Horrors... the UN is involved in exaggerating a crisis

Via XtnYoda, this is only surprising to people who continue to see the UN as viable and meaningful rather than alarmist and corrupt:

European criticism of the World Health Organization's handling of the H1N1 pandemic intensified Friday with the release of two reports that accused the agency of exaggerating the threat posed by the virus and failing to disclose possible influence by the pharmaceutical industry on its recommendations for how countries should respond.

The WHO's response caused widespread, unnecessary fear and prompted countries around the world to waste millions of dollars, according to one report. At the same time, the Geneva-based arm of the United Nations relied on advice from experts with ties to drug makers in developing the guidelines it used to encourage countries to stockpile millions of doses of antiviral medications, according to the second report.

The reports outlined the drumbeat of criticism that has arisen, primarily in Europe, of how the world's leading health organization responded to the first influenza pandemic in more than four decades.

"For WHO, its credibility has been badly damaged," wrote Fiona Godlee, the editor of the BMJ, a prominent British medical journal, that published one of the reports. "WHO must act now to restore its credibility."

Actually, I'd rather the rest of us act now and disband the UN and send the thugs, dictators, miscreants and antisemites who make up a large part of that body back to their respective backward countries.

Just drop out of the UN, now.

I'd also kick all of them out of the country, with 24 hours notice just as a courtesy.

If Holder ever got off his dead ass and investigated the UN, he'd probably end up with a truck-load of RICO violations. When you talk of 'organized crime' today, first thing I think is UN!

I have advocating just that for the last 30 years. People are finally wising up to what a corrupt organization the Unholy Nations really is. We (The United States) should get out now and force those terrorist loving leftists out of the US. Oh yeah, When the dictators and the other undesirables leave, make them pay the unpaid parking tickets that they have accumulated over the years. Give New York City a needed shot in the arm.

The UN outlived any possible usefulness to the world when the Soviet Empire collapse - or more precisely when the USA under Nixon began engaging USSR with direct diplomacy. There was simply nothing to be accomplished after that.

WHO was damned either way in this case. If vaccine hadn't been stockpiled and the feared pandemic did happen, they'd be blamed anyway for not taking the needed precaution.

The Utopians of the world don't want to pay for the jack or spare tire, because they believe they should never get a flat.

Unfortunately, the 'Boy who cried "Wolf!"' is well know, but not necessarily applicable in this case. There will, eventually, be something that's contagious, not noticeable when transmittable, and lethal to 10% or more of the population.

I'd rather see them err on the side of caution and NOT have a catastrophic epidemic, than the other way around. I don't begrudge them the funding they get - but the rest of the UN can go piss up a rope. They've turned out to not be what was hoped for...
