Jumping on Jay

God knows that jumping on Jay is perilous but what the heck... here I go.

With all due respect Jayster, I think your Fishing for Fatwas piece is over the top.

I believe I've been clear about the fact I don't think highly of Islam... at least I'd hope it's been clear... but I think your post hinders rather than helps make the case against this twisted and deviant ideology.

It's like talking about Obama's ears rather than his ideas... Michelle's butt rather than her anger toward America... Pelosi's plastic-ness rather than her policies. In fact, it's more like the 'artist' dropping a crucifix into a jar of urine, or the dude painting homoerotic paintings depicting Christ as a gay guy. It's un-necessary and crosses a line we're better off not crossing.

I'm thinking if you have a bone to pick with a religion or a mindset, then pick away but do so with words, substantive words that attack the idea and persuade others to see the wisdom of your point of view.

When you do that which you've chosen to do, you're likely to get a chuckle or two and certainly some attention but in the end, have you advanced the cause, have you undermined the opponent's positions? I'm thinking not. But maybe that's not the intention. Not sure.

Islam needs to be faced down intellectually and substantively. You've done that facing down in the past.

This one ain't doing it for me.

Whats wrong with Obamas ears? Thats low. I would never compare Barrys anatomical features like his ears to yoda or something.

I dont know that one can intellectually persuade someone who comes from a position of an emotional need to control by force what they cannot show by deeds.

Except that the artist dropping a crucifix into a jar of urine, or the dude painting homoerotic paintings depicting Christ as a gay guy, suffer only eye rolls instead of death threats. In other words, those works are devoid of any significance.

Meanwhile, defacing a Koran is a quick way to get you some very deadly attention. As such, those acts have very weighty significance. They show that you will not be cowed by a murderous ideology. They show that you will resist, and that you will do so proudly and openly. Your very life becomes a symbol of their weakness and bankruptcy.

So, no. Until Islam ceases trying to subjugate others, disrespecting a Koran will remain lightyears apart from disrespecting a Bible or Crucifix.

And I thought Shawn had a fatwa against JT. Now RIck too.

I couldn't care less about bacon and Korans. I think wrapping it in a thin-sliced Bavarian Ham, or covered in chili cheese dogs, or maybe pork chops dripping in a nice bourbon sauce, now THAT would be art (and a waste of good food).

This is just a political statement. Sure its geeky. Its meant to be. What else would you expect from an ex-drunken gnome commie submariner?

>>> Yes it does. It also needs to be faced down by mockery and outright disrespect. Because that's what every other religion in the world is subject to from others at times. And the muslims gotta learn to grow a thick skin.

So eff Islam. Muhammad was a child molestor.

Deal with it Muslims.

Rick, I agree with you with reservations.

Ridicule has its place, too. I am a Christian, but I can see humor in much of my religion.

It is important to not bend ourselves or our (western cultural) rules to Islam's rules. (creeping Sharia). Just as this applies to the serious disagreements, it should also apply to the silly issues like Jay Tea's photographs. If it is ok (even if incredibly offensive) to tolerate the crucifix in urine, so to it is ok to push the envelope with cartoons of Mohammed and the bacon covered Koran.

I appreciate any blog which provides an open comment forum and provocative topics.

The problem is that the topics here miss where the real action is, in the financial and monetary collapse.

Of course the wars contribute to the insolvency of the USA, but ranting about Muslims every day while we pump and print dollars to send to the Saudis for oil seems to be a sign of delusion.

The banks, the dollar are teetering on the edge, and Wizbangers only see Muslims as the enemy.

When you're starving and freezing in a couple of years, it's not going to be because of the Muslims.

galoob predicts we will be "starving and freezing in a couple of years," so he obviously believes Obama's plan will continue to work.

Ah, Rick, Rick, Rick . . . You can't beat Jay Tea. It's like sending a bill to Crime, man - everybody knows that Crime doesn't pay!

Even when he really blows it - I recall one particular venture into satire which exploded in his face not so long ago - he comes away unscathed. Perhaps it is his Pillsbury Doughboy looks (and attire). Perhaps it is the ominously soft cadence of stuffed duck footsteps behind his critics on dark and deserted streets. Perhaps it is Destiny.

As far as Jay's art I think we owe our muslims friends opportunities to show they are moderate and understand the nature of our country. This is an opportunity for them to demonstrate their displeasure in more acceptable ways.

WildWillie:

Rick, I think JT is proving what he posted. The religion of peace and tolerance is anything but. Christians were very angry with the piss Christ, but we did not put out a bounty on the head of the artist. We just protested. A book, no matter what it is, is only paper and ink. If a faith wants to kill people for putting bacon on paper and ink, then their faith is in question. JT did it with humor. I think you need to ease up a bit on your fear. ww

galoob are you kidding look at the damage Obama and the democrat controled congress has done is such a short time. Of course the idiots can have an effect and damn significant one if the experience the Obama is any indication. In case you haven't noticed there are more than a few people around the country that have caught on to the game. Light is a very good disinfectant as many republicans discovered during this primary cycle and a ton of democrats are about to find out in Nov.
