Blood on their hands ...

"White supremacist 'stabbed and beaten to death by his black neighbour' in Mississippi town"

A white supremacist lawyer was stabbed and beaten to death by a black neighbour who had done yard work for him at his home in Pearl, Mississippi.

A preliminary post mortem showed Richard Barrett, 67, was stabbed multiple times in the neck and bashed in the head, Sheriff Ronnie Pennington said.

He had burns over 35 per cent of his body, though investigators believe he was killed on Wednesday night and his house set on fire Thursday to cover up his death.

Pennington did not disclose a motive but said neighbour Vincent McGee, 22, was charged with murder on Thursday and deputies charged three other people in the case on Friday.

... Barrett traveled the country to promote anti-black and anti-immigrant views and founded a supremacist group called the Nationalist Movement. He had a knack for publicity but little real influence, one expert said.

'Richard Barrett was a guy who ran around the country essentially pulling off publicity stunts,' said Mark Potok, who monitors hate groups for the Alabama-based Southern Poverty Law Center.

'He really never amounted to any kind of leader in the white supremacist movement.'

His body was found on Thursday morning after neighbours saw smoke coming from his house in a rural area of Jackson.

Why would a relatively ineffective white supremacist be killed, and why now? After digesting weeks of analysis and commentary from mainstream news media and pundits, I think I can answer those questions pretty accurately.

Obviously, someone has been stirring up hatred and resentment against middle-aged white people, a/k/a "Teabaggers," accusing them of racism, sedition, and generally posing an existential threat to all decent, freedom-loving Americans. A member of the minority community was provoked by all the anti-white rhetoric that has been swirling around the air waves and decided to take matters into his own hands. Naturally the blame for Barrett's death lies squarely on those who have been openly hostile toward middle-aged whites.

I'm sure Keith Olbermann and Rachel Maddow are on a plane to Mississippi right now, preparing to investigate examples of outrageous rhetoric that drives the unstable among us to commit violent acts.

I'll post links to all the MSNBC coverage as it airs...

He was obviously exploiting that poor young man by hiring him and paying him to do yard work, creating a predatory employer/employee relationship that could only have led to violence.

Seriously though, I wonder about that "had done yard work for him at his home" tidbit. How long did that last? How well did they get along?

It's hard not to think that a white supremacist hiring a black man to do yard work has got "this can only end in tears" written all over it.

Always a hoot to hear Potok of the SPLC pontificating on "publicity stunts."

The man has no legal or law enforcement background and yet the "law center" pays Mr. Potok $143,000 donor-dollars a year to write fund-raising propaganda and get it into the mainstream media as "news". http://wp.me/pCLYZ-C

Publicity Man Potok must be doing something right. Last year the SPLC took in over $31 million donor dollars.

With that kind of return on investment, the SPLC ought to pay Potok a heck of a lot more.

Lose-lose situation.

White supremacist hires black guy to do lawn work. If he hires him he is exploiting the black man because of his race. If he doesn't hire him he is discriminating against the black man because of his race.

I'm sure if this gets on MSNBC it will be couched in how the victim provoked the attack by his rhetoric. Just another example of liberal violence that will be ignored.

I'm sure he only hired a black man so he could avoid hiring a Mexican.

Yeah, the dems have lots to say about how dangerous conservatives are for threatening to vote them out of office, but when a radical muslim threatens to cut the heads off of the creators of South Park, we hear nothing.

Basic dog training maxim: Behavior you reward will be repeated. Dems are rewarding violent muslim behavior and punishing peaceful conservatives. Idiots.

On the one hand I'm not sorry to see the scumbag white supremacist lawyer dead. On the other hand he had nothing to do with any tea party I have interacted with, and if that is this guys reasoning he's an idiot.

We have to wait for the facts before we leap to a rushed conclusion.

To be a hate crime, the victim must be black, gay, lesbian, trans-gendered, or a Democrat politician.

It's in the law, clearly written in invisible ink.
