Eugene Robinson dismisses voters as spoiled brats

Eugene Robinson, under the guise of nonpartisan criticism, says the anger voters feel toward Democrats is nothing more than more than a childish temper tantrum. It's not that they are reacting rationally and predictably to the Democrats' arrogance and elitism. No, according to Eugene Robinson, the only possible reason is the voters' out-of-control emotions.

The American people are angry because President Obama presented himself as a centrist during the campaign, but upon taking office almost immediately he started governing as a radical leftist. They are angry because Obama pushed and Democrats in Congress passed a nearly one trillion dollar stimulus package because they said it was necessary to keep unemployment below 8 percent; it sent the unemployment rate soaring to nearly 10 percent . Voters are angry because those same Democrats blatantly ignored them and passed ObamaCare when they made it crystal clear they didn't want it. None of this is on Robinson's radar screen; instead, he chalks up voters' anger to irrationality. The Democrats and the liberals who support them dismiss the voters again at their own peril.

Update: For those who say Robinson never called the American voters spoiled brats, please read his op-ed about which he was speaking on Morning Joe, entitled "The Spoiled-brat American electorate." Allahpundit's post was the source for this one, which was why I linked to him and not to Robinson directly. Next time I will include a link to an original source since some commenters had difficulty finding it at Allahpundit's post.

It's also worth mentioning that we never hear words like "anger" and "temper tantrum" when the vote swings from conservative to liberal. Where was all the analysis of voter "anger" and "temper tantrums" when Democrats took Congress in 2006, or when Obama took the White House in 2008?

Maybe our resident trolls can explain this interesting bias.

So the denial of the left enters it's second phase. First was the "Our socialist ideology would have worked, but the implementation wasn't sufficiently far left". Now we get the, "Our socialist ideology would have worked, but we had to dilute it because of the ignorant masses."

Never is it that the ideology is a failure. Never is it that the masses might actually know what they want and what is good for them better than the ivory tower elitists.

Are you kidding with that? Obama campaigned FAR more left than he's governing. That's the reason why the left is upset with him! He campaigned on closing Gitmo, withdrawing troops quickly, healthcare for all, Wall St. reform, etc. Every one of those has been delayed or weakened from what Obama the candidate promised. Obama the president has been infuriating the left by trying to appease liberal Republicans and conservative Democrats. Say what you will about his efforts or the results, but it's deceptive fantasy to claim he's governing lefter than he campaigned.

Right now, it seems that there is a campaign against the productive. Libs only care about and promise benefits to the unproductive taken from the productive. This country is filled with people who have tried to do the right thing their whole lives and they are seeing their hard work destroyed by libs pursuing destructive policies.

The value of people's homes is being leeched away as the liberal politician play games with the eonomy. The only parties benefitting from the bailouts are democratice special interests. Savings accumulated over twenty five years at the cost of much personal sacrifice have evaporated. The value of 401k's have been decimated.

And then the clowns in power call productive people names. Most people in this country do not live theirs according to lib values. They work, marry, try to raise their kids, try to provide for their wives and they are mocked derided and see the fruits of labor stolen to benfit the politicians and the unproductive. Not saying that those who can't help themselves should not be helped, but we reward those who won't help themselves. Those who sacrifice and save are legitimately angry at seeing those savings destroyed and their sacrifice derided.

I guess I have missed it, but I don't see much said about losses suffered by the normal people of this country.

Well said, mark.
That's about the best concise description of the Tea Party movement in particular and tens of millions of normal people in general.

For a long time most people have been reluctant to say someone or something is normal or not normal. They were afraid of being called bigoted or closed-minded or judgemental.
I think now things are getting so far out of whack that more and more people are speaking up for normalcy and it resonates with millions of Americans.
