Let me pose a hypothetical question to you...
Would you, today, on the ninth anniversary of 9/11 fly on one of the hijacked routes?
You can see my answer below.
It never even really occurred to me when I booked my flight from Washington Dulles to Los Angeles International for early Saturday morning that I was: a) flying on 9/11, b) flying one of the highjacked routes, or c) traveling nearly the exact same path at the exact same times as five hijackers arrived at Dulles International Airport that Tuesday nine years ago.
I'm not really sure what to make of the fact that at no time did anyone I encounter today mentioned or even notice this. In fact it didn't really occur to me until I woke up this morning. Perusing through the Wikipedia entry on American Airlines Flight 77 I was struck by the times noted. Those were the times I was going through security and my departure gate was a stone's through from theirs. I rode the same People Mover tram to the D gates which are not served by the new Dulles rail system.
I'm writing this in Los Angeles, aware of the uniqueness and significance of my chosen travel plans, but hopeful that I had traveling companions who would remember the lessons of United Flight 93 (and others afterwards), and who would have, like me, made the ultimate sacrifice if the situation had warranted.
For me that's been my standard on every flight I've taken since 9/11. So in that respect it was just another day; just another flight.

In October 2001 my wife and I went ahead with our pre-9/11 plans for a transcontinental flight to visit my family in California. I mention it here:
In 2010 I refuse to consider flying on an airline. TSA and J-Nap have made it simply unthinkable to me.

It's not just us. NO WHERE since 9/11 has an airliner been successfully hijacked. Not because of the airline crew, but because of the PASSENGERS.

Sure, I'd fly one of those routes--any old time.
And the first SOB that waved a box cutter at me would eat the thing.

On the first day when flights were resumed after 9/11 I had to fly from S.F. to Houston.
I was flying coach.
As I got on the plane the flight attendant looked me up and down. I'm 6'1", 195 lbs., in good physical shape, and routinely wear a Marine Corps ballcap (and was then).
After I sat down the flight attendant came back and asked me I would like to sit in First Class...I said sure. When I got up I noticed that they were busy FILLING First Class with guys about my size and build.
This happened to me several other times over the next few months.
When I fly these days I look at EVERYONE on the plane as I board (having already looked at them while in the boarding area). And I am not the only one doing so. We're all Flight 93 now.

I'd fly that route without or any flight without any misgivings. We as a country have changed in the way we treat hijackings now. In the old days, it was usually just an inconvenience, like going to Havana instead of Miami. Now it is being hijacked to your death and passengers will not stand by idly by and let that happen.

Say Hello to Asseri ...
The diplomat, Ali Ahmad Asseri, the first secretary of the Saudi consulate in Los Angeles, has informed U.S. Department of Homeland Security officials that Saudi officials have refused to renew his diplomatic passport and effectively terminated his job after discovering he was gay and was close friends with a Jewish woman.
In a recent letter that he posted on a Saudi website, Asseri angrily criticized his country's "backwardness" as well as the role of "militant imams" in Saudi society who have "defaced the tolerance of Islam." Perhaps most provocatively of all, he has threatened to expose what he describes as politically embarrassing information about members of the Saudi royal family living in luxury in the U.S.

Each September 11th anniversary is filled with rage and each year the rage grows as we have done NOTHING to rebuild the towers.
We have a victory mosque ready to be build on the ashes on Ground Zero.
We have a muslim crescent of embrace victory memorial being built with tax payer money in PA.
WTF is going on. muslims (I refuse to capitalize islam or muslim) around the world are laughing at the impotent USA and it's pathetic leadership in congrASS in the white house.
It's downright embarrassing and the rage grows each year.

There could never have been a successful series of hijacks and mass murders: -- even allowing that the Islamanazis were pretty much assured success by the presence of the "wall" created by the the execrable Jamie Gorelicker to insulate the recidivist, treasonous, lying, looting, thieving, mass-murdering, impeached, disbarred, co-serial-rapist Billy-Bubbah Blythe Gang from the rapidly closing-in CIA/FBI teams: -- had the passengers and crews not been criminally denied their Second Amendment rights.

TexBob: "Each September 11th anniversary is filled with rage and each year the rage grows as we have done NOTHING to rebuild the towers."
but...but...TexBob, the people building at Ground Zero are now PROUDLY pointing at the 30-story structure they built there. NINE years...and a 30-story building is what they have to show for it.
The claim they can now add roughly a Story a week!!! Well gee whiz...during the Great Depression Americans built the Empire State Building in ONE YEAR by hand!!
We have vastly better technology today...but vastly LESS determination and GUTS! Considering the Bozo in the White House now I miss George Bush terribly. But Bush missed a grand opportunity for ALL America by not saying:
"We are going to re-build the same buildings on the same footprints...except one Story HIGHER. And we're going to do it within 2 years. Everybody who doesn't like it can sit down and STFU!! Amen."

Yes, I think I will, if it is necessary. But I would be more cautious and observant. I wouldn't want to be on a hijacked plane. 9/11 should always remind us to be conscious of where we are and whom we are with.
