It's always been a puzzle to me why the Democrats have fixated on 'race'. During the Civil War they were all for brokering a peace with the south, even accepting that slavery would continue. Their party was a major roadblock to civil rights legislation. Northern Democrats willing to accede to the wishes of their southern brethren in order to maintain a cohesive front with the Republicans. This didn't change until the election of John Kennedy, and only because the black leaders confronted him during the nominating convention. They were tired of all the 'promises' and wanted to see concrete actions. The inference was that the Democrats would no longer be able to 'count on the black vote'.

You never mention once that even though ideology is involved that they still are racist.

In that earlier article, I went to great lengths to trash the CBC. I highlighted their double standards by pointing out that simply being black wasn't enough for membership, nor being liberal and representing blacks; both had to apply.

And why did I choose this particular example to discuss? The simplest of reasons: it happened right in my face. My disgust with other racial separatist movements is more abstract; I've never had any direct dealings with them. These three assholes were right in front of me, and I had to pass within a couple of feet of them. And it was still fresh in my mind.

I also tend to take these assholes more personally than the rest. As I said, they are claiming to represent me, my ethnicity, and that really, really pisses me off.

I don't speak for anyone else, and no one else speaks for me. And I will "get in the face" of anyone who says they're speaking or acting on my behalf.

So yeah, Wayne, I take it personally. I shouldn't have in your case, though. Sorry.

I'm a real minority in the Portland, Oregon grocery business, being White. But I'm a little upset at some race-based discounts that some distributors like Coke offer to some organizations only open to members who are members of certain groups. That seems like an illegal practice to me.

every neighborhood I lived in growing up was VERY mixed EVERYTHING. The one I lived in for my last year of High School and first two years of college was 90% Black. I had friends, and "not-friends" of every color.

I spent 8 years in the Marines where the only color that mattered was GREEN!

I've lived among diversity my whole life, still do. I still don't understand what's so about offensive my posts that you want to wash your eyes with soap and water. You haven't explained it.

Consider for a moment the comments of a number of people here. The result of dems calling everyone under the son a racist is that people are ceasing to care about those who actually are racist.

Think about it. If I have not harbored animosity toward minorities (or specifically against blacks) and have not ever discriminated against them in my actions and yet I am called a racist for my political views, how am I to respond? Initially, it is denying any and all such allegations. But as time goes on and more and more people find themselves called racist for their views on non-racial political issues at some point they stop caring about actual racism.

As the saying goes "One might as well be hanged for a sheep as a lamb". If I am to be hanged for the lamb, what should I care for the man who steals the sheep? If my punishment is the same as the real racist then why should I care about people really being racist?

The unintended consequences of the left calling everyone racist is that those of us who aren't really don't care to stop those who are any more.

They see racism around every corner. They want to spend their time fighting racism where it isn't? Let them fight those who are racist on their own. Maybe by letting real racism go they will learn again what it really is. No I would not stand by and watch someone being beaten or hurt physically. But I no longer care about people hanging nooses in school libraries (hell that's usually the left anyway) and shouting epithets(usually the left as well).

Racism used to outrage me. Now I just fell it is the left's comeuppance. If that makes me racist then so be it. I've been called one so many times now it doesn't matter to me.

Personally I have little problem with someone being proud who they are which includes white and males. However it can be overdone very easily. Outrage should be consistent though.
