Sounds like a great scheme for the left. Fewer jobs means more dependency on government while greater government control of private industry is an unalloyed good in itself.

Lubchenco wants to go beyond the IFQ. Every body of water has IFQ's. The AuSable River where my husband and I own a fly shop has IFQ's where fisherman can only keep trout that are a certain length or longer and only so many of each. Most fishermen are catch and release only fishermen anyway because they enjoy the act of fishing for reasons that go beyond sustenance.

Rather, Lubchenco wants to limit the number of fishermen who have access to the water. Those fishermen who are allowed to fish will be licensed by the federal government. As she said, she wants to limit the number of vessels on the water.

This not only eliminates the individual right to make a living as a fisherman in New England, but it will drive up the price of New England seafood by decreasing supply while demand remains the same. This will encourage American restaurateurs, grocery stores and the like to purchase their seafood from foreign sources.

I know of several fishermen from SE MA who will no longer vote Democrat. Yet another group of people alienated by this administration. If they keep this up, the only people voting for them will be raving Marxist lunatics. Unless they manage to annoy them too.

Yes it wouldn't be the first time. They did the same thing with Halibut in Alaska a long time ago. The biggest point made in favor of them is safety. The seasons are usually longer and you have a specific amount you can catch. It is not anywhere near as hectic although you still want to catch your quota quickly to cut down on expenses.

The problem is it creates a Government made monopoly. Once establish it is very hard to get into the business either as a boat owner or as a crewman. The licenses usually skyrocket and many can't get one until their dad or someone they know gets tired and hand it down, etc. It also takes the fun of the competition and the much of the gamble out of it. In the end you get a great deal fewer people making a boatload of money which happens in monopolies. Sooner or later you run into other strong-arm tactics that is typical of monopolies.

Looks as if it will be a herculean chore to remove or reverse all these idiocies in only 2 years.

More likely to consume a decade, imho.

Zaugg #1---Why wait until he's out of office to bring charges? The new republican congress can bring charges upon their taking control in January. One caveat, whatever charges are brought must be iron clad provable and not subject to esoteric judgment!

Ah, but here's the beauty: That one guy will, through the taxes leveraged on "the rich" pay more of that million into government coffers than those 10 would combined.
