Scott Victory in SC Exemplifies Ascendency of Conservative Minority Candidates

Conservative Tim Scott won the Republican nomination for the 1st Congressional District in South Carolina Tuesday night. A poetic irony of his victory was that he resoundingly defeated Paul Thurmond, son of the late Strom Thurmond who began his political career running on a segregationist platform. Facing a weak Democrat opponent in Ben Frasier this November, Scott is a virtual certainty to become the first black Republican in Congress since J.C. Watts was elected in 2003.

Perhaps even more important in this particular primary was the fact that yet again the more conservative candidate defeated the GOP-supported moderate. Scott, who campaigned on issues of government spending transparency, lower taxation and a strong pro-life position swamped Thurmond by an almost 2-to-1 margin. Scott also voiced strong support for Israel during the flotilla incident earlier this month.

Electoral victories such as this one continue to smash the malicious liberal template that opposition to Obama is rooted in race. Candidates like Tim Scott are winning against establishment candidates because of principled conservatism and South Carolinian voters demonstrated that race is not a factor. Whether or not the GOP takes back a majority in Congress this November, the Republicans that go to Washington next year will likely be a much different group that we see there today.

And when he wins, will he be denied membership in the Congressional Black Caucus? If he is and the Repubs take the House, (God willing) should the House force the renaming of the CBC as the Congressional Black Democratic Caucus. Should Scott then form the Congressional Black Republican Caucus?

Tim Scott proved himself a true conservative for years and years in local government, he was well known to the people of SC-01 because it is all within the Charleston media market. He'll do a fine job in DC. The guy's only defect is he advocates the "fair tax" nonsense, but I'm sure someone will teach him how to use a calculator when he gets to DC and that will become a whimsical memory.

Speaking of memory, why is it that all people ever want to say about Strom Thurmond is that he was once a segregationist? In the '40s and early '50s, there just weren't any NON-segregationists in public office in South Carolina or any other deep southern state - but that was more than half a century ago. Pull up your poodle skirts and move into the future, folks!

For his entire career in the US Senate, Thurmond employed more "minorities" [blacks] on his staff than any other Southern Senator of either party. No Democrat ever had more blacks on his staff for any Congress than Thurmond. Nobody wants to remember that, though - wonder why?

He also fathered a child out of wedlock as a young man - with his family's black cook's daughter. This was kept quiet, but he supported the girl her whole life and was able to visit with her quietly, and remembered her in his will. They don't want you to know about that, either. Wonder why?

Hahahahaha, I'd love to be a fly on the wall in the clubhouse in November when Barry learns that being a lame duck is truly a humiliating lonely reality.

In NC, Bill Randall a conservative African american won his run off in NC 13th. He will face Dem Brad Miller. Randall created a stir last week with comments that indicated a conspiracy between the White House and BP causing the oil leak. He later back off the statements saying it was out of context.
