Let me guess; some local politician has a body and fender shop nearby, specializing in trucks.

Sheesh! Living under a Democratic regime has turned you soft . . . some idiots refuse to read the doggone sign, and suddenly it's the government's job to LOWER the roadway? Feh!
Whatever happened to being responsible, paying attention, and if your vehicle won't clear the underpass - finding another route?
We've been turned into a nation of whiners, wimps, and idiots - which helps explain how we got Obama and Pelosi in power in the first place. Maybe the truck-wreckers need a bailout?

We used to have a low bridge like this in my town. Then someone had the great idea to locate a new TA truckstop about a mile up the road. After the railroad bridge got clobbered about a dozen times, they finally raised the bridge by about 2 feet. Then the trains stopped running and now it is used as a scenic bikeway/footpath.

Ryder Truck. To state the obvious, probably someone who had very limited experience driving a truck.

We had a better one in Lansing MI on Pennsylvania Avenue.

There's a much cheaper and simpler solution than lowering the roadway.
Set up an arch on the approach to the trestle with chains hanging down to 11 feet 6 inches.
Physical contact accompanied by loud noises are more likely to get the driver's attention.

It could be that the existing roadbed is only a few inches above the storm sewers. Lowering said road would then lead to a flooded underpass after a light rain. Which would then force the government to install new storm drain lines at a greater depth or install a lift station to pump the runoff uphill.

Wow, some of those trucks were peeled open like a can of sardines. That's gotta be a sucky feeling the moment they heard the awful crunch.

The railroad should raise their trestle. This is no longer the 1880s.
