Well, as I predicted (and hoped), the bomb scare on the Greyhound Bus in Portsmouth, New Hampshire ended uneventfully. One passenger was taken into custody, the rest of the passengers and the driver were freed without incident, and -- as of now -- no actual bomb has been discovered.
There are reports that the passenger taken into custody was not very fluent in English, that a translator was needed, and agents from ICE were on the scene. It may be worth noting that the Portland area is home to a sizable community of refugees from the Sudan and Somali.
Yeah, that's right. Somehow, a large number of refugees from Saharan Africa ended up in downeast Maine. As if the culture wasn't enough of a shock, they also had to adapt from equatorial climes to New England winters. Poor folks...
Anyway, if you're going to play the odds, if someone is from Portland and speaks English poorly or not at all, the strongest likelihood is they're Sudanese or Somali.
I expect to post no more than one more update on this story -- but as I expected, it's turned out to be much ado about nothing.
