Bus Bomb A Bust

Well, as I predicted (and hoped), the bomb scare on the Greyhound Bus in Portsmouth, New Hampshire ended uneventfully. One passenger was taken into custody, the rest of the passengers and the driver were freed without incident, and -- as of now -- no actual bomb has been discovered.

There are reports that the passenger taken into custody was not very fluent in English, that a translator was needed, and agents from ICE were on the scene. It may be worth noting that the Portland area is home to a sizable community of refugees from the Sudan and Somali.

Yeah, that's right. Somehow, a large number of refugees from Saharan Africa ended up in downeast Maine. As if the culture wasn't enough of a shock, they also had to adapt from equatorial climes to New England winters. Poor folks...

Anyway, if you're going to play the odds, if someone is from Portland and speaks English poorly or not at all, the strongest likelihood is they're Sudanese or Somali.

I expect to post no more than one more update on this story -- but as I expected, it's turned out to be much ado about nothing.

Thank heavens.

What difference does their race make? Why are you spending so much effort explaining their race?

Because they're black?

If they were Irish or Italian would you have spent three paragraphs on their race?

Let's see... the picture shows the guy taken from the bus was black. It also says that Immigration and a translator were brought in. I shouldn't mention that the bus is from an area with a sizable refugee community from the Sudan and Somalia? And that it's interesting that lily-white, wintry Maine is home to a bunch of people from equatorial Africa? That they are dealing not just with cultural shock, but climatic? And noting that in a sympathetic tone?

I visited Florida once, in the middle of summer. No, thanks.

Oh, hey, Lee, I also wrote an article about how there's a sizable Hasidic community in northern New Hampshire, ironically in the little town of Bethlehem, NH. Does that make me anti-Semitic?

Oh, dear. Lee busted me for SPECULATING. Well, duh. That's what I do all the time. I speculate, then explain why I think that. And guess what? I'm often right. Not always, but quite often.

The last time Lee engaged in speculating, it was when he dismissed the Times Square bombing as an act of Islamic terror and said it was done by right-wingers. Still standing by that one, Lee?

Lee's doing a remarkable job of keeping me from writing fresh material. But not any longer this morning...

Does anyone else find it surprising and interesting that there's a large Somali/Sudanese refugee population in Portland, Maine?

And the reason I spent "half the posting" on the subject is because it interests me and is complicated, Lee. I understand you have issues with complex matters, and can't comprehend that I'd see that group in Maine and be interested, not horror-stricken...

But that's not the subject of the post. The subject is the bus and the possible bomb on it.

In writing the story you couldn't help but make up a fact - that the suspect was an African.

You then proceed to spend more than half the article trying to reinforce in your reader's mind that the suspect is African -- when there was no factual basis to make that assumption.

But in your mind, you couldn't escape your preconceived invention that this was an African with a bomb. BOOOOga booga booga - look, a black man trying to blow up white America!

Was it Jay? Was the man a refugee from Sarahan Africa?

Lee, I seem to remember not long ago that you made up a few facts.
The suspect was white
He wasn't a muslim (because he didn't elect for a suicide bomb)
That he was a right winger

The pot and kettle have both disavowed any relationship to you at this point. If only because you'd call them both racist for calling each other black.

Lee Ward:

"Lee, I seem to remember not long ago that you made up a few facts. The suspect was white"

No, I didn't make that up - that's what the video being circulated at the time was showing, and that was the statement of Mayor Bloomberg at the time.

In fact, I was commenting on Jay's post - where he wrote:

Among the videos gathered so far is at least one that shows the would-be bomber. A white male in his 40's is seen leaving the scene, shedding his outer shirt, and looking back at the bomb vehicle.

You see, Jay has lied about what I said repeatedly. It's understandable how you could have a misconception about what I said. You listened to Jay Tea.... you beliveed him when he said I made that up.

"He wasn't a muslim (because he didn't elect for a suicide bomb)"

Another lie from Jay - I said the M.O. didn't fit the Muslim suicide bomber.

Her's exactly what I said:

It wasn't a suicide bomber - not the Muslim MO, but feel free to completely ignore that.

It's more along the lines of McVeigh - the white "terrorists" don't go in for the whole suicide martyr thing.

"That he was a right winger"

Nope, never said that either. Jay says I did, but go ahead and try to find it. You won't, or at least - I can't.

"Lee, I seem to remember not long ago that you made up a few facts."

Nope, Jay lied and you believed him. In fact he's repeated that lie over and over again in he last week. That's Jay's MO.

I'm so glad you gave me this opportunity to clear up the misconceptions people may have resulting from Jay's repeated lying, SCSI. I never said what Jay claims I said. He's has all of the appearances of being a pathological liar who targets whatever group he wants - Me, Liberals in general, Saharan Africans for that matter, and then smears them with lies and innuendo.

The reason I'm going to such lengths to prove Jay is a liar is because he's repeatedly challenged me to do so. "Repeatedly" -- as in every thread I've commented on in the last week.

No, Lee, I read what you wrote.

"And that makes me think of those groups who hate Americans in general..."

Or hate the black president so much they want his administration to look bad. That's even more plausible given the uprising of white supremacist groups recently -- and the fact that, uhm -- the guy is white.

It wasn't a suicide bomber - not the Muslim MO, but feel free to completely ignore that.

It's more along the lines of McVeigh - the white "terrorists" don't go in for the whole suicide martyr thing.
