Because if it prosper, none dare call it treason.
Treason is such a serious charge, and so often abused in the annals of history, that the Delegates to the Constitutional Convention codified it in the Constitution itself:
Treason against the United States, shall consist only in levying War against them, or in adhering to their Enemies, giving them Aid and Comfort.Constitution of the United States
Article Three Section 3
It is thus unique amongst crimes in the United States, both in being defined in the Constitution and having its standard of proof ("No Person shall be convicted of Treason unless on the Testimony of two Witnesses to the same overt Act, or on Confession in open Court.") set there. It is not a charge to be made lightly.
If true, this allegation rises to that level:
SOS - RED ALERT - New York Times About to Put American Troops in Deadly Peril
By Brad Thor
Big Journalism
I have just received word that the New York Times is preparing to go public with a list of names of Americans covertly working in Afghanistan providing force protection for our troops, as well as the rest of our Coalition Forces. If the Times actually sees this through, the red ink they are drowning in will be nothing compared to the blood their entire organization will be covered with. Make no mistake, the Times is about to cause casualty rates in Afghanistan to skyrocket. Each and every American should be outraged.
As chronicled here, here, here, and here the Central Intelligence Agency via the New York Times has been waging a nasty proxy war against the Department of Defense over its use of former military and intelligence personnel to do what the CIA is both incapable and unwilling to do: gather the much needed intelligence that keeps our troops safe.
...
These morbidly conjoined twins [the executive bureaucracy of the CIA and the NY Times] have entered dangerous territory. They are not only putting at risk the lives of the brave men and women working day and night to keep our troops safe (who, along with their families, will surely be targeted for retribution by al Qaeda and the Taliban), but they are also calling down a host of legal woes via the Intelligence Identities Protection Act (made famous in the Valerie Plame affair under the George W. Bush Administration) as the intelligence gathered and reported on by the Defense Department operatives in question is most definitely classified.
To be clear.
If the NYT does indeed publish this, the source(s), reporter(s), editor(s), and Publisher(s) will have committed Treason against the United States.

Probably the biggest irony here is that liberal idiots in journalism programs won't be able to figure out the irony.

We'll see. I would be surprised if the NYT does this - because even Mr. Soetoro won't be able to dismiss this one. It plays too well into his critics (richly-justified) complaint that he is weak on national security, so he will pretty much have to throw them under the bus. If they think their past association/collaboration will buy them a pass, they haven't been paying much attention!

During the Vietnam war "Pinch" Sulzzzzzberger was asked, "If an American soldier meets a North Vietnamese on the battlefield and they shoot at each other, who do you think should die?"
Pinch said, "The American, because it's not his country."

If Barry thinks it will be a threat, of course. He's shown absolutely no hesitation to screw over former allies in the past. Besides, they are mostly white and Jewish, so in the mind of our "community organizer" they are the "real" enemy and expendable anyway. His spiritual leader said so!
