I can't begin to figure this one out so I'll just quote the story from Politico.
The Department of Homeland Security told congressional officials Wednesday that it's moving to make cuts in anti-terror funding to New York City, less than two weeks after cops helped thwart and attempted car bombing in Times Square -- an effort the White House has since pinned on the Pakistani Taliban. In the wake of the failed Time Square bombing, this doesn't seem like a well-timed decision. Even Chuck Schumer (D-NY) agrees. The cuts, lawmakers were told, amount to about 25 percent for port security, and another 27 percent for transit security, according to several reports.
It "just makes no sense at all, particularly in light of recent events," Sen. Charles Schumer told cable station NY1's "Inside City Hall." "The worst nightmare we probably face is some kind nuclear device placed in a container in the ship in the harbor and exploding ... we need all the help we can get."While Schumer doesn't blame Obama, it is ironic that Obama is making a photo-op appearance in NYC today. Given the breaking developments in the Time Square bombing case, this also seems like an ill-timed decision.Schumer criticized the cut, but didn't blast the president -- saying Obama understands the need for the funds and blaming Washington bean-counters.

Yep. The truth is that when you include stimulus money given to New York for security purposes - - New York got $47 million more than last year.
"Yeah, that's great 'security', achieved by 'temporary' money. So how long is this 'temporary security' supposed to work?"
A year. It's an annual budget process.
If and when New York does indeed receive less then you nutcakes may have a point - until then, you're wrong as usual.

I don't blame Obama for this - it's Congress. The major cities, especially NYC, SHOULD get the lion's share of anti-terrorism funding, both for federal presence and local initiatives. As it is, in order to get the appropriation through, nearly every state and congressional district has to get a share of the pie, needed or not.
The little town (pop. roughly 12,000) hosts our County airport, a small facility which can land most smaller jets, but doesn't see much activity. Homeland Security included a grant of nearly $500,000, half of which was used to install a fence around the property, which is the stupidest waste of money since a terrorist can still just drive up to the terminal - no guard, no gate. The rest was used to improve the runways; how this helps stop terrorism is beyond me.
Obviously, what is being "cut" is NYC's share. Odd that Lee suddenly doesn't see this - he has seen every proposed reduction of a spending increase on social programs as not only a "cut," but an unconscionable one, since the day he got here. But I guess part of being a lying leftist is not being a slave to consistency, eh?

Stimulus money was supposed to stimulate the economy. Thanx for admitting this money is being used improperly. It's a blatant admission that the government is using it as a slush fund to make up shortfalls elsewhere. And it's not the first instance.

Boy, nobody's gonna pull the wool over your eyes, are they Oyster? And this is just the tip of the iceberg. A bunch of that stimulus money went to education projects. Instead of stimulating the economy they're building schools and hiring teachers. A bunch more went to transportation. Instead of stimulating the economy they're fixing roads and building light rail projects. They gave a big chunk to defense. Instead of stimulating the economy they're repairing and modernizing facilities and infrastructure. They doled some out to housing. Instead of stimulating the economy they're repairing and insulating houses. Then there's the money they put into environmental projects. Instead of stimulating the economy they're building water treatment plants and cleaning up waste sites. The list goes on and on.
It's clear that almost all that stimulus money just went to building stuff and hiring people instead of stimulating the economy.

The original post laments cuts in funding.
When that turned out to be false -- and in fact MORE money is being given to New York City instead of less -- 47 MILLION DOLLARS more -- suddenly the issue shifts to an being about their share of money.
You clowns can't think, or hate, straight.
"But I guess part of being a lying leftist is not being a slave to consistency, eh?"
"Being a slave to consistency" would mean $47 Million less for the city of New York for homeland security... which 24 hours ago would have been a bad thing! Now you're suggesting less money for New York is a plus because it would be "consistent"? Lol!
You people amaze me... your large capacity to hate forces all logic out the window. I don't think you even realize how idiotic some of these things you write sound.

That's right. It amounts to nothing more than, "Let's get a bunch of things done that should have been paid for all along with the taxes collected (and a bunch of other pet projects for those in favor) and tell 'em it's to stimulate the economy."
If they really want to stimulate the economy (insted of just maintaining at best) then change policies to promote growth and quit threatening more and more taxes and singling out individuals and certain job sectors as evil.
So, whatever.
