The European Riots Can Happen Here: The SEIU Is Already Sponsoring Them

It turns out that restructuring the European lifestyle may be much more difficult than many EU members expected.

ARIS -- Across Western Europe, the "lifestyle superpower," the assumptions and gains of a lifetime are suddenly in doubt. The deficit crisis that threatens the euro has also undermined the sustainability of the European standard of social welfare, built by left-leaning governments since the end of World War II.

Europeans have boasted about their social model, with its generous vacations and early retirements, its national health care systems and extensive welfare benefits, contrasting it with the comparative harshness of American capitalism.

Europeans have benefited from low military spending, protected by NATO and the American nuclear umbrella. They have also translated higher taxes into a cradle-to-grave safety net. "The Europe that protects" is a slogan of the European Union.

But all over Europe governments with big budgets, falling tax revenues and aging populations are experiencing rising deficits, with more bad news ahead.

Restructurings (a term that is a euphemism for changing bad habits into good habits) are always difficult. Sometimes governments take it upon themselves to change owing to internal political pressures; other times it requires something far different, like a war, to bring about change. The lifestyle polemic currently at center stage in the EU crisis looks awfully familiar and there is a readily identifiable suspect right here in the United States that deserves some serious scrutiny.

Public employees now earn on average more than private sector employees in the U S. Their wages are higher, their insurance benefits are superior, their retirement plans are gold plated and they have an uncanny ability to avoid layoffs and unemployment. Mort Zuckerman made the point again in the Wall Street Journal Friday that approximately $250 billion of the $780 billion Stimulus legislation passed in 2009 went to preserve public employee payrolls, benefits and retirement plans. And you ask why there is no economic rebound evident from the stimulus? The riots in Greece, and the anxiety Germans have about bailing out the Greeks, is a perfect picture of what awaits the U S in the next several years as private sector employees (and unemployed) continue to experience in a very personal way the divide between them (the tax payers) and the SEIU protected public employees (the benficiaries of the tax payers).

Democratic policy, especially among its most liberal sponsors, has unapologetically promoted various forms of class warfare for over fifty years. This month's debacle in Europe is a preview of the real class warfare that will occur here. U S political trends and the recent increased violence of the Left shows indications of an evolving conflict, from civil disobedience to what might be called a "hot war" between the private sector and the political class. When even the New York Times begins to take note of the crumbling of big government socialism in Europe then everyone should pay attention. The gig is up. It's only a matter of time before there is actual conflict in the streets here.

But wait, there already is. Please go to the link and watch the videos and view the pics. The SEIU sent four busloads of Washington D C protestors to a Bank of America attorney's home last week, where they stormed his property and had the homeowner's teenage son hiding in a bathroom until they left. Fortune Magazine's Nina Easton lived next door and documented the attack. As one blog commenter noted, there are thousands of towns and cities in flyover country where this sort of assault would not have ended well for the SEIU thugs. The union's leadership knew that, however (they had a District of Columbia police escort) and terrorized a citizen's home safe in the knowledge that no violence would be visited upon them.

We have reached a point in this country when cooler political heads need to take charge before the natural instincts of citizen self protection kick in. This country has been at this precipice before and almost always found a peaceful solution. But that requires real leadership and courage which is sorely lacking in Washington DC today.

I hope Obama is asked about this but if he chooses to not condemn it publicly I must assume he condones this sort of thing. His divisive rhetoric is, in my opinion, becoming very reckless and dangerous and it is naturally leading to incidents just like this one.

It is almost like he wants to provoke a civil war because he seems to be ratcheting up the anger as time goes on as he continues down the path of his reign of error. I think the Republicans need to be much more aggressive about calling attention to these kinds of things because the problem seems to be getting worse by the day. George W. Well Barry did say 'I don't make a move without talking to Andy Stern.'

I wonder if Andy Stern doesn't "make a move" without first talking to Barry.

The news reports state that 'police were present but did nothing for fear of provoking a reaction'. Were they "real" police officers?

I don't know what the East Coast cop call is, but a cop puts out "11-99" on the West Coast, he'll be up to his eyebrows in cops real fast. How does one beat a bully? You stand up to them. About a dozen years ago PETA decided they were going to protest the wasteful practice of fish kill at the Tarpon Rodeo in Grand Isle Louisiana, this is a very popular event drawing ppl from all around the Gulf Coast, about a dozen protesters showed up dressed in fish outfits and blocking the only road onto the island. The police at the event soon called for back-up, not to remove the protesters but to help fish them out of the jetties, they had allready been "removed" from blocking the road. They haven't been back since.

This is where the left is, it is what they do. They have no rational arguments on policy, their whole goal is income transfer to their supporters, so they use intimidation against anyone who opposes them, or whom they declare a targeted villain.

And their target was a Democrat, too - how courageous of them. Warning shots? If I feel threatened, I don't think I'll be firing warning shots.

Mobs threatening violence need to be discouraged immediately. No warning shoots. Mobs don't "think" the way individuals do. They derive strength from each other, and they have a tendency to disregard consequences.

If possible, the best way to deal with a mob is to confront the Alpha male with Mutually Assured Destruction: in the event of violence, the Alpha will be the first person shot. Therefore, it is in the Alpha's best interest to defuse the situation. Legally, there are few situations where you can do that when defending a house: the Alpha is on sidewalk with a megaphone. Instead, the Alpha will send in the pawns.

That means you'll probably be defending your home against a force with far superior numbers from a fairly exposed position. Firing warning shots probably wastes time and ammo. They will only have a few "runners" to try to get position or to take you. If you take them out fast, the rest will pause.

For example, in most five-to-one street fights it rarely stays five-against-one: only two or three are really committed to fighting. The others are there to join in the beat-down. If you take out the key players quickly, plan A falls apart. There is no plan B, and the followers leave.

Al Marshall Responds to Nina Easton By John Vandeventer on May 19, 2010 11:27 PM

Al Marshall is an SEIU member who was part of the group that tried to talk with Bank of America lobbyist Gregory Baer on Sunday. His lost his house to foreclosure. This letter is in response to Nina Easton's article in Fortune magaine.

Dear Ms. Easton,

This week I boarded a plane to come to Washington, D.C. for the first time in my life. I joined thousands of other Americans from across the country who came here to challenge Wall Street CEOs and their lobbyists who continue to profit at the expense of the rest of America.

I bought my home 12 years ago-a fixer upper in Oakland, California. I transformed that rundown house into a home for my children and my 94 year old mother.

Then when Wall Street crashed the economy, my wife lost her job, my hours were cut, and we couldn't afford our mortgage payments. I tried to make arrangements with the bank, but they refused to help. And they took away my home.

I will never forget the day the bank foreclosed on my home-I felt so embarrassed. I felt like I failed my family. It was heartbreaking to watch my children cry as we packed up our lives and moved out of our home.

But then I started sharing my story. And I realized how many other people were in the same situation. People who worked hard to buy their own piece of the American Dream-only to see it taken away because of the reckless policies of Wall Street.

I knew I needed to speak out.

I came to Washington, D.C. because the same banks that foreclosed on my home, the banks that cost my wife her job, are now spending more than $1.3 million a day lobbying against the American people. People like your neighbor, Gregory Baer, are using their insider connections to force Congress to choose Wall Street over the American people.

The banks won't negotiate with us. They just fight us. We went to Gregory Baer's house to share our stories and request that Bank of America and other banks help our families keep our homes. We were left with no other choice.

I could see how angry and upset you were, but I wish that rather than making snap judgments, you actually asked us why we were there. I can only imagine what you wrote today might have been different if you took the time to learn why we would travel thousands of miles to make our voices heard.

Al Marshall
Oakland, California

My view -- If the protesters violated the law they should be prosecuted.

I also think that Nina Easton's affiliation with Fox News is being under-reported -- for obvious reasons. The fear-mongering right looks funny every time they piss their pants in response to over-the-top protests like this - and not reporting Easton is a paid right wing mouthpiece is dishonest.

Protests are a form of street theater. SEIU members act outrageously -- then mouthpieces for the right act outraged, etc.

A background search using the information from the website shows a Jerry Kane, born in Ohio in December of 1964 and most recently associated with addresses mainly in Ohio. The van, which authorities said had Ohio tags, was traced to New Vienna, Ohio, and a church called House of God's Prayer, according to several sources.

That church's address is associated with a deceased white supremacist named Harold R. Redfeairn, who the Associated Press reported in 2003 headed a chapter of the Church of Jesus Christ Christian in New Vienna. That church espoused views of the white-supremacist doctrine of Aryan Nations.

A story published by the Southern Poverty Law Center in Montgomery, Ala., on Redfeairn has the headline, "The Cop-Shooter." The story said that in 1979, Redfeairn shot 22-year-old Dayton, Ohio, police officer Dave Koenig three times after Koenig had stopped him.

Where else do we find Jerry Kane on the web? Why, at Glenn Beck's "9/12 Project" website, of course: Two exceptional nights with Jerry Kane! - successes surrounding Foreclosure & Credit Card Debt along with several interesting technologies! - The 9/12 Project (New York, NY) - Meetup.com. Better to have a safe room and or a concealed exit. Although a flamethrower or CS might disperse them, depending upon the prevailing wind you could get a blowback. If these SEIU thugs want to protest they need to do it in front of the headquarters of the bank or perhaps at a branch of the bank. Going to a person's home and striking fear into a man's family is simply not okay. It reeks of the worst "I know where you live" mentality that is bound to end badly someday. This bank executive is not under any indictment and as far as we know he did nothing wrong. These union goons are doing more to ruin this country that just about anybody but you don't see fed-up conservatives going to the homes where they live do you? Community organizing groups in cooperation with federal, state and local government pressured these banks to make bad loans and our economy is suffering the fallout from this misguided attempt at social engineering. Barack Obama, among many other liberal Democrats, is up to his eyeballs in bearing responsibility for the financial collapse that occurred in 2008 and it makes me sick watching him point the finger of blame at others when the kinds of things he did were at the root cause of the whole disaster.

I could care less about this protestor's sob story - they were still horribly wrong to do what they did. With liberals it is always the personal narrative which they draw upon because they simply don't have anything else. Emotion always trumps common sense and logic. To use this as an excuse to intimidate and scare fellow American citizens disgusts me. In any case, this man's story rings hollow to me because he has bought into the lies fed to him by his liberal masters. Most if not all of these idiots have no idea what they are talking about when they talk about the economic collapse and why it happened - they are fed the talking points and they stick to that erroneous narrative until the bitter end. I feel bad when people lose their homes but home ownership in this country is not and should never be a right - it is something that is earned through hard work and savings. Too many people got into homes over the last decade or two that did neither and when the bills came due they could not afford to pay. It is no more complicated than that really.

I just love how you take the actions of one wacko to paint the entire right, yet you ignore the actions of 500 left wing thugs sent out by Andy Stern with cooperation of the police and quite likely the obama administration.

You pass over this act of intimidation, excuse it and even support it because you are by chance against those they have targeted. Just wait until they have tired of your support and it is you or your group that they decide needs to be scapegoated for whatever ineptitude they need to cover up.

The problem with leftists is that they always need someone to purge. I hope you live long enough to experience it first hand.

Listen to the lefty in complete panic about people who want limited, responsible government; people who want to stop government abuse; and people who want to be left alone.

What a dire threat that is to statist utopian dreams of the Leftist.

--------

As for the census, the only information that the Congress is authorized to gather under Article I is the number of persons. Congress does not have the authority to require citizens to divulge their age, sex, race, relationship to one another, or any information other than the actual count. Everything else is an invasion of privacy. [I remember when Democrats supported privacy rights.]

Consider Interstate Commerce Commission v. Brimson, 154 U.S. 447, 479 (May 26, 1894), a decision that still stands today:

Neither branch of the legislative department [i.e. House of Representatives or Senate], still less any merely administrative body [e.g. Bureau of the Census], established by Congress, possesses, or can be invested with, a general power of making inquiry into the private affairs of the citizen. Kilbourn v. Thompson, 103 U.S. 168, 190. We said in Boyd v. U.S., 116 U.S. 616, 630, 6 Sup. Ct. 524, - and it cannot be too often repeated, - that the principles that embody the essence of constitutional liberty and security forbid all invasions on the part of government and it's employees of the sanctity of a man's home and the privacies of his life. As said by Mr. Justice Field in Re Pacific Ry. Commission, 32 Fed. 241, 250, "of all the rights of the citizen, few are of greater importance or more essential to his peace and happiness than the right of personal security, and that involves, not merely protection of his person from assault, but exemption of his private affairs, books, and papers from inspection and scrutiny of others. Without the enjoyment of this right, all others would lose their value."

Two suspects accus... (Below threshold)
Lee Ward:
Two suspects accused of gunning down Arkansas police officers this week may have ties to extremist anti-government groups, two civil rights organizations say.

Jerry R. Kane, 45, and his 16-year-old son Joseph Kane fatally shot two police officers and wounded two others during a wild shootout Thursday, according to Arkansas state police.

The father and son were shot and killed during the battle on the streets of West Memphis, Arkansas.

The Anti-Defamation League said the two suspects belonged to "an extreme right-wing movement that believes that virtually all existing government in the United States is illegitimate and which seeks to restore an idealized, minimalist government that never actually existed."

The Southern Poverty Law Center, a nonprofit civil rights organization, also said the two member are part of the "sovereign citizen" movement.

"If Jerry Kane is proven responsible for these tragic murders, it would be a new page in the same old book for the sovereign citizens, who have assaulted or killed a number of law enforcement officials in the past 20 years, especially during traffic stops," the ADL said in a statement.

Some fringe wackos are a little harder to spot - these guys aren't.

Initial reports suggested the van carried drug dealers because I-40 is a well-traveled corridor for drug runners. That was followed by reports the van was registered to a church in New Vienna, Ohio, a place called House of God's Prayer, which was once home to a white supremacy movement.

While ties to the church are still being investigated, CBS affiliate WREG has found links to something a bit less familiar, that this man and his son may have had ties to a fringe sovereignty movement. Jerry Kane and his son apparently traveled the country giving seminars with Jerry in a revivalist preacher-style white suit, offering to help people who were having trouble paying their mortgage.

and

According to ADL, Kane's specialty was an arcane sovereign citizen theory called "Redemption," which provides formulas that claim to be able to extricate people from almost any sort of trouble, from financial debts to traffic tickets. From 2003-2006, a popular "Redemption" tactic was to assert the ability to eliminate people's mortgages. The tactic picked up again in the wake of the recent housing crisis; Kane's seminars emphasized this mortgage angle.

Both the sovereign citizen and militia movement have been growing in number and activity in the past two years. In April 2010, ADL warned about the growth of right-wing, anti-government extremist movements and the possibility of violent confrontations with authorities by such groups and individuals.

GarandFan:

In other news, a blow was struck against "right-wing extremism" today when a 14 year old was suspended for one day.

The parents of a high school student from Rockland County are demanding answers after their ninth grader was suspended for wearing rosary beads to school. He was suspended even though the school doesn't even have a policy banning them. So did the principal go too far? Jason Laguna is a former altar boy and proud Catholic. He got his rosary beads as a gift, thinks they look cool and sometimes wears them under his shirt at school. But last Friday, right before dismissal, he pulled them out on his way out. He was given a one-day suspension from Fieldstone Secondary School. His mother calls the punishment extreme, considering the 14-year-old is a member of student government and, according to his last report card, "is a pleasure to have in class." Laguna says she was told the school has an unwritten policy regarding beads because they could be used to show gang affiliation. The principal claims it was insubordination, saying Laguna's actions, "endangered the safety, health, morals or welfare of himself or others." Jason was supposed to stay home Friday, but late Thursday the district superintendent put that on hold pending further investigation. It may not be divine intervention, but his mother has contacted the American Civil Liberties Union as she continues to fight the suspension.

So far the ACLU has not responded. Wonder why? Now if this had been someone of the Hindu faith and the principal had told him to "wash that gang mark off your forehead", the ACLU lawsuit would already have been filed.

30 years as a cop and that's a new one for me. "Gang members" using rosary beads. Must have been that "Holy Ghost" group, or just maybe "The Trinity" gang. Yeah, that's it.
