Deacon Greg brings us to a song sung by Tom Jones carrying the question I ask more frequently as I approach my senior years, one underscoring my need for a Savior:
The lyrics follow:
What Good Am I
What good am I - if I'm like all the rest
If I just turn away - when I see how you're dressed
If I shut myself off - so I can't hear you cry
What good am I?
What good am I - if I know and don't do
If I see and don't say - if I look straight through you
If I turn a deaf ear - to the thundering sky
What good am I?
What good am I - while you softly weep
And I hear in my head - what you say in your sleep
And I freeze in the moment - like the rest who don't try
What good am I?
What good am I?
What good am I then - to others and me
If I've had every chance - and yet still fail to see
With my hands tied must I - not wonder within
Who tied them and why - and where must I have been?
What good am I if I say foolish things
And I laugh in the face - of what sorrow brings
And I just turn my back - while you silently die
What good am I?
What good am I?
What good am I?

Pretty gutsy for an entertainer like Tom Jones to sing this song with just a three piece band for back up. I've always admired the power and force of his voice even if I didn't care for his stage persona. He has always been extremely versatile. I remember when he had his show in the early 70's. He sang with CSN&Y because David Crosby was too stoned to sing "Long Time Gone" and blew them away. And,I was a big CSN&Y fan. In case your interested. Stills, Young and Furay are touring as the "Buffalo Springfield" again. Way cool!

"I ask more frequently as I approach my senior years...."
Just ask your kids and grandkids.

Thank you, Rick, for sharing these thoughtful lyrics.
I find questions like these to be so profound that many people keep themselves so busy with the unimportant things of life (shopping, sports, movies, tv) that they never take the time to contemplate the questions, let alone truly search for answers.
