MSNBC's Contessa Brewer decries "outdated bigotry"

All while practicing some bigotry of her own.

Liberal projection.

She has no idea that she's practicing that which she claims to abhor.

Someone ought to smack her with a cluebat.

H/T to Ed Morrissey who gets to the point:

Yes, Contessa, there does seem to be a lot of people who want to "justify writing off people who believe in a certain way" as either terrorists or racists. Your network employs more than a few.

Some things are only undertaken by the uninformed, the foolish and the immature. Iin this clip Contessa is demonstrating that she's part of that demographic.

When you're flat on you ass in a mud puddle, soaking wet and filthy, trying to convince everyone looking that you planned it that way is, at best, foolish. Similarly, trying to sound intelligent, informed and connected when you are not generally is less than successful.

Not even a good effort. I grade her performance with an F.

This link to a CNN article is not directly related to the topic of this article, but does relate to bigotry. The leader of the church group that protests at military funerals use to be a brilliant civil rights attorney during the 60s. It's an interseting article, I was quite suprised and thought you guys would be as well.

Eric:

FYI Tina S, it doesn't say it in the CNN article, but Fred Phelps is a life long Democrat.

In my experience over the years, the vast majority of the bigotry and racism I have observed came from Democrats and Liberals, not Republicans and Conservatives.

Two cases in point.

1) Yesterday 5 students in California were sent home because they were wearing American Flags on their clothes on Cinco de Mayo. The justification from the administration was that it was incendiary.

Here's the thing, the 5 students weren't accused of inciting violence the fear was that their clothes MIGHT incite a violent reaction by the Mexican students.

To me that shows a racist attitude toward the Mexican student that the administration would assume that the Mexicans would be the instigators of violence.

2) In Ann Arbor Michigan an elementary school principal arranged a blacks only field trip. White students were not allowed to participate. That is discrimination based solely on skin color. There is absolutely no justification for that.

I'm not implying that all Democrats and Liberals are bigots and racists, but it is important to point out that bigotry and racism is alive and well on the Left.

Tina S -

Not sure what happened to Fred Phelps and his 'church' - but a more concentrated example of hatred for their fellow man would be hard to find.

Guess it goes to show - it doesn't matter what you label yourself or your organization, what matters is how you act.

(And I fully expect the "Hello Kitty! Liberation Front For the Advancement of Asian Cultural Icons" to be car-bombing Cartoon Central any day now...)

Tina S:

I'm embarrased to find out Fred Phelps is a life long Democrat who voted for Al Gore (in the primary, don't know if he voted for him in the general election). I would have bet on him being a social conservative republican.

Talk about bigotry, according to wikipedia this guy is anti-gay, anti-Semitic, anti-Catholic, anti-Swedish (he runs godhatessweden.com), anti-Irish (he runs godhatesireland.com). Yet during the 60's he playe a significant role in the civil rights movement, how bizarre.

I appreciate your comment McGehee. Being that Fred Phelps is equally hated by the left and right I didn't expect it to generate any controversy. I even thought some may use it to brand him as an NAACP supporting liberal.

Tina, the Phelps family is ... (Below threshold)

Tina, the Phelps family is wonderfully bipartisan -- EVERYONE thinks they're assholes.

In that sense, they remind me of the Nazis. Each side wants to push them into the other side's camp, and argue endlessly about who "owns" them.

In both cases, I reject the argument. To me, both groups are outside the conventional left-right paradigm.

Eric:

JT, you are exactly right. We have all been indoctrinated into thinking that politics are linear, Left vs. Right and all point in between. But really politics are more 3 dimensional. That's why people have a real difficult time categorizing Fascism. It doesn't fit neatly in the Left/Right paradigm. It is a completely different direction from Left or Right.
