"they'll champion any number of cockamamie schemes to sooth their depraved consciences"

That from Matteo as he comments on this cogent American Thinker piece:

After the U.S. House of Representatives passed the Senate's health care bill (without changes because they could not craft and pass a bill of their own), House Speaker Nancy Pelosi proclaimed that the effort reflected American's founding declaration of "life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness."

Nothing could be farther from the truth.

A society that compels each individual to provide for the personal happiness of one's neighbor, which can come only from selling one's labor or one's private property, and then handing those earnings over by confiscatory taxes, is a society with less individual freedom or liberty. At the current bankrupting levels of benevolence that comprise Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security, this health care log will no doubt pulverize every bone in the camel. The destruction of our great nation -- what the enemies of America could not accomplish by war, we are doing to ourselves by misplaced compassion.

There's more... and it's a must read...

It's Godly wisdom... and it's saving grace...

Read it.  Digest it.  Pass it on.

Oh, I'm sure that Barry and company have an answer to our impending debt explosion. Look in the next few months for Barry to start touting a VAT as a 'cure-all'. After all, those sophisticated Europeans do it. You know, the same folks who've had a stagnating economy since the 1960's with perpetual 10% unemployment.

We cant have any of that bad 4.5% unemployment we suffered thru under boosh! No, Barry and his thug club are clubbing the economy to death like a helpless baby seal pup. And whats that stock market at again?

Most incompetent boob administration evah!

Even more ominous is if the government can require you to purchase something i.e. health care then does it logically follow that the government can also determine "who can and who can't purchase something"? Does that sound familiar? It sounds almost biblical to me. http://sosssn.blogspot.com/

When I heard that moment of Pelosi's speech I briefly forgot that rule about not wishing harm on others. For her to cite the Declaration of Independence as a source for a piece of legislation that creates an overwhelming dependence is beyond disgusting.

Madame Speaker and the political whores she manages would do well to go back and reread the Declaration paying particular attention to the part about the consent of the governed in preparation for lesson they will hopefully be taught in November.

Lets see. War on poverty, Failure. War on drugs, Failure. Equal Opportunity, failure. Welfare, Failure. workfare, failure. The only way the democrats stay in power is to give more money to the least productive members of society. Not to worry though, pretty soon there wont be any money to give. What then barry? Take my home away to give to some deserving crack whore? Martial law when the riots are country wide? Do you really believe that our fathers, mothers, wives, sons, daughters in the police and military are going to enforce your edicts? That they will put devotion to the one over devotion to their families? Put down the crack pipe. It's later than you think.

It's always been wiser to give fishing lessons than fish dinners. Give a man a fish dinner, and he's happy for an hour. Teach a man to fish, and he can eat for the rest of his life. Not to mention sitting in a boat drinking beer.

Oh. Excuse me. Fishing is about to be outlawed, isn't it? My bad.

I don't know about you guys, but I'm ready to join a march someplace.

Easy answer, Spire Corp reported in an SEC filing Thursday (Jan 14, 2010) that it would terminate 21 full-time employees -- representing approximately 9% of the solar equipment manufacturer's workforce -- to reduce operating expenses and improve cost structure. Spire expects the layoffs to be completed by the end of March.

Meanwhile:

Spire Corp. announced last week they will invest $ 55 million to build a solar panel factory in the prison in Otisville, New York.
*****
The solar panels manufactured by the prisoners will be used for government facilities. If this project succeeds, it could be replicated in other prisons."
Layoff law biding citizens on one hand and spend 55mil so criminals get "gainful employment."

In case you're not aware of it, the marxist turd van jones championed this idea.

GarandFan:

Ooops! Pelosi was right! They had to pass the law in order find out what was in the law:

According to a report by Congress's Joint Committee on Taxation, the individual mandate in Obamacare lacks any real enforcement mechanism:

The penalty applies to any period the individual does not maintain minimum essential coverage and is determined monthly. The penalty is assessed through the Code and accounted for as an additional amount of Federal tax owed. However, it is not subject to the enforcement provisions of subtitle F of the Code. The use of liens and seizures otherwise authorized for collection of taxes does not apply to the collection of this penalty. Non-compliance with the personal responsibility requirement to have health coverage is not subject to criminal or civil penalties under the Code and interest does not accrue for failure to pay such assessments in a timely manner.

olsoljer:

But since it is overseen by the IRS, and the IRS can keep your refund, raising taxes then offsetting them with tax breaks gives the IRS a hell of a lot of more money to keep does it not?
