NASA's "foremost" mission under Obama revealed

Back to the moon?  No.

On to Mars?  No.

Continue America's exceptionalism in space?  No.

Buck up the self-esteem of Muslims globally?  Yes.

I kid you not:

In a far-reaching restatement of goals for the nation's space agency, NASA administrator Charles Bolden says President Obama has ordered him to pursue three new objectives: to "re-inspire children" to study science and math, to "expand our international relationships," and to "reach out to the Muslim world."  Of those three goals, Bolden said in a recent interview with al-Jazeera, the mission to reach out to Muslims is "perhaps foremost," because it will help Islamic nations "feel good" about their scientific accomplishments.

In the same interview, Bolden also said the United States, which first sent men to the moon in 1969, is no longer capable of reaching beyond low earth orbit without help from other nations.

Bolden made the statements during a recent trip to the Middle East.  He told al-Jazeera that in the wake of the president's speech in Cairo last year, the American space agency is now pursuing "a new beginning of the relationship between the United States and the Muslim world."  Then:

When I became the NASA Administrator -- before I became the NASA Administrator -- [Obama] charged me with three things: One was he wanted me to help re-inspire children to want to get into science and math, he wanted me to expand our international relationships, and third, and perhaps foremost, he wanted me to find a way to reach out to the Muslim world and engage much more with dominantly Muslim nations to help them feel good about their historic contribution to science, math, and engineering.

Later in the interview, Bolden discussed NASA's goal of greater international cooperation in space exploration.  He said the United States, more than 40 years after the first moon mission, cannot reach beyond earth's orbit today without assistance from abroad:

In his message in Cairo, [Obama] talked about expanding our international outreach, expanding our international involvement.  We're not going to go anywhere beyond low earth orbit as a single entity.  The United States can't do it, China can't do it -- no single nation is going to go to a place like Mars alone.

Bolden's trip included a June 15 speech at the American University in Cairo.  In that speech, he said in the past NASA worked mostly with countries that are capable of space exploration.  But that, too, has changed in light of Obama's Cairo initiative.  "He asked NASA to change...by reaching out to 'non-traditional' partners and strengthening our cooperation in the Middle East, North Africa, Southeast Asia and in particular in Muslim-majority nations," Bolden said.  "NASA has embraced this charge."

You're not going to hear much about this... at least initially... from your 'normal' sources for news.  The outrageousness of this goes well beyond what normally is outrageous for Obama and so the MSM will stay away from it.

But you can ensure that this news gets out.  You can ensure that the American people understand what their space exploration dollars are being spent on.  You can do your part to perhaps have this reversed in some way.

Or you, by your silence and inaction, can affirm the direction Obama has decided to take NASA.

Your choice.

Contact your Senators.

Contact your Representative.

Or sit on your ass and by extension give assent to this idiocy.  It's your call.

I guess flying hijacked airliners into buildings wasn't enough. Now they want to take the soon-to-be-mothballed shuttle fleet (fill 'em with innocents, of course) and fly them into the remaining skyscrapers?

Six year old kids have a greater sense of curiosity, creativity and persistence than the clowns presently running NASA. It has come to the point where an American grade school class stands a better chance of putting a man back on the moon than NASA. Screw the Islamic nations. Let them spend the funds they're using to support terrorism for their own space program. I can't believe what I am witnessing from this administration anymore.

Typical Obama. Actual space exploration didn't even make his TOP THREE priorities for NASA.

This despot views the entire federal government as his piggy bank to distribute as he wishes without regard to law.

IIRC obama doesn't want NASA spending its money on space exploration, but has directed them to focus more of their efforts on global warming. So rather than advance science that can benefit our nation it will be advancing a political agenda designed to destroy our economy.

What's not for the muslim world to like. They want to turn back the clock to the 7th century and so does barry.

I understand that as part of this NASA origninally planned to quadruple spending on its balloon base in East Texas. That is until someone told them the name of the town that the base was in is pronounced Pal-es-TEEN, not PAL-eh-stine, that most of the folks that live there are Bible-Belt Christianists, not Bible-Land Muslims, and that the place is in Texas, not the Middle East, despite the name of the city.

Thanks Rick for this important article. I was sickened when at work (space industry) we got the 3 most important goals regarding the space industry yesterday from a news article and from Mr Bolden and the man that claims to represent the citizens of the US.
