. Through this order, the president has announced he will lend the weight of his office and the entire executive branch to the anti-abortion measures included in the Senate bill, which the House is now prepared to pass.
"President Obama campaigned as a pro-choice president, but his actions today suggest that his commitment to reproductive health care is shaky at best. Contrary to language in the draft of the executive order and repeated assertions in the news, the Hyde Amendment is not settled law - it is an illegitimate tack-on to an annual must-pass appropriations bill. NOW has a longstanding objection to Hyde and, in fact, was looking forward to working with this president and Congress to bring an end to these restrictions. We see now that we have our work cut out for us far beyond what we ever anticipated.
I look so forward to the battle.

Looks like Barry forgot to make a phone call to NOW telling them ahead of time that Bo is going to eat that executive order that he left laying around in the Oval Office. OOPS!

Stupak will vote for the bill and Obama's promise will expire the moment he signs the bill.
Obama will never sign that executive order.

Too bad abortion wasn't legally available in 1960. Stanley would've precluded the problem we have now.

"National Organization of Women" is concerned about abortion? Why? The only members of NOW who get pregnant do so through the agency of a turkey baster while they stand on their heads.

The point has been made in several places that the President cannot make an executive order that contravenes an act of Congress. So Obama's promise is (per usual) worthless.
Not only is he unlikely to ever sign such an order (please refer to Gitmo and DADT) even if he did it would be a magnet for lawsuits.
Heck, I am prolife and I would file just to thwart Stupak. Socialized medicine has killed far more world wide than abortion.

Looks like Bart Stupak just got a 'message' on how safe his House seat will be this November:
Susan B. Anthony List Candidate Fund President Marjorie Dannenfelser said the group was revoking its "Defender of Life" award to Stupak, which was to be awarded at its Wednesday night gala.
"We were planning to honor Congressman Stupak for his efforts to keep abortion-funding out of health care reform. We will no longer be doing so," Dannenfelser said. "Let me be clear: any representative, including Rep. Stupak, who votes for this health care bill can no longer call themselves 'pro-life.'"

Earlier this evening when it was first announced that he had caved his opponent had 1200 members, as of 8:53 eastern it has 6454.
Stupak is screwed and he can only blame himself.

Interesting and well worth a read: 35 states are planning HCR lawsuits. It only takes 33 to convene a constitutional convention.

Fake letter from NOW. Fake in the sense of their outrage, and fake because it would not surprize me in the least if Obama and the NOW gals have been burning up the phone lines all this week planning their little bit of theatre here.
They are together on all of this and no phony letter of purported outrage is going to lull me into thinking that BO's EO matters one bit.

I'm unclear on how this executive order thing works.
1: Did Obama just throw himself on the sword instead of the Senate just removing abortion from the bill?
2: If this flies, does this mean any President can tear up any legislation by issuing an executive order? If that's so, couldn't a pro life President override Roe v Wade?
